  • Daytime Bronze Eyes with Pop Beauty

Here at LuLu*s, we are obsessed with makeup and beauty and we are always looking for a new technique or a favorite product. After we partnered up with Pop Beauty for our recent Fashion Week event, Style Studio, they sent over some awesome products for us! One of the products was a pretty and versatile palette; their Lid Bronzer. I am always looking for products that give me a finished and easy look for daytime and this palette was just perfect for creating a soft look.

Inside the palette there are these super handy instructions on how to achieve this easy and beautiful daytime bronzed look, which they titled "Pop Honeycomb Smoke". I applied the shadow on Grace and her brown eyes were instantly brought out by the soft, violet-y browns and light pink highlights!

I love this look because it adds definition to her eyes without looking over the top. I paired her look with a soft berry shade on her lips and made sure that it was blotted to look really natural. You want to keep the eyes as the focus.

Have you tried Pop Beauty? What are your favorite products?

  • Beauty How To: Runway Color Pop Eyeshadow

Eye, yay, yay! In every color and every style, the bold and brightly-colored eye has been color-popping its way onto runways across the globe. We love the look, but can you actually wear that???

This week we took our beauty inspiration from the looks of Dries Van Noten, Miu Miu, and Prabal Gurung (pictured above) and did a little modifying to create looks for the everyday girl. Check it out:
On Olivia, we took inspiration from Miu Miu's red color-bars by applying Obsessive Compulsive's eye shadow in Burning just across the lid. Paired with turquoise or aqua (and perhaps a matching red nail lacquer) you've got a bright little experiment that's not too over-the-top.
After falling in love with Dries Van Noten's up-to-the-eyebrow runway look, we went with a chartreuse/yellow shadow on Grace, and darkened the eyebrow. Add a soft pink lip and enjoy the shades of spring!
Prabal Gurung's diagonal swipes of blue had such a bold space-age look that we decided to tone them down by working a modified cat-eye across the lid, and around the inner eye. Perfect for the medium to dark complexion!

Obsessive Compulsive Loose Color Concentrates in Burning, Wasabi, and Saturate.

Would YOU wear any of these looks?
  • Urban Decay's New Roller Girl Palette

Urban Decay is one of my favorite brands and has been for years! When you are looking for top quality shadows that are pigmented in beautiful shades, Urban Decay is one of the best options! Always coming out with the perfect new palettes and gift sets, they really got my attention with the new set Roller Girl! Always the fan of 70's nostalgia, I found Roller Girl to be perfectly packaged and filled with the best selection of goodies! Take a look below for some pics and more info!

Packed with four sultry and sweet shades, this palette will be able to take you from day to night easily. "Suspect" is a great shade to use all over the eyelid. Use "Darkhorse" in the crease and "Verve" on the brow bone to give some shimmer and highlight. "Woodstock" is your wild card in this group! Use it in the outer corner of the eye to create a pop of color! You can use a small amount or really layer it on for impact!

Complete with a perfect brown 24/7 Eye Pencil in "Whiskey" and a shimmering pink Lip Junkie Lipgloss! This is the perfect palette to toss in your purse or beachbag for quick touch ups before a night on the town or after a day of fun in the sun! Make sure to head over to Urban Decay for this palette and more!

  • How to Create a Romantic Eye Look in Five Minutes

Good Monday to you all! Today started off as a total Murphy's Law morning: dead car battery on my way to the gym, torn fingernail, and spilled diet coke all over my front seat on the way to work. Luckily, I was still able to make it to work on time and looking fabulous due to my favorite eyeshadow secret:

Now, this particular quad is the palette for brown eyes, but the colors here are so versatile that they'll look great with any peepers. (They do have palettes specific to each eye color, however, if you want to play around with those at some point.)

This particular eyeshadow case costs about five or six bucks, depending on where you get it, but it's well worth your money. Each of the four colors here has just a hint of shimmer that will really help open up your eyes after a long weekend (or a morning like mine!). Plus, if you use a good primer (check out Stephanie's pick here) these colors will stay on alllll day long without getting all gross and creasy on your lids.

Now, you can easily wear each of these colors alone if you want to go for a simple, monochromatic look. Or, you can use the numbering system (there is a number stamped into the corner of each color block so you know which to use first) to create a great smoky, going-out look.

However, my personal favorite color combination comes from using just numbers 2-4. Got five minutes? Good!

    Grab the following:
    1. Above makeup palette.
    2. Brown eyeliner pencil
    3. Eyelid primer
    4. Mascara
    5. Eyelash Curler
    Okay, here we go.

