  • Fashion Around the Globe: Shanghai Fashion Week

Shanghai was once known as the “Pearl of the Orient” and it is clear that the same holds true with their very talented designers. China’s most creative minds came together to show their Fall/Winter collections at Shanghai Fashion Week and did they ever impress! Let’s take a look at some of these rising fashion stars!

     Helen Lee

Retro cool was definitely the theme for Helen Lee with colorful knit pieces that were all about the pockets. The all over kaleidoscope print was surprisingly chic!

    Zix Guan
Guan’s collection entitled “Killers” was inspired by the one and only Angelina Jolie and the power she exudes while still be sexy. Yeah, I’d say they achieved that! Loving the leather Victorian-inspired jackets!

    Oasis
The ultra feminine shapes and colors on Oasis' runway were all about girls just wanting to have fun wherever they go. We're definitely going to need those print dresses in our closets ASAP.

    EY
A mixture of hard leather and soft flowing fabrics were a treat for the eyes at EY. Who knew tie-dye could look so hot?

    Kong
What would a fashion week be without a truly extravagant show? Well, Kong gave us what we wanted with structured dresses straight out of a sci-fi movie that were still so beautiful without being gimmicky. A light up dress? What a bright idea!

  • Fashion Around the Globe: Nigeria Fashion Week

From New York to London, to Paris then Milan. We all know of these fashion capitals, but it’s time to explore new fashion ground: Nigeria.

Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, played host to ARISE Magazine’s Fashion Week to highlight the work of many African or Africa-influenced designers. It was the event’s second year and a range of 77 designers offered outfits blending traditional fabrics with international flavor that really gave New York and Paris a run for its money!

So let’s take a mini-trip to Nigeria just for a moment to ooh and awe at some gorgeous designs!

     Jewel by Lisa

It's no question that Nigeria was definitely all about the prints. The models for Jewel by Lisa were so effortlessly chic with their fitted dresses adorned with bright stripes.

    Madam Wokie

Madam Wokie created such beautiful, but very wearable looks with batik print minis with ruffled hemlines and pops of neon. Love the color!

     Eki Orleans

Sultry silk minis and gowns stood out at Eki Orleans, with abstract prints that were mesmerizing.

    Loza Maleombho

Structured separates crafted from batik prints, Kente cloth, and wax fabrics really had us hooked at Loza Maleombho. It was a perfect harmony of African influence and modern shapes.

    Maki Oh

Maki Oh was all about sultry and sophisticated looks with deliciously luxe silks and velour crafted into tailored looks we'd all want!

    Bonjour!

On the (high) heels of Milan, Paris Fashion Week has come to bring us fashion excellence on the runway—even in in the streets! So let's take a look at some of our favorite styles of the week!

    Balmain
Fabergé egg-style dominated the Balmain runway with embroidered patterns adorned with beautiful pearls and crystals. The pieces were intricate, but were so cool and casual!
    Christian Dior
Soft and ballet-esque silk tulle skirts made up the majority of Christian Dior’s collection. Paired with super high platforms, this show was filled with showstoppers!

    Jean Paul Gaultier
It was to the streets for Jean Paul Gaultier with cool graffiti adorned dresses and constructed trench coats. The model's roots were also dyed to match their graffiti style. It was street style chic at its finest!

    Lanvin
It was all about the waist at Lanvin with body-enhancing peplums and flared skirts in bright and beautiful colors. The jewel necklaces were stunning!

    Paris Street Style

Now that you've enjoyed what the runway has to offer, let's take some time to appreciate the gorgeous styles in Paris' oh-so-fashionable citizens!

These ladies should have their own runway built for them!

From sultry gowns that evoked pure Italian romance to innovative shapes and fantastic prints, Milan offered up some of the most visually stunning looks of this fashion season! So let's treat ourselves yet again with a look back at this week's favorite shows!

    Prada

Models stomped down the Prada runway in platform mary janes and retro printed suits adorned with gorgeous gemstones and beadwork. Matchy-matchy prints have never looked so chic!

     Roberto Cavalli

Roberto Cavalli released the wild within with his collection of muted animal prints, sequins, and leather. Flared pants paired under matching billowy skirts evoked a sexy '70s siren we'd all love to meet!

    Jil Sander

It was Raf Simons final show for Jil Sander after seven years with the fashion label and it was also one of his best!  A soft pretty-in-pink palette dominated the runway with elegant car coats over silk gowns that were delicate, but strong!

    Gucci

Midnight romance was definitely the theme for Gucci, giving us lush printed silks, rich jacquards and plush velvets. Pops of yellow and green flowers were a new take on floral prints that we can easily wear in Spring or Fall!

    Versace

Versace brought its usual extravagance, only this time in a much tougher package! Futuristic chain mail gowns and retro studded leather dresses showed us that the future of fashion looks bright and sexy!

    Dolce & Gabbana

A modern day Italian renaissance took place before our very eyes at Dolce & Gabbana, with lavish black and gold, white lace frocks, and beautiful cherub-adorned dresses that were works of art! The fashion heavyweight brought some of the most exciting looks of the week!

  • London Calling: London Fashion Week Highlights

The fashion baton was passed onto London Fashion Week this week, showcasing its best designers and their amazing collections. From cool and diverse styles to English-inspired tailored looks, London was a treat to our eyes! So let’s take a look at what our friends across the pond served up for Fall/Winter 2012.

