  • Street Spotlight: Sao Paulo Fashion Week

I am a huge fan/follower of street style around the globe. I love discovering local flair and being able to be inspired by it and interpret it into my own wardrobe. So I thought it was about time we brought some more street style fashions to the Lulu*s blog so you ladies could be inspired just like me!

A couple weeks ago Brazil had it's fashion week, and Facehunter, an awesome street style blog, caught some amazing fashion and flair from the patrons of the shows. Check out some of my favorite outfits below!

  • New York Fashion Week Highlights!

Since there were so many amazing shows and details at the recent New York Fashion Week, I decided to do a recap of my favorite moments! Take a journey with me throughout the high points of Spring 2012!

Jason Wu showed a fantastic collection full of pretty pinks, black and white florals, and sweet yellows and blues. These gorgeous fabrics made up classically shaped dresses, fierce feminine short-shorts, and flowy dresses. Overall, a very girlie yet sophisticated collection with a flirty and cheerful vibe!

Marc by Marc Jacobs featured playful primaries, patriotic hues, and sporty-yet-sexy pieces. Always of fan of Jacobs, I was really pleased with this collection seeing lots of possibilities in the separates!

     Rodarte

So pretty and artistic, Rodarte really rolled out some elaborate pieces for Spring 2012. With layers of sheer florals and structured separates, this collection, in rich goldens and icy blues, stood out as one of the most visually compelling of the group.

What really had me staring was the smokey and dramatic navy eye makeup. Navy and gold are such a perfect combo and I simply could not stop thinking about emulating it.

Jill Stuart featured vibrant reds paired with neutral camel in feminine silhouettes. Scalloped edges, patterns, and color blocking reminiscent of palm fronds, this was a girlie and classic collection for sure! They all look easily wearable and sweet.

One of the best details of the Jill Stuart show was the awesome chunky gold heels! I fell in love with these and if I am lucky I hope to find a similar pair at a lower pricepoint. Seriously unforgettable.

Amazing patterns and details all around at Spring 2012 Proenza Schouler. Robin's egg blue, bright yellows, and vibrant prints were the backbone of this collection.

I especially loved the tiny handbags similar to a camera bag, with great tortoise details.

Theyskens’ Theory was my absolute favorite! With amazing slouchy pants, perfect sequins, and tailored casual pieces, it was by far the most wearable and versatile collection in my opinion. I would gladly style up the entire lot.

DVF, queen of jersey and wrap dresses, came through with a rad collection of separates! Her always beautiful color combos were expecially refreshing this season!

Umm, I know what I am saving my money for! Check out that amazing DVF clutch. I can imagine how soft that leather is and what a design!

That wraps up my favorite Spring 2012 looks from New York Fashion Week! What were some of your favorite details?!

  • Hot Trends: It's All in the Details For Fashion Week

Have you ever wondered what people wear to fashion shows? When a city is flooded by creative fashion gurus and their followers, there's no doubt going to be some new trends set. On the left is Anna Dello Russo sporting a totally bizarre hat by Alan Juorno, that has managed to get quite a bit of attention. Good for her though, as they say, no press is bad press!

Below is one of my favorite photos taken so far at the shows this year (by jakandjill photographer Tommy Ton). It's almost as if the cheetah and the zebra are meeting up for a bit of a debriefing before running off to the next show on their itinerary.

For a taste of what a blogger looks like at fashion week, meet Susie Bubble from Style Bubble. Susie, as one of my favorite bloggers, is part of my daily fashion intake. Susie has a super-postive vibe about fashion and always seems comfortable outside the box instead of teetering unsteadily on heeless shoes. Susie is of course one of the it-girls in the blog world who's presence during fashion week is a must.

Above is a sampling of her outfits that she wore in the last week. And below, the many shades of brilliant blue topped off with this great knit turban caught and captured my eye. But there is a detail here that I loved even more than her turban....

It was her doubled up watches. Doubling your watch = double the time, I wish! But seriously, so cute.

This photo (above) was taken by Phil Oh.

Below are some other examples from Tommy Ton of wrist layering, with a watch thrown in the mix for good measure.

The other thing I've noticed is the billowing white maxi skirts with heels at heights unknown, poking out the bottom as these ladies strut from place to place.

Here is a shot of how cool a transparent white maxi can look layered with tights and a jacket. Make sure you always stand in the sun so that a blogger photographer can get the perfect photo of you!

Last but certainly my favorite, is the Man Repeller in a white maxi with layered black jacket and sweater on top.

Even though I try new blogs out almost every day I always end up going back to my favorites. These favorites, including Style Bubble, also include the Man Repeller who recently won an award for having the Most Original Blogger. I highly recommend following her for a daily dose of fashion humor.

Stay posted for more updates on fashion week's fashionably famous trend setters.

  • Our Favorite Bloggers at New York Fashion Week

Here at LuLu*s, we get the privilege of working with some super talented and accomplished fashion bloggers. Both stylish and sweet, these ladies are always a pleasure to work with. Finally, fashion blogging is seen as a real force to be reckoned with, influencing trends all over the world. As a result, we have seen increased involvement from the trendsetters behind our favorite blogs. Some of the special ladies we work with attended New York Fashion Week this year, and I was able to find some awesome shots of them having a blast in the Big Apple!

Above left we have the gorgeous Taylor from Sterling Style giving a loving squeeze to Kim from Eat Sleep Wear. Both of these blonde beauties have a style all their own.

