Who wouldn't want to be a bondage queen in a priceless dress? Not sure I would even if I could afford it, but it's an interesting thought.
Fall 2011 has not yielded the best of collections from many designers and I'd go as far as saying that some of the shows bored me, not to death, but pretty close. However, Sarah Burton for Alexander McQuen (Alexander McQueen's replacement) has kept his legacy alive quite easily, despite what the skeptics have said.
The impossible task of replacing McQueen has been overcome by Burton's steady and assuring feminine influence to the brand. And although this collection did not WOW me away, it did reassure me that McQueen's legacy is not even close to dying.

To say that the dress above was intricate would be an understatement when used to describe the layers of lavender chiffon used.

Here, the pieces of the bodice and on the shoes recall the puzzling way that mosaic pieces fit together. This also reminds me of Spain in the summer time! Or is that a stretch?

I have to admit I don't think mideaval times could get more chic than this.

What do you think of Sarah Burton's work as Alexander McQueen's replacement?

Since McQueen's death I was apprehensive about what was to come.
However, for the Spring 2011, collection Sarah Burton (his successor) has taken the house on a journey through feminism that was astoundingly beautiful and left me just as breathless as McQueen's previous collections.
The craftsmanship was not left by the wayside but perhaps enhanced.
A dress covered in butterflies and the shoes made out of leaf shaped pieces as if the models were actually walking through a leafy wonderland with butterflies landing on their toes!!

Are you as breathless as I was when I first scrolled through these pieces?

"There were times today at Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig's Marchesa presentation when you couldn't breathe......it was the dresses—literally breathtaking"-Meenal Mistry for Style.com
For the past few years Marchesa has been gradually and elegantly gaining fame in the world of fashion. However beautiful and loved they have been every other season, they have finally done "THAT" collection. It is "THAT" collection that sets a brand apart from the rest, and in this case, literally off the charts in terms of evening wear for the rich and famous.
I remember the reason why I do fashion every time I look at a collection that makes my jaw drop. The late Alexander McQueen was the ONE designer who was the culprit for my gaping mouth drooling at my computer screen for the past few years. More recently a compelation of designers clutter up my fashion icon folder on my desktop as well as keep my gaping mouth floored with the excecution of their designs.
Marchesa is one of those select icons, I think you'll agree:

Jumpsuits in lace, and fit for a queen? Wonderfull, ethereal, and powerfull.

It intrigues me that when one of my idols leaves this world, another, in this case Marchesa, has stepped in to take up the role of fashion icon and set fashion once again on an upward spiral.

Who are your fashion idols?

Being the fashionista that I am, I am not opposed to the fact that award shows are not actually about who wins the awards but about the wonderful clothes the nominees are wearing!
So who's outfits were your favorites at the Emmys this year?
My personal and completely biased opinion was that Anna Paquin's Alexander McQueen gown was pure genius. Paquin stole the show completely. Not only did she honor the late designer, but chose something that represented her as a super sophisticated and strong woman.
As a die hard True Blood fan, I love everything that has do to with it (no matter how cheesy) I also enjoyed her choice of black...where the rest of the women chose soft feminine colors. I'm curious however if you think it hints towards her love for the dark vampire side?

Above, the ravishing and curvacious Christina Hendricks from Mad Men is wearing Zac Posen, with a Leiber clutch. Next to her Kyra Sedgwick in Monique Lhuillier, with a VBH clutch brings berry inspired colors out into the open for fall.

Here Emily Deschanel, in a tiered grape colored Max Azria Atelier gown topped off with Neil Lane jewels looks sweet while still commanding attention. Next to her, above, is the petite Nina Dobrev in a sparkling champagne one shoulder dress by Zuhair Murad that she paired with Brian Atwood shoes and Chopard jewels.

I had recently begun to feel quite bad about my neglect of Alexander McQueen's last collection on our blog. However, I will explain in my defense that I was awaiting a debut of photos in honor of McQueen's departure by one of the grand photographers of fashion. And alas the wait was rewarded with a feature by Annie Leibovitz on McQueen's last collection for the "Nobel Farewell" in this month's Vogue.

The models are stepping out of or into their awaiting crates sealing them in McQueen's brilliance for eternity. Although reminiscent of coffins, these crates do however, give the garments a sense of timelessness backed by their extreme beauty.

Here are some of the looks from the presentation just weeks after McQueen's death. It was haunting of his handiwork and brilliant craftsmanship and attention to detail. The sculptural quality from his previous show is still looming but with an added draping in the above capelet that is phenomenal.
I'm still shocked that we won't have the original McQueen anymore. But I am impressed with the execution and presentation of his last collection by his team even after his devastating death. Sarah Burton will take over as creative director. Burton who was McQueen's right hand woman and had overseen the womenswear since 2000 will most certainly keep McQueen's legacy alive.

The fashion Oscars have arrived! The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards were handed out last night! Celebrities, models, and (of course) designers gathered for the event!
The top winners included Marc Jacobs (my fav!) for Womenswear Designer of the Year!!

Rag & Bone for Menswear Designer of the Year.

Alexis Bittar was awarded Accessories Designer of the Year.
Other highlights of the ceremony included Ralph Lauren with the popular vote victory and Donna Karan celebrated her 25th Anniversary in the industry!
Time now for my favorite looks of the night. First up, Jessica Biel! Normally we see her in classic neutrals (borderline blah), but not this time! She wore a lively printed dress by Diane von Furstenberg. The dress complemented Jessica's glowing complexion and showed off her playful side. The big jaw dropper for me was Sarah Jessica Parker in an Alexander McQueen gown. The dress made her look like a butterfly with every shade of purple imaginable incorporated throughout the dress.