Eclectic is Vivienne Westwood’s middle name and fortunately her Red Label show did not disappoint! Tailored plaid separates and dresses paired with edgy mosaic prints were a nod to the designer’s punk roots. Why not add some safety pins?!

Cool androgyny was achieved with Paul Smith’s collection through sleek tailored jackets and velvet cigarette pants that screamed luxury. The pajama-like tops were beautiful yet masculine!

Matthew Williamson’s show consisted of rich brocades in gold and green and full-length chiffon dresses that evoked bohemian elegance. The orange and robin’s egg gowns were exotic yet romantic!

Duality was definitely a theme for Antonio Berardi with color block dresses and suits. But what really took our breath away were the evening dresses encrusted with swirls of molded sequins that resembled coral. Such detail!

Outerwear was king at Burberry Prorsum with reimagined yet flattering puffer coats and trench coats perfect for any young fashionista! Peplum skirts and cinched in bow belts showed off the right curves!

    McQ Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen’s affordable line McQ showcased its first ever runway show at LFW with gorgeous tea-length gowns printed with oak leaves and colorful flowers that climbed to the neckline. The white gown stole the show!

  • New York Fashion Week F/W 2012 Picks, Part Two

New York Fashion Week may have drawn to a close, but the designers certainly threw down the fashion gauntlet, bringing fantastic looks ranging from ready-to-wear separates to opulent gowns that dreams are made of! So let's take a look at some of our favorite looks for Fall 2012!

Easy breezy bohemian print dresses that we all love to wear weren't the only look on Charlotte Ronson's runway. The sophisticated streamlined knits were not only wearable, but fun!

Project Runway winner Christian Siriano has shown his beautiful designs at NYFW before, but this time he brought out the creatures of the night with his vampy designs! The inspiration was the 1933 B-movie "Vampire Bat." This came across clearly with flowing capelet gowns paired with dark pouty lips and subtle prints

Fashion rookies, Creatures of the Wind, evoked whimsy and wonder when their fantasy-inspired looks took us to another world. The collection's inspiration was the seventeenth-century book, The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns, and Fairies, which comes across in the quirky outwear paired with unabashed bright colors and patterns that clashed wonderfully. The ethereal white gown took our breath away!

School-girl chic dominated Derek Lam's show with vintage wallpaper florals paired with sleek leather pencil skirts. It was like taking a very fashion-forward trip the library! The gold-dipped oxfords are definitely a must have!

Floral-embroidered lace, berry-hue dresses, and patent platform boots stood out at the Jill Stuart show, pairing soft and sexy elegance with a bit of an edge. The outlined collars were a great spin on the peter pan collar trend!

    Monique Lhuillier

It's very easy to get excited for the coming Oscars after seeing Monique Lhuillier's fiery gowns! With lava-like prints on long and lean silhouettes reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour, Lhuillier's collection did not disappoint!

  • New York Fashion Week Highlights!

Since there were so many amazing shows and details at the recent New York Fashion Week, I decided to do a recap of my favorite moments! Take a journey with me throughout the high points of Spring 2012!

Jason Wu showed a fantastic collection full of pretty pinks, black and white florals, and sweet yellows and blues. These gorgeous fabrics made up classically shaped dresses, fierce feminine short-shorts, and flowy dresses. Overall, a very girlie yet sophisticated collection with a flirty and cheerful vibe!

Marc by Marc Jacobs featured playful primaries, patriotic hues, and sporty-yet-sexy pieces. Always of fan of Jacobs, I was really pleased with this collection seeing lots of possibilities in the separates!

     Rodarte

So pretty and artistic, Rodarte really rolled out some elaborate pieces for Spring 2012. With layers of sheer florals and structured separates, this collection, in rich goldens and icy blues, stood out as one of the most visually compelling of the group.

What really had me staring was the smokey and dramatic navy eye makeup. Navy and gold are such a perfect combo and I simply could not stop thinking about emulating it.

Jill Stuart featured vibrant reds paired with neutral camel in feminine silhouettes. Scalloped edges, patterns, and color blocking reminiscent of palm fronds, this was a girlie and classic collection for sure! They all look easily wearable and sweet.

One of the best details of the Jill Stuart show was the awesome chunky gold heels! I fell in love with these and if I am lucky I hope to find a similar pair at a lower pricepoint. Seriously unforgettable.

Amazing patterns and details all around at Spring 2012 Proenza Schouler. Robin's egg blue, bright yellows, and vibrant prints were the backbone of this collection.

I especially loved the tiny handbags similar to a camera bag, with great tortoise details.

Theyskens’ Theory was my absolute favorite! With amazing slouchy pants, perfect sequins, and tailored casual pieces, it was by far the most wearable and versatile collection in my opinion. I would gladly style up the entire lot.

DVF, queen of jersey and wrap dresses, came through with a rad collection of separates! Her always beautiful color combos were expecially refreshing this season!

Umm, I know what I am saving my money for! Check out that amazing DVF clutch. I can imagine how soft that leather is and what a design!

That wraps up my favorite Spring 2012 looks from New York Fashion Week! What were some of your favorite details?!
