  • Prada Takes High Fashion to the Highway

I'm not gonna lie, I've been to a few hot rod shows in my day, so when I saw Prada's Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear collection, the little girl in the rumble seat inside me let out a little squeal of glee. Finally, fashion that my dad might even appreciate....

All the initial hype I read was totally shoe-centric, and they deserve it, but hello! Look at how great everything is!

I love how she incorporated the classic car motif in so many ways, yet makes the traditionally masculine concept seem so feminine and sweet. Think muscle car-meets-pin-up, with a little fifties housewife mixed in. Prints, micro prints, racing stripes, flames, and full-on hot rod decals and embroidery... Oh my! And the color palette! Who wants to hop in my '57 Chevy with me and speed on down to the malt shop? (No, I don't actually have a '57 Chevy, or know where you'd find a malt shop nowadays).

But really, let's get back to the shoes, am I right? Spoilers, wings, chrome, flames, and even tail lights, plus the occasional bow or jewels? I could gush for hours.

  • Accessory Spotlight: Guatemala Stripes

It began with these three cuties from Rocket Dog, then all of a sudden... they were everywhere!
I'm loving these woven stripes, which are nearly impossible to nail down to any single name. I've heard: Guatemala stripes, aguayo stripes, woven stripes, tribal stripes, ethnic stripes, Peruvian stripes, boho stripes, Navajo stripes... the list goes on. And on..... Whatever you choose to call them, I'm loving the bright colors for spring and summer. And we have a ton in stock here at LuLu*s! Now! And it's not just us. Check out some of the high fashion doppelangers on the Spring runways.

  • Street Spotlight: Sao Paulo Fashion Week

I am a huge fan/follower of street style around the globe. I love discovering local flair and being able to be inspired by it and interpret it into my own wardrobe. So I thought it was about time we brought some more street style fashions to the Lulu*s blog so you ladies could be inspired just like me!

A couple weeks ago Brazil had it's fashion week, and Facehunter, an awesome street style blog, caught some amazing fashion and flair from the patrons of the shows. Check out some of my favorite outfits below!

  • Style Votebook: Cold Shoulder vs. One Shoulder

Out with the old and in with new . . . so goes the world of fashion.

The past few years have brought a lot of attention to the shoulders, first with the one-shouldered craze, and more recently with the open, "cold shoulder" look. Take a peek at some of these recent styles, reflect, and be sure to vote for your favorite trend in the comments!

It's time to give YOUR opinion on the matter. Who beats who? The One Shoulder or the Cold Shoulder?
  • Best of Pre-Fall 2012

Okay, so if you didn't know, we just finished the pre-fall season for 2012. Below I  highlighted my 10 favorite collections from the pre-fall season, in no particular order. You can agree with me or not, it's okay, it's what make the world turn, you know? You can always comment with your thoughts (wink wink, nudge nudge).

*So Chanel would totally make this list (it was one of my fav shows) but we already did a blog on it. So, don't freak out, k?
  • Prada Presents: Il Palazzo. A Palace of Role Play

I know we normally talk about exclusively women clothes here at Lulu's, but Miuccia Prada's AW 2012 Menswear show was too good to pass up. Plus it allows me to report on menswear, which I love almost as much as womenswear. Almost.

Prada exclaimed from backstage that this show was "A parody of male power." She made sure nothing was as it appeared. The formal clothes were cut from denim, what appeared to be mohair was really cotton. The baroque patterns on the pieces are composed of football helmets or Native American headdresses. Each look more impressive than the next.

The piece de resistance came at the end of the show, when Miuccia paraded out actors. And not your Channing Tatum, chiseled abs type. No she brought out the strong brooding types. The award winning types (No offense, Channing, but, you know). From Emile Hirsch, to Jamie Bell, to Willem Dafoe, each played their part as the walked down the runway.

Tim Blank, of Style.com, described it best:

"If you accept that actors play archetypes, then each of them represented a particular kind of man. It wasn't only the accompanying soundtrack of Michael Nyman's music from The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover that cued Tim Roth as a gangster or Adrien Brody as a dandy."

Did yout enjoy this runway show as much as I did? Or are you like "eh" about menswear. Let me know! xoxo
  • Louis Vuitton's (Wo)Man Made Menagerie

Pets in your purse: out. Pets made out of purses, wait.... what?!

Billie Achilleos, "versatile artist & maker of things" (as stated on her blog), was commissioned by Louis Vuitton to create these adorable little critters out of their designer purses, wallets, and accessories to celebrate the fashion house's 100 year anniversary. The collection, named Maroquinaris Zoologicae, is set to kick off a world tour this year, so be on the lookout for a flock of purse birds cruising by your window.

  • Moxy Creative House

Behold the awesomeness of minimalism! I wish I could tell you more about Moxy Creative House, but, in the spirit of minimalism (and their site being under construction, to be honest), let's just ogle their awesome series of posters depicting iconic fashions (Dress the Part), eyewear (Framework), and beverages (Mixed Reviews) from movies and music (Ensemble). Very cool.