Step one:  Apply primer to eyelids. Use a brush or your finger to cover all the way up to your browbone. (30 seconds)

Step two:  Line top and bottom lid with brown eyeliner. We are not going for a precise line here, just a little more definition, so don't worry about making the application perfect. Plus, you'll probably end up covering some of the line with the shadow. (1 minute)

Step three. Using an eyeshadow brush, cover lid with color number four from the pallette. Apply about halfway up to browbone and extend out toward corner of eyelid. (30 seconds)

Step four. Using another brush, apply color number three to beneath browbone and to inner corners of eyes. (30 seconds)

Step five. Apply color number two to the outer half of the crease in your eyelid. (30 seconds)

Step five. Blend slightly (and add another swipe of eyeliner pencil if you want). (30 seconds)

Step six. Apply mascara. (1 minute)

Step 7. Curl eyelashes. (30 seconds)

    Step 8. Ta-da!

Once you get this down to an art, it should only take you about three or four minutes. You can also skip the eyeliner for a more fresh-faced look and save yourself a minute, or you can use black eyeliner to start and finish off with liquid liner for a more dramatic, night-time fairy-tale look.

Here's a quick little snapshot of my Monday morning eye look.

Annddd, here are some close-up swatches of the shadows by themselves, thanks to Pretty as Peaches.

Will you try this look? Or will you come up with one of your own?
  • Get Glowing, Gorgeous Skin

Beautiful skin with a healthy glow never goes out of style.

Below are pics of celebrities that I absolutely admire for the radiance of their skin. From the flawless luminescence of Dita Von Teese, to the sun-kissed glow of Jessica Alba and the dewiness of Liv Tyler, there is much evidence to show that a soft, candlelight glow can go a long way in enhancing your look.

Step One: Make Healthy Lifestyle Choices

    • DRINK PLENTY OF WATER: Water refreshes the skin and keeps it hydrated and dewy. Have a glass first thing in the morning to wake up your complexion.
    • GET PLENTY OF SLEEP: Nothing dulls down your skin like sleep depravation. Get enough rest each night and your skin will be ready to rise and shine.
    • EAT SMART: This one is a no brainer. Your skin needs to be nourished from the inside out. Cut back on refined sugars and starches while stocking up on whole grains, fruits, veggies, and stomach friendly probiotics like yogurt and kefir. All will keep your digestion system running efficiently while delivering nutrients to the skin.

Step Two: Adopt a Pro-Active Skin Care Regimen

    • EXFOLIATE: Exfoliating 2-3 times a week will remove dead skin cells, allowing younger skin to shine through. It will also help your foundation glide on smoother. Try the Gentle Exfoliating Facial Cleanser by Yes to Carrots or Biore's Refresh Daily Cleansing Cloths if your skin is more delicate.
    • WASH BEFORE BED: Never, never, ever go to bed with a day's worth of makeup on. Your foundation and eye makeup will cake, smear and clog pores. Get into the habit of washing your face before bed, even if it's a late night. Your skin will thank you in the morning.
    • HYDRATE: If you're in the market for skin care products, moisturizer is the thing you want to spend your money on. Choose a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type and use it twice a day. It will plump your skin and seal in moisture. My favorite moisturizers of all time: Mario Badescu's Buttermilk Moisturizer and Kinerase's Clear Skin Moisture Light.

Step Three: Try These  Makeup Bag Tricks

    •  Get a luminescent glow by dusting your face with a sheer, light reflecting powder to set your foundation or light up bare skin. One such powder that is gaining much popularity is Make Up For Ever's HD Micro Finish Powder. If it's made to make you look flawless in HD, then just imagine what it can do for a day at class or work.
    • Apply a highlighter to places where light reflects naturally on your face. I like to press Stila's Eyeshadow in Starlight on the tops of the cheekbones, down the nose, at the cupid's bow of the lip, and at the brow bone for a radiant lift.
    • if you're skin is starting to dull by mid-day, boost your completion with a spritz of hydration. I love love love Mario Badescu's Facial Spray It will give your skin a dose of dewy while putting new life back into your foundation.

  • Urban Decay in Fabulous Shades

This weekend I discovered a marvelous eye shadow that I can't help but tell everyone about, almost to the point of annoyance. I've already called my sister twice telling her how much I like the Urban Decacy Ammo Eyeshadow.

"Sis," I said. "The color matching has a great egde to it by covering well with a great shimmer."

"I know," my sister huffs over the phone, "I was the one who bought it ... now give it back!"

Oops! Sorry, little sis, but I'm keeping this one.

  • Halloween Look 3: Gorgeous Geisha

Okay, okay ... just one more Halloween look idea before the festivities of the weekend.

Today's video once again comes from the talented Michelle Phan (because she's just awesome). This time we have a very unique and artistic geisha look.

I love how inventive this look is. I've never even thought about putting pink eyeshadow on the outer corner of the eye. The effect is gorgeous! Definitely a must see.
