  • Trend to Try: Orange Lips!

If you've ever wondered about orange lip colors (or maybe you're already in love) we've tested out four orange-hues from some of our favorite cosmetic companies.

    1. Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Mango Mambo: A coral-red meets red-orange lip color that is perfect if you're trying orange hues for the first time, or if you have ANY coral-red hanging in your closet.

    2. Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Mandarina: Classic orange with a hint of red, this color will fit perfectly in your lipstick collection and pairs well with the ongoing tropical prints trend.

    3. Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Punch Drunk: Creamy and by far the orange-iest of the looks we tried, this color is a high-powered, dramatic, and very urban indeed.

    4. Pixi Lip Blush in Energy: A long-lasting lip stain that is sort of peachy and has a delicate shimmer. This color is great for you minimalists out there, and pairs well with pastels.

  • Smoky Eye Tutorial with Sigma Beauty

If there is one look you ought to know how to do, it's a perfect smoky eye. This quintessential look crosses all boundaries between casual and dressy, and will work with absolutely ANY color of clothing. The smoky eye is easy to master, you just need a nice neutral eye shadow palette, and some good brushes. I mean, if you want an editorial-quality look, you've got to start with good brushes, right?

This tutorial features products by Sigma Beauty which, if you haven't heard, carry an amazing line of professional and everyday cosmetic brushes. Our photo studio is currently using a wide variety of brushes by Sigma, which makes our job just that much easier.
    Products Used in this Tutorial

    a. Make Me Classy Professional Brush Kit with Two-Sided Brush Container
    b. Performance Eyes Kit
    c. Sigma Beauty Eye Shadow Palette in Bare; we used the four center shades in order to create a robust look with plenty of depth.

    1. Start with a clean face and apply foundation primer and foundation of your choice with Sigma's Foundation Brush F60.

    2. We used Sigma's Eye Shading Brush E55 with the light golden shade Command over the full lid.

    3. Then we stepped up to the next darkest shade, Act, and swept a small amount across the bottom half of the lid with Precision Tapered Brush P86 in order to create depth.

    4. We started the smoky effect using the Medium Angled Brush E70, concentrating the light charcoal grey shade Snoop on the outer half of lid, and following the natural crease of the eye.

The fourth and final shade Hitch (a deep brown shade) is applied to the very outside corner using the Shader Crease Brush E47.

*To transform from a day to evening look, add a little extra Hitch.*

    5. Finally we added a black liner to define the lash line followed by a touch of mascara and a swipe of dusty rose blush. Our new favorite red lipstick; Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Red Label adds the final pop!

  • Maybe She's Born With It: Maybelline Calendar 2012

Oh 2012, what will your next eight months bring? So far we've had a craze of minty freshness and pops of powerful citrus, but Maybelline seems to think the future might just be even brighter than that. With fistfuls of glitter, a whole lot of spandex, and some berry beautiful shades of eyeshadow and lipstick, the window-washers, teachers, and mechanics of the future are about to have a whole lot more glam under their tool belts.

No pants required! We writers are definitely in the right profession.

Next time I need to change a tire, I'll make sure to pack my bodysuit and fishnets.

No need to microwave the leftovers; takeout just got so much hotter!

  • Trend Alert: Candy-Colored Nails by Obsessive Compulsive

I have a confession: I'm wearing nail polish for the first time in a decade!

I can't help it, I'm totally smitten by the candy-colored palette I just received from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. Not only is OCC 100% vegan and cruelty-free, but the color palettes are totally on-trend, and the quality far exceeds the price (just like LuLu*s!). When I brought these new colors out, the warehouse became a frenzy of nail painting and we discovered that these nail lacquers have a super-smooth coat that goes on really nicely, and dries quickly. What more could you want?

Obsessive Compulsive Nail Lacquer in Something, Pansy, and Pageant.

The Results: The warehouse favorite was undoubtedly Something, being a creamy almost-but-not-too-shocking shade of pastel blue. For me, though, it's gotta be Pansy, bearing an in-between shade of pinky-purple that is actually a little more subtle than pictured.

  • Sephora by OPI: Glee Collection

Calling all Gleeks! Get ready for some exciting news! If you are even half as obsessed with Glee as the staff here at LuLu*s, then you will be extra jazzed to hear that Sephora and OPI have teamed up to create a collection of nail polish based around all things Glee! Let's take a closer look at the array of beautiful shades.

With names inspired by events and premises of the show, you will be fully entertained from the very moment you read the bottle. Names like, "Slushied,  "Diva-in-Training" and "Mashup" conjure some of my favorite moments from Glee.

This fabulous collection is available in individual sizes or the mini collection, shown above.  Make sure to snap these up if they strike your fancy, Sephora special collections always sell out! Pick up this must-have collection at your local Sephora store or online at Sephora.com!