Getting in a group shot with Joan Rivers?! Only in New York, I suppose! Above left we have the charming Christina of Trop Rouge, who just so happens to have my favorite hair in the entire blogosphere! The other half of the "Joan Rivers sandwich" is Taylor, again from Sterling Style.

Looking very "Sex and the City," Taylor and friends strut around the big city!

Introducing two more lovely bloggers whom we so adore, Julie from Orchid Grey and Jennifer from Jen Loves Kev (left to right). I am in love with this picture, particularly Julie's pants and Jennifer's perfect dress! Although I haven't worked with her yet, I have to give a shout out to Punky (far right). I have been a long time follower of her adventures via her blog, Punky Style. This vintage lover leaves all who read her blog thinking, "Man, I gotta do something cool with my life!" Definitely check out all three of these talented ladies!

One of the first talented ladies we had the privilege of working with was Rebecca of The Clothes Horse. I am in love with her style, feminine with a touch of whimsy, as seen above in her superb taste in headbands! She has truly developed her style, allowing in new pieces and trends but always looking "very Rebecca." Her blog is a must-read for those of you looking to build a blog roll.

Once again we have Jen from Jen Loves Kev! I had to feature this amazing dress on its own! I am in love with the vintage floral pattern.  Along with having amazing style, Jen posts recipes and what it's like parenting a young baby! For all of you new mommies out there, Jen's chronicle of her beautiful daughter Rowan's growth is something to smile over.

Above we have the beautiful Aimee of Song of Style! She has an amazing modern and edgy style. Not to mention, her hair is always perfect! Her blog is definitely one of my personal faves; check her out and you will be hooked as well. I found this picture perusing the internet on HarpersBazaar.com.

Here we have Krystal from This Time Tomorrow. I love her! She always looks like she is about to giggle, and in this picture, I think she really is! Rocking a perfect pairing of chambray shirt and white fur coat, she is on trend and looking super cute! In her writing, she comes across as some one that you could just become friends with in an instant! Read her blog to find out the funny story of what happened to these gorgeous shoes she has on.

Oh my favorite, Keiko Lynn! The ultimate, stylish girly-girl with perfect hair and makeup and the all-time cutest dog! This amazing designer/blogger has the sweetest style and personality to match. Everyone loves Keiko and if you head over to her blog, I am sure you will fall in love too! I found this picture in an article covering street style at NYFW on Harpersbazaar.com.

Thanks to these lovely ladies for many great posts and pictures! Make sure to check them out!

  • NYC Fashion Week Update: Rodarte's Romantic Portrayal of the American Grasslands

One of the most anticipated shows this season was Rodarte. Partially because of the Mulleavy sisters' success at pulling the heartstrings of the rich and famous, as well as the seasoned fashion experts they've created quite a cult following. Yesterday was no exception as you could almost feel the fashion world take a deep breath just to calm down before their show began.

Luckily for the Mulleavy sisters, and for our anxiety issues, the women behind the label have once again hit gold. And quite literally this time.

The models were brushed in gold with shining golden locks walking down and around a runway dressed in gowns with printed golden wheat stocks. Sky blue was infused into the collection as well as a brilliant sunset red to complete a range of prairie tones.

And now, with no further ado, here is the golden hour of Rodarte for Fall 2011:

  • NYC Fashion Week Update: The World in Color at Philosophy di Alberta Feretti!

If you're looking for some color on the horizon, a hint that not all of fashion has gone over to the dark side, then the Philosophy di Alberta Feretti Fall 2011 show is right up your alley.

This show not only exhibited vibrant shades of every pastel, but also the more saturated and vibrant colors, such as fuschia, that are so strong right now. Also an excellent example of merchandising, in this presentation Ferretti gave the women watching no option but to buy each outfit in its entirety. Each model walked out in a coat that they then took off to reveal their calculated (to perfection) outfit underneath.

To call this a retro-revival would be an understatment. These girls looked, from their makeup to shoes, straight from the 60's and early 70's.

And I will take the liberty to say I am loving these coats and the delicate knit pieces underneath them.

Oh, and I could/should write an ode to fuzzy fashion this season begining with these colorful and fantastically fuzzy jackets.

Last but not least is my favorite piece from the show, a soft but structed knit dress (below).

What will you be wearing next fall?

  • Fashion Week: Alexander McQueen's Legacy Lives On!!

Since McQueen's death I was apprehensive about what was to come.

However, for the Spring 2011, collection Sarah Burton (his successor) has taken the house on a journey through feminism that was astoundingly beautiful and left me just as breathless as McQueen's previous collections.

The craftsmanship was not left by the wayside but perhaps enhanced.

A dress covered in butterflies and the shoes made out of leaf shaped pieces as if the models were actually walking through a leafy wonderland with butterflies landing on their toes!!

Are you as breathless as I was when I first scrolled through these pieces?

  • Fashion Week: Balmain Brings Americana Punks to the Forefront of Fashion!

The distressed t-shirt and the American dream have picked up momentum at Balmain for Spring 2011.

After seeing Balenciaga's structured and crisp futuristic separates this season, I thought we were officially done with the distressed t-shirt and grunge glam that had grasped us all for so long now.

However, presented printed and worn, reversed and flipped, the American flag used throughout the collection was a genius reference to Jasper Johns' painting Flag from 1954-55 (above image). And I will say, after spurring the military-metallic-chain mail inspired trend that took off around the world, Christophe Decarnin for Balmain is someone to keep an eye on.

Let's call this homage to plaid, motorcycle jackets, lace up boots, and the red, white, and blue lumberjack chic.

Whether it is studded, metallic, painted, or kept to a crisp clean this collection is refreshingly, actually, ready-to-wear.
