  • Old School Heroes: The Art of Fab Ciraolo

Ok, I seriously have to share with you this young Chilean artist I just found out about; Fab Ciraolo. Even though he is not a sculptor, this Pop Art illust-rordinare (Ok I just made that up) is able to weld juicy characters from the past with a 1980's-slash-2000's sense of fashion. And all within a floating stellar abyss. ooooh . . .

Perhaps you remember some of Ciraolo's Old School Heroes like Jem, She-Ra and Chetara. NO? That's Ok, the combinations of zippy patterns, washed-out colors and subtle modern details are eye candy for us all.

  • Blogger Spotlight: Katie of Skunkboy Creatures

Welcome to another spotlight on one of our favorite bloggers! Katie from Skunk Boy Creatures is not only the most adorable doll I have seen lately, but she MAKES dolls as well! This artistic and crafty young mom has the absolute cutest blog! With the rosiest cheeks and the sweetest of vintage dresses, Katy has captured many a heart here at Lulus.com! Take a look below for some of my favorite shots from Katie's blog!

Not only me but a few others around LuLu*s HQ began seriously considering changing their haircolor to the likes of Katie's! We are such a fan of the pretty shade of red although not sure anyone can pull it off quite like she can!

One of the things that originally drew me to Katie's blog was her love for vintage. As a life long lover of all things vintage, I can relate! This picture has some adorable vintage-inspired frames in the background and I love her perfect peter pan collar!

Here is a one of Katie's adorable creatures that she creates and sells on her site! Doing custom orders for weddings and gifts, these handcrafted, sweet animal-friends make an occasion extra special and memorable. I have thought about getting one for my niece (or myself!) for quite a bit and I must say, these particluar dolls seem to carry a special quality. Almost as if they have a little soul behind their sad, button eyes! They are my absolute favorite!

Sweet pink plaid and matching barettes!

I love the attention to detail and the sweet pink hearts!

Making basics look sweet and pulled together!

Omg, are you kidding? This sitting fawn is just perfect!

Always a fan of a good cape, this is perfectly paired with mustard tights and wedges!

    Super cute red heels!

Just to top off this cute overload, take a look at Katie's youngest, Poesy! I mean, if that isn't the cutest baby ever then I just give up.

Make sure to stop by Katie's blog to say hello and to get a dose of a super sweet and adorable plush-makin mama!

    xoxo

  • Penmanship Portraits by John Sokol

And I thought learning cursive was a waste of time....

Yep, those are words, and not just any old words, they're the very words that made these faces famous. Up top, Walt Whitman's portrait is drawn/written using his classic collection of poetry, Leaves of Grass, while the two writers below, Eudora Welty and Robert Lowell, are composed of their respective works, Powerhouse and History. This is the vision of Ohio artist/writer/overall genius John Sokol, who brings the classics to life like never before.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow as A Psalm of Life

John Keats as Lamia (left) and James Joyce as Ulysses

    Grace Paley as Debts

And just in case these faces don't look terribly familiar, check out some side-by-side comparisons with actual photographs, below. Spittin' image!

William Faulkner as The Sound and the Fury

Charles Baudelaire as Les Fleurs du Mal

    Henrik Ibsen as Hedda Gabler

Anybody else feelin' the urge to crack open a book??

  • The Mystical Jewelry of Pamela Love

With jewelry being as important to me as the clothing I choose to wear, I get so excited when a truly awesome jewelry collection sets the bar high for other designers to live up to. New York based designer, Pamela Love, creates pieces rich in spirit that seem to tell a story of another time.

With pieces that seem to be insipired by both futuristic cities and by imagery of the occult, Love's line is pure visual storytelling. The enigmatic nature of this collection captures your attention and allows you to imagine the magical place from which these items originated. Whether they conjure up the Southwestern desert or the waters of Atlantis, the light of heaven or the darkness of hell, the end result is pure genius. Now one of the most covetable jewelry lines out there, Love's work is being rightly celebrated.

With chunks of crystals and armloads of brass, these linear bangles and earrings are some of my favorite pieces. Almost like a favorite talisman from a roadside bazaar, these high end versions of timeless classics exercise a remarkable and powerful influence over me and evoke a deep sense of magic.

The designer, seen above, has a special understanding of the symbols of life and death and had managed to create jewelry that seem to respect those two states of the human condition. Both beautiful and macabre, this collection will stick with you long after you view its array of captivating pieces.

  • Blogger Spotlight: Mandy of Oracle Fox

Blogger Spotlight is back! With a focus on Valentine's Day, my favorite day of the week was on a brief hiatus. Now we are back with a blogger so talented and stylish that it was beyond worth the wait. Let me introduce you to Mandy Shadforth of the amazing Oracle Fox. This is a daily read for me and my close friends. It is a magical mix of great photography and spot-on styling. Mandy, hailing from Australia, not only makes flawless wardrobe choices but happens to be an amazing artist. Her range scopes from the super-realistic to mixing mythic images with astrological symbols. Her work is beyond captivating, so make sure to check it out here. Lets take a look at her some of my favorite images from her site.

Above is one of Mandy's casual sketches that she posted on her blog. Her paintings are far more elaborate and realistic, but I just loved this super sweet hippie-love-child sketch with the beautiful desert background.

Obsessed with these leggings! The metal beading and sheer fishnet is a total homerun and I wish they were mine!

You all know I am a serious ring freak. Mandy sports some of the best rings in the blogosphere! I am in love with the large chunks of crystal and silver skulls.

One of Mandy's specialties is overlaying photographs with images of animals and nature. My favorite is shown above; the horses and her pose are so perfect together.  I am super-obsessed with this blogger and I know you will fall in love once dive into the magical, mythical world of Oracle Fox!
