  • Illustrator: Luci Everett

I'd like to introduce you to the work of Australian illustrator, Luci Everett, a mistress of paper, watercolor and collage! With a curious, Indie sensibility and a soft, feminine hand, her darling little works remind me of long summer vacations spent journaling, drawing and whiling away hours with handicraft.

Below are a few pages from her book, Pillow Fight, which she describes as, "A visual & experimental documentation of the whimsical, illogical, curious and frightening nature of dreams. A tactile book which documents dreams collected from friends and strangers visually translated in surprising ways."

  • The Heidelberg Project

Frustrated with the run-down, abandoned neighborhoods that plague the streets of Detroit, artist Tyree Guyton decided to do something about it. The Heidelberg Project is two city blocks-worth of artwork, mainly from found objects, that has taken back a street full of empty lots and burned out houses. 26 years later, the project lives on.

"The Heidelberg Project offers a forum for ideas, a seed of hope, and a bright vision for the future. It's about taking a stand to save forgotten neighborhoods. It's about helping people think outside the box and it's about offering solutions. It's about healing communities through art - and it's working!"

"The HP works with neighborhood children to educate them on art, community and environment. These children walk to school past burned-out houses, rubble, debris, crime and decay. Our purpose is to offer them another view, another perspective - to positively change the environment the children see every day. In the process, we help build self-esteem, encourage cooperation and foster a sense of pride in their community."

  • Haruki Murakami Book Covers vs. Street Fashion

They say to never judge a book by its cover, but it's hard not to want to reach for a book with a pretty cover. This is why I've found myself reading much of Haruki Murakami's books. The covers, created by artist John Gall, are inspiring and match up perfectly with the surrealness of each story line, but I never thought the book covers could inspire an outfit!

Fashion blogger Sera Hur paired Murakami covers with a photograph from street style photographer The Sartorialist (a blog you should know about if you don't already). Each outfit is meant to mirror the colors, tones, and mood of each book. Check them out!

    Loving the colors!

Feeling inspired yet? What book covers would you draw style inspiration from?

  • Back to the Future: Old Photos Brought Back to Life

Who doesn't love to open up their old photo album and remember the good times or just wonder what was going on with their hair? Well, photographer Irina Werning decided to take that feeling of nostalgia (or awkwardness) one step further. Why not recapture these moments today? The results are uncanny and totally cool!

  • The Half Graffiti Hotel Room

Who doesn’t want to relax in a pristine white hotel room….with graffiti?! Yes, you are seeing that right!
This half graffiti room called Panic Room by the artist Tilt is part of an artistic effort by the Auvieux Panier Hotel in Marseille, France. The hotel allows six different artists annually to transform six different rooms in their own signature style to create amazing atmospheres!

Panic Room is split into two: clean white walls contrasted by colorful graffiti spray painted all over the walls, floor, and even the bed! This graffiti masterpiece took a week to complete!

And yes, you can stay the night there.
Check out the other eye-popping rooms!

Originally from Seoul, Korea, metalsmith Dukno Yoon currently lives and works in the U.S., creating his elegant kinetic rings and sculptures. With a mix of fabricated metal and natural feathers, the mechanical actions triggered by a simple flick of the wrist (or finger) offer a wonderful and mesmerizing lightness.

  • Norman Parkinson: Vintage Fashion Photography

“I like to make people look as good as they’d like to look, and with luck, a shade better.”-Norman Parkinson

Stunning. Breathtaking. Beautiful. All of these words and more can describe Norman Parkinson’s work.

Norman Parkinson was a British fashion photographer whose career spanned seven decades! Often called the godfather of fashion photography, Parkinson spun the industry on its head, taking models out of the stuffy studios into the real world where he captured their natural beauty. He loved to photograph his subjects in fun or feisty set ups and introduced storytelling to his photos. His photos were filled with a sense of adventure and made you want to be the women in his photos.

Parkinson is most famous for his work for Vogue between 1945 and 1960, where he snapped photos of Hollywood royalty like Elizabeth Taylor and supermodels of the day. So let’s take a look a look at just a smidgen (there was so many amazing photos to choose from!) of his work!

Can't get enough of Norman Parkinson? Then check out more of his work here and here! Okay, the last link is in Russian, but it has lots of his photos for your viewing pleasure!
