  • Mood Board: Festival Fashion

Like most every girl I know, I grew up creating mood boards and collages for everything. Crushes, my favorite bands, clothes, you name it. So I decided to go back to my roots and create some mood board/collages of my favorite summer festivals and some outfits to go with them.
    Coachella.
Desert, feathers, fringe, and flower crowns- oh my!

    Bonnaroo.
Get a little bit country, then a little bit rock and roll. Add a dash of 70s flair and you're set.

    Sasquatch.
Gorgeous views and gorgeous people, in the cleverly named George, Washington.

    xoxo

  • Festival Season Part 3: The Bonnaroo Line-up!

If I included every single artist that was going to be at Bonnaroo this year, you'd hate me for going on so long. Instead, I've decided to highlight some of my absolute favorites and some of groups I've seen live before . . . and loved!

If you don't know already, some the headliners for Bonnaroo 2011 include Eminem AND Lil' Wayne. I can't help it, I'm sold. While I haven't been a huge hip-hop fan since 1993, I really believe that these two are some of the most talented hip-hop superpowers out there right now, and as a writer, I am always impressed with their clever and high-powered lyrics.

Raise your hand if you think these two might be teaming up for festival-powered duos!!
The crazy, kooky gypsy punk band, Gogol Bordello, will be there, as well as a Global Gypsy Punk Review curated by Eugene Hutz (that's Eugene in the middle with the mustache and stripey pants)!
Florence (and the Machine) looks like she got stuck waiting in line on the road, but no, she'll be there too!
Live electronica gurus, Beats Antique, are coming to woo you with class, ambiance and a bit of tribal bellydance.
Do you like The Strokes? Of course you do, EVERYBODY likes The Strokes!!!
Ray Lamontagne. . . oh goodness. Did anybody see him on Letterman May 12th? If not, then check out this link for the performance.
Loretta Lynn: lookin' just as sweet as a peach in her pink gown. Collaborator with fellow musician Jack White of The White Stripes, Loretta is as contemporary as ever. Work it girl!
A few years back I got to see the lovely Miss Abigail Washburn (below) play with an-all girl group called Uncle Earl. Abigail was a definite standout, and if you're lucky, you may get to hear her sing in fluent Mandarin!
And, if you've ever seen the Old Crow Medicine Show, then you know that these Alt-Country Bluegrass fellas simply tear the stage up! With super high energy and clever, witty tunes, these good ol' boys are a total fav.
    Who else you ask?

How about The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, Primus, Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, Beirut, The Del McCoury Band and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, G. Love & Special Sauce and Amos Lee. To view the entire line-up go here.

Don't forget our friends the Kopecky Family Band will be there, and you can enter to win 2 tickets to Bonnaroo on the Contest Page
  • Festival Season Part 2: Win Tickets to Bonnaroo from the Kopecky Family Band!

Are you ready to win tickets to Bonnaroo?

Enjoy the fresh indie musings of the Kopecky Family Band, win a fabulous prize package, and pack up the car on your way to the Bonnaroo music festival in Manchester, Tennessee!!!!!

This talented hipster troupe is not only natives of Nashville, but they have extended their skillful hands to you to join them at their Bonnaroo debut. With sounds similar to Feist or My Morning Jacket, these kids create music that is ". . .emotive, and evokes raw honesty and vulnerability, whilst capturing your attention through its unmistakable power and presence. The sounds created by the booming and orchestral-like 6-piece challenge the listener’s ear while still offering sweet melodies to sing along with."

I love this song, "Howlin' at the Moon" and after you see them in this quaint little radio booth you can come join the family by entering on the Contest Page.

Anybody ready to marry into this family?
  • Festival Season Part 1: Best Fest Movies!

Alright, who's planning for festival season right now?

True, Coachella is already over for the year, but if you're getting amped to pack up the car (or bus) for Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, or any of the many festivals out there, then let's get amped together!

To start, I wanted to share some of my favorite festival movies, and a few I just discovered. From documentary to mockumentary, there are some really great flicks that will surely get you online to buy your tix! Let us begin from the beginning:

Fest Movie 101: Woodstock the Movie I think it's time to see this three hour masterpiece that harkens back to the days of your parents. Get a cool blast from the past, enjoy the music, and you will totally have something to talk about the next time you have dinner with your folks!

Take Two: Taking Woodstock Maybe you're not into all that old footage. Check out the movie Taking Woodstock, where Demetri Martin plays Elliot Tiber; the young genius who managed to bring the infamous festival to his home town. Crush Alert: Both Emile Hirsch and Jonathan Groff (who starred in several episodes of Glee) are in this film, and cute beyond belief!!!!

Fruit and LOTS of Cheese: Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo This is the funniest darn mockumentary starring Les Claypool (of Primus) and tons of other rockers. The plot: small time jam band, Electric Apricot, gets their first chance to play as opener in the elusive festival of all festivals "Festeroo". Filmed at the High Sierra Music Festival, this one is tons of laughs. Just check out the trailer and you'll see!

Many of the real fests have their own documentaries as well. Bonnaroo, Glastonbury and Coachella all have their own and if you're truly a fanatic, you've probably seen them.

Have you been to any of these or other music festivals?
