  • Hot Trend: Cropped Leather Jackets

A quality leather jacket is a classic wardrobe staple for most, and now we're seeing a new play on this time-tested look. The cropped leather jackets of Fall 2009 are fun and spunky.

I love seeing them paired with feminine, floral dresses. The look screams: naughty but nice!

The Headliner Vegan Leather Crop Jacket [sold out!] newly arrived here at LuLu*s is a great way to get your hands on the trend. I love the blazer collar with the studs. What a knockout!!

  • Boots: Over the Knee and Out of Sight

Ever since I saw Anne Hathaway sporting those thigh-high Chanel boots in The Devil Wears Prada, I knew my life was missing something.

Those old motorcycle boots I wore all last winter just wouldn't cut it. I wanted over-the-knee in every color.

Thankfully, Fall 2009 has seen a plethora of over-the-knee boots on the runway and now on the market. Perfect paired with skinny jeans or a sexy mini and tights, these boots will beg to be worn everyday.

So imagine my glee when LuLu*s ordered a variety of over-the-knee boots in various colors and textures for the fall season. The Jeffrey Campbell A-Plus Grey Patent OMG OTK Heel Boot [sold out!] is so daring and fun; it looks straight off the runway.

I happily took home a pair of the G O Max Jiera 01 Black Suede OTK or Cuffed Flat Boot. With a flat foot and a slim upper, this boot was just what I was looking for.

A fairy tale ending, if I do say so myself. Stay tuned for more boots in the future!

  • Mad Men Fashion

Congratulations to the hit series Mad Men in taking home the 2009 Emmy for best drama!

I've just been getting into the series myself and couldn't help but be struck by the gorgeous costumes and period pieces found on the characters. Set in the 1960's, the costuming here is pure vintage wonder. I wish I had every high-waisted skirt in Peggy Olson's closet and every darling floral dress that Betty Draper just wears around the house.

Perhaps I'll find a little something similar in our new vintage line...

Go behind the scenes to the Mad Men costume shop with the video below:

  • RED Hot Emmys

Last nights Emmys was the first time I had watched the award show and actually enjoyed it -- mostly due to Neil Patrick Harris, but also largely due to the excellent fashion! Really, there were no major bombs. Sure, some missteps, but nothing so ... pronouncedly shocking, like Bjork's swan designed by Marjan Pejoski from the 2001 Oscars.

What we did see? RED! Lovely dresses from Jennifer Morrison, Debra Messing, Sigourney Weaver and Carrie Preston.

But the red dress of the evening definitely goes to Blake Lively. Fantastic shape, dangerouly low plunge... makes me think of our own Lady Danger in Red Dress [sold out!]. Wow! Fashion never looked so hot.

  • Fashion Recap: VMA Awards

Whether or not you caught the VMA Awards last night, chances are you heard plenty about it. Drama or no drama, some of our favorite musicians and celebs brought their game to the dance floor, showcasing some of the latest styles, and always daring to be different.

Taylor Swift bejewed in a flowy gown. Alicia Keys rockin' the sequins.

Beyonce was a lady in red while Katy Perry kept it sassy in silver.

And....sometimes you get caught looking not so different...

Pink and Shakira laughed it off, though, and made the best of a funny situation.

    Who wore your favorite look?

  • Steal the Style: Angelina Jolie's Black Maxi Dress

Angelina Jolie is known for her classic yet daring fashion choices on the red carpet. And even in her down time as a busy mom, this sultry star manages to maintain a super fresh and posh look.

The simple yet fabulous black maxi dress she's wearing below shares a lot in common with our new Karlie Kloss Dress. This floor length beauty has removable straps and a gorgeous ruffled hem for a stylish look day or night. Angelina approved!

  • Movie Review: Post Grad

Much of my summer has been spent frequenting the box office, seeking to escape the heat and indulge my laziness in an air conditioned building where I can eat all the popcorn I want while viewing a new cinematic adventure.

My latest adventure has been Post Grad, starring Gilmore Girls and Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants star, Alexis Bledel. Though it was a bit of a dud in the box office, Post Grad hit a major chord with me and definitely left me smiling as I left the theatre.

The story starts out with Alexis Bledel's character, Ryden Maldby's, graduation from college. She has high hopes for her future, all of which she has planned out years in advance. Of course, things don't go according to her master plan.

She doesn't land her dream job and is forced to move back home with her eccentric family. During her stay, she does some soul searching, learns to bond with her family, flirts with the hot Brazilian guy next door, and discovers her true feelings for her long time best friend Adam, played by Zach Gilford.

I thought Bledel did a splendid job. Her character actually reminded me a lot Rory, her character from Gilmore Girls. Both are overachievers in the academic world who need to learn that real life doesn't always go by the book.

