  • Mood Board: Festival Fashion

Like most every girl I know, I grew up creating mood boards and collages for everything. Crushes, my favorite bands, clothes, you name it. So I decided to go back to my roots and create some mood board/collages of my favorite summer festivals and some outfits to go with them.
    Coachella.
Desert, feathers, fringe, and flower crowns- oh my!

    Bonnaroo.
Get a little bit country, then a little bit rock and roll. Add a dash of 70s flair and you're set.

    Sasquatch.
Gorgeous views and gorgeous people, in the cleverly named George, Washington.

    xoxo

  • Festival Season Part 1: Best Fest Movies!

Alright, who's planning for festival season right now?

True, Coachella is already over for the year, but if you're getting amped to pack up the car (or bus) for Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, or any of the many festivals out there, then let's get amped together!

To start, I wanted to share some of my favorite festival movies, and a few I just discovered. From documentary to mockumentary, there are some really great flicks that will surely get you online to buy your tix! Let us begin from the beginning:

Fest Movie 101: Woodstock the Movie I think it's time to see this three hour masterpiece that harkens back to the days of your parents. Get a cool blast from the past, enjoy the music, and you will totally have something to talk about the next time you have dinner with your folks!

Take Two: Taking Woodstock Maybe you're not into all that old footage. Check out the movie Taking Woodstock, where Demetri Martin plays Elliot Tiber; the young genius who managed to bring the infamous festival to his home town. Crush Alert: Both Emile Hirsch and Jonathan Groff (who starred in several episodes of Glee) are in this film, and cute beyond belief!!!!

Fruit and LOTS of Cheese: Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo This is the funniest darn mockumentary starring Les Claypool (of Primus) and tons of other rockers. The plot: small time jam band, Electric Apricot, gets their first chance to play as opener in the elusive festival of all festivals "Festeroo". Filmed at the High Sierra Music Festival, this one is tons of laughs. Just check out the trailer and you'll see!

Many of the real fests have their own documentaries as well. Bonnaroo, Glastonbury and Coachella all have their own and if you're truly a fanatic, you've probably seen them.

Have you been to any of these or other music festivals?
Tell us your stories in the comments below!!!
  • Outfit Inspiration: Coachella

410With summer festival season upon us, and Coachella quickly approaching (24 days!), I thought I would give you guys some quick inspiring tips from some fashionable ladies to get your creative juices flowing on how to dress for one of the best summer festivals I've ever been to.

Coachella is hosted once a year on a weekend in April, down in the desert of Indio, CA and never fails to disappoint with both the music and fashion line-up. Spotting "street style" at summer festivals has been a fad in recent years, and below are some fashion staple outfits on the festival scene.

    1. Back to the Basics: Florals

For any type of festival, floral print is always the go-to fabric. This print is perfect for the heat of the desert, and by adding a little brown belt, the perfect hat, and an awesome pair of sunnies you'll always be looking good. Another plus: Stains won’t show up as much with a print, it can get pretty dirty in the desert.

    2. Laid Back: Simple Chic

Most of the time Coachella is crowded and has some pretty gnarly heat, especially when you are in the middle of a hot & sweaty crowd. And in those situations, all you really want to be is comfortable. These ladies take it there by wearing simple outfits based around cut-off shorts and oversized shirts, matched with the perfect accessories. With small details such as the cowboy boots, the blue poncho, and the bright red hat- each of these looks embodies the laid back chic style.

    3. Peak-a-boo: Crochets & Cutouts
It’s no secret that Indio get’s hot, real hot- up to 100 degrees farenheit somedays. A great way to both keep and look cool is by layering loose knit crochets with a pair of cut-offs and boots for a devil-may-care gypsy vibe, like Alessandra Ambrosio. Bring back the 90's by channeling Pretty Woman in a cutout dress, which is also a perfect cover for your swimsuit. Or work it like Kate Bosworth, who kept it minimalistlic in her nude crochet dress and booties.

    4. Hair Flair: the Ultimate Accessory

More than likely you will be camping when you go to Coachella, which means you won’t be able to wash your hair. Whether you are hiding some messy locks with a scarf or donning a hat to hide from the sun, hair accessories are a key tool to looking fresh at any festival, and also protects your head from those UV rays. The floppy hat paired with a maxi gives off an effortless boho chic, the straw fedora will perfectly compliment a bright girly dress, while the romper paired with the head scarf oozes retro-cuteness.

Which look will you be rocking at Coachella this year?
  • How Dita Does Coachella

Dita Von Teese, queen of burlesque and hot retro style, took in the sights and sounds of this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Dita spent the three-day event looking flawless in a variety of outfits that adapted retro glamour for life under a sunny desert sky.

(Left): I am in love with Dita's nautical-style, high-waisted trousers. Her updo is also rockin', managing a put-together look that is also casual.

(Above): From the mary jane wedges to the layers of bangles, this is Dita's awesome version of boho beauty. I love all the earthy tones on that tropical print dress!

(Above): Ladylike charm is what it's all about in this look. Soft satin ruffles, that polished hat and a pretty chain purse keep Dita looking elegant. Psssst, recognize that lovely lady with her? Yep, it's Katy Perry looking day-glo pretty.

What was your favorite Dita look?

  • Summer Festival Fashions

It's that time again, ladies. My favorite season of the year is fast approaching: the season of the summer music festival.

Now music festivals are not only about seeing all your favorite bands in one place. Fashion has become a major staple of the festival scene in recent years. With the appearances of celebrities such as Chloe Sevigny and Drew Barrymore as well as fashion-forward models Agyness Deyn and Lily Donaldson, music festivals are becoming the it-place to be seen.

Not sure where the best festivals are at? Not to worry, most likely you can find a festival in your area. Bonnaroo is held in Tennessee, Coachella near Palm Springs, SXSW in the ever popular Austin, Texas, and Sasquatch in the north of Washington. If you are overseas, Glastonbury is the place to be.

Heading to Glastonbury? Wellies and cut-offs are a staple. Bonnaroo has more of a country style vibe, but wellies will also come in handy here, as it does get wet. Sasquatch is up in northern Washington so keep warm by layering key pieces. Coachella channels the LA style with floral dresses and big hats and boots.

Get ready for your festival days with some essential Lulus.com pieces. Romp around Bonnaroo in our Dellal Day Romper, cruise Coachella in the High Tide Maxi Dress by Insight, or even pair the Wild Wild West Top with the Levi's 501 Cutoff Shorts in Gasoline for the perfect ensemble for any festival.
