  • People Pixel Portraits

Oh hai, Audrey...I mean, all the people dressed in red and black to create the coolest-EVER picture of Audrey.

Artist Craig Alan, a 41-year-old New Orleans transplant from California, studied art and theater while in college and has become known throughout the States for his displays of unique visual art. Much of his art has its roots in street portraiture and the human form, evidenced by the incredible "pixelated people" above and blow. Dressed head to toe in either all black or all red, the people are stragetically placed into position so as to create a famous likeness.

    Pretty sweet, huh?

Anybody else secretly want to gather up all your friends now and try to make pixel picturess?

  • Amazing Bonsai Treehouse Sculptures by Takanori Aiba

  • In Your Face: Watercolor Artist Marion Bolognesi

Watch out art class, there's a new pastel in town. Marion Bolognesi, an illustrative artist in New York city, blends portraiture with rainbow paints and some serious soul-searching to create the incredible artwork you see below. Her trademark "tears" or drips of paint effect a definite minor chord throughout her work, while the intense clarity of the eyes is unshakeably unnerving.

In the end, though, the combination of sadness and beauty creates works that are so personal and raw, you can't help but be entranced.

Want to see more of Marion's work? Check out her Facebook page or head over to her site, where you can view her collaborations with other artists, read her blog, or even purchase a surfboard like the one she's holding below!

  • Jerry Wayne Downs: Life After Disney

What happens when you quit your day job after 10 years as an animator for Disney? Jerry Wayne Downs worked on classics like Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins, The Sword in the Stone, and The Jungle Book before leaving it behind to focus on his painting. I'm sure his whimsical work would put a big smile on ol' Walt's face.

  • Louis Vuitton's (Wo)Man Made Menagerie

Pets in your purse: out. Pets made out of purses, wait.... what?!

Billie Achilleos, "versatile artist & maker of things" (as stated on her blog), was commissioned by Louis Vuitton to create these adorable little critters out of their designer purses, wallets, and accessories to celebrate the fashion house's 100 year anniversary. The collection, named Maroquinaris Zoologicae, is set to kick off a world tour this year, so be on the lookout for a flock of purse birds cruising by your window.

  • Sticker Madness: The Obliteration Room

    Nope, it's not paint.
    They're stickers.
And this is what the room looked like before:

Installed for the Queensland Art Gallery, this incredible exhibit, known as The Obliteration Room was created by Japanese artist  Yayoi Kusama for her Look Now, See Forever exhibition that runs through March. Beginning with a completely white room, Kusama invited children (and kids at heart!) to help "decorate" the space with colorful circle stickers for a period of two weeks.

Born in 1929 in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, this incredible 82-year-old Japanese artist is known world-wide for her conceptual art based largely on themes of repetition, pattern, and accumulation. She also holds the female world record for highest selling price for artwork at 5.1 million dollars.

As you can see from the pictures above, her artwork is often very tangible and necessarily autobiographical, and the fact that others help to create it is a very interesting note on the nature of art itself. Plus, it just looks like fun. I mean, who doesn't like stickers?!!