Easily relatable to a post grad like myself, this film gives you a good couple laughs, just the right amount of heart melting moments, and a surprisingly star studded cast, including Michael Keaton, Carol Burnett, Jane Lynch and Rodrigo Santoro, and to my excitement, Demetri Martin!  With its predicable story line and often one-dimensional characters, this flick is a tad cheesy, but sometimes, we need a little cheese now and again - with a side of Jujubes and Milk Duds of course!

  • Hot Trend: Pixelated Prints

In today's world, we love our technology: we keep our iPhones and BlackBerrys constantly by our sides and use Myspace and Facebook to keep in contact with our friends. Now, the cyber world is making its mark on the very clothes we wear.

Pixel prints are a fun trend frequenting the runway, celebrities, and now Lulus! Get the look of a digital darling with our new Virtuality Dress [sold out!] (pictured above, center). The watercolor floral print on this beauty is super magnified to show its pixelated composition for a unique look that will have your friends inspecting you closer. Just say you got it from cyber space ;)

  • How to Hair: Heidi Braids

Sometimes, we gals just don't want to mess with our hair in the morning. Enough with the blow drying, the straightening, and the hairspray already!

When you've got five minutes to get to work, and you want a hair style to get you through the day looking fabulous, the Heidi Braid is your answer. Follow these 5 simple steps, and get ready for the compliments:

    1. Part hair down the middle and separate into two pony tails.
    2. Braid each pony tail and tie off with clip or hair tie.
    3. Lift one braid and lay over the top of your head. Fasten with bobby pins.
    4. Lift up the other braid, lay it parallel to the first braid, and fasten into place.
    5. Secure both braids with as many bobby pins as you see fit.

Now you can make this look clean or messy, depending on your mood. Personally, I like mine to look a little windswept, like Mary Kate's braid above. To start with, braid more loosely and then lightly curl a few loose strands around your face to soften the look.

Remember, when you're in a pinch, this look is a cinch. That Heidi knew what she was yodelling about.

  • Oh, For the Love of JC!

LuLu*s has long been a lover of Jeffrey Campbell, also known affectionately as "JC". What girl can say no to the beauty, comfort, and carefully crafted pieces of art that envelope your feet? So, it was with girlish curiosity that we interviewed the tres amusant Ty McBride, Jeffrey Campbell Brand Specialist, curator for all JC shoe "art", personality and shoe expert extraordinaire:

Ty McBride, describe a day in your shoes.

"That's what I love about working for a small company -- we all wear so many hats. We all truly collab to work together on everything. I do sales, tradeshows, but also oversee a lot of the fun creative projects. I'm the official JC blogger and tweet-master!"

What's your favorite part about going to tradeshows?

"I suppose it's seeing my favorite clients. I am based in NYC, so somethings I don't get to catch up with my clients and friends from Saint Louis, Chicago, or Texas. We have AMAZING CLIENTS."

If you were any kind of shoe, what would you be?

"Oh gosh. A lucite platform with bottom lights. I love trashy."

What should we look for in heel and boot trends for Fall 2009? How about Spring 2010?

"Well Spring 2010 is still in the secret vault. For Fall, I would say you should take my advice on the following: GRAB ONTO COLOR! Color is huge for Fall. Mustard. Purple. Grey. Khaki. Metallics. Mixed proportions -- this is HUGE. Mix an over-the-knee boot with tiny dress for example. Masculine looks for women -- everyone should own some version of that as well."

How do you choose what merchants carry JC shoes?

"They choose us to some extent. We believe in brand loyalty. We try to cater to those who have been loyal to us since we started. We try to respect our clients and their locations -- we try to have FUN clients."

You must meet a ton of die-hard JC fanatics. Are there any particulars that stand out among the rest?

"There are some crazy regular emailers... fans who have seen a JC shoe in an airport, or cafe somewhere... and are now on the hunt for it! We got a lot of iPhone pics with a note that says... 'I NEED THIS BY FRIDAY.'"

I noticed Chelsea Handler from Chelsea Lately was wearing a pair of Marly's awhile back and Terri Hatcher has them in black. What other celebs can be spotted in JC?

"Chelsea Handler!! I love her... I did not know that. We are lucky... lots of cute celebs like JC. Zooey, Kate Bosworth, Nicole Richie, Fergie... One of our favorites is Agyness Deyn -- the famous model. She is often seen wearing JC on her super model feet. Also, our sandals do well with the LA celeb set, Nicki Hilton and Kate Hudson."

What in your experience and opinion, are the key elements that make a particular JC shoe a best seller?

"Our best sellers all seem to have one thing in common. They have to SPEAK to the masses. And by that I mean, they have to fill a void... regardless of its a cute flat, or a crazy heel -- it's strange. It's unique and what people are looking for to complete their look. If we make a shoe that applies to lots of people -- we know we are on the right path."

With that being said, Lulus.com is proud to announce the arrival of the Jeffrey Campbell Michelle Ruffle Unicorn Heel! Thank you to Jeffrey Campbell shoes and Ty McBride!
