  • STOP Project: Read the Messages

Road rage, pull over. Somehow, that bright red octagon isn't nearly so abrasive anymore due to the creative copy of Changing Lines.

Here's how the designer describes his creations, entitled the STOP Project:

"I love typography and I always loved to combine different styles of typefaces. In my new project I have tried to communicate some ironic and critical messages by combining several cool typefaces. STOP signs were chosen in strategic locations in order to create an immediate relationship between the messages, the locations and the experiences of the moment. They force people to stop and read the messages, causing a reaction that requires them to question their acquired habits and behaviors."

Kinda makes you "stop" and think, doesn't it?

See more on their Facebook page.

  • Film to Fashion: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

As my fellow cinephiles out there can attest, some classic films have a magic about them that make you feel like you're right there in it, watching history change before your very eyes. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, filmed waaay back  in 1919, was at the forefront of the German Expressionist movement, and the most classic of all classic horror fiilms (yes, even before Nosferatu!). Madmen, murder, sleepwalkers, and silent screams . . . Oh yes, it's silent, which always takes a little getting used to for us modern viewers, but the striking, abstract visuals are more than enough to keep you hooked.

With something so stylized, my mind automatically shifts from highly stylized... to highly stylish! How can I wear this?! So how about working some Caligari-inspired pieces into your wardrobe? Abstract prints, sharp angles, and geometric shapes channel the silent classic, while injecting some sharp chicness into these dramatic looks!

  • Dare to Bare: Top 10 Most Famous Bikinis

Ever wondered where the bikini came from?

By the time the 1940s rolled around, American actresses had popularized the still-modest, high-cut two piece bathing suits. With the end of the war, however, came a resurgence of independence and attitude. French automobile engineer Louis Réard set out to win a contest to design the world's smallest bathing suit. What he came up with was one that would leave the belly-button exposed, a fashion feat that had never been performed. He called it the "bikini" after the atomic bomb test site in the Pacific known as Bikini Atoll. Apparently, he wanted the shock to be as explosive as an atomic bomb. Go figure.

And there you have it! The bikini was born! And here are the top ten (in my book, anyway), that followed.

#1. Micheline Bernardini wore the first ever bikini at a poolside fashion show in Paris on July 5, 1946. Nineteen-year-old Bernardini was actually a nude dancer for the Casino de Paris at the time, and she was hired for the show because none of the other French models would wear the "scandalous" bikini.

#2. Brigitte Bardot made waves with a skimpy floral number at the Cannes Film Festival in 1953 that shocked American housewives and had all the men drooling.

#3. Ursula Andress played the role of Honey Ryder in the 1962 first-ever James Bond flick Dr. No. She won a Golden Globe for the role as well as the title of "quintessential Bond Girl" and one of the most iconic film moments of all time.

#4. Babette March was featured on the cover of the 1964 Sports Illustrated first Swimsuit Edition. She was the first elite model with gapped teeth (move over Sookie) and the highest-paid model in her day.

#5. Raquel Welch in the 1966 One Million Years B.C. put a whole new spin on sexy cavemen.

#6. Carrie Fischer as Princess Leia will stand out in our hearts forever in the 1983 Return of the JediWho could forget the sexiest sci-fi babe of all time?

#7. Halle Berry in the 2002 Die Another Day. Okay, so maybe she's a bit of an Ursula knock-off in this suit, but she's still damn hot.

#8. Jessica Alba in the 2005 Into the Blue. I'm pretty sure I watch this movie to drool over Jessica Alba as much as Paul Walker. She is my summer motivation for a six-pack and perfect beach hair.

#9. Demi Moore kicked some serious patootie as a fallen angel in Charlie's Angels: Full ThrottleSo what if she was partially plastic?

    And last but not least...

#10. The Itsy, Bitsy, Teenie, Weenie, Yellow Polka Dot Bikini is the most classic of them all. It even has its own song.

So, did I miss any? Let me know in the comments below!

  • Girl Crush: The Cast of HBO's Girls

I dont have cable. Even though I love watching TV, I mostly get to watch it later through Netflix or Hulu Plus. About a month ago, I acquired my friend's HBO Go login. So I had heard no hype about the new HBO show Girls (was there even any at all? I'm seriously unaware). Thank goodness my curiosity took the better of me, because I found some major new girl crushes.

The show follows Hannah (played by Lena Dunham who also wrote and directed the show) and her three friends; the free-spirited Jessa (Jemmia Kirke), the semi-uptight, seemingly perfect Marnie (Allison Williams), and hilariously innocent Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet). What I like most about the show is that it seems real to me, and I can connect all the characters to my life situations, or even people I know.

For me, I have two clear favorites (Shoshanna and Jessa!) but really, every girl is totally crush worthy. Hannah's quirky humor paired with Marnie's sensable ways makes them the perfect best friend duo.

Do you watch Girls? Who is your fav character?

  • Trend Alert: Phantom Heels

Chunky, stiletto, cone, kitten... I thought we'd seen it all. Until, of course, there was nothing at all to see! The heelless platform, or phantom heel as I've affectionately come to call it, is no longer a magical foot-piece reserved for the theatrical likes of Lady Gaga or Nicki Minaj. The cool curved back has been popping up all over, from red carpet to sidewalk, and not just as a crazy Halloween gag. The phantom heel has made it mainstream, so stock up on a pair of your own!

I'm pretty sure Daphne Guinness was born in these....

If you're looking for real world inspiration, then check out Eteclea. This girl rocks the phantoms like it's nothing.

  • Win from BonLook and LuLu*s

Have you guys heard about BonLook?  If you haven't, you are going to be so excited! You can get prescription lenses and frames of your choice starting at just $99! As a lifetime wearer of corrective lenses and contacts, I have always been excited to get new glasses, but so bummed when I've had to shell out several hundred dollars for frames and lenses. The expense has made getting a new pair sort of a special occasion, not to mention having to be so careful with them! Does anyone else remember breaking their glasses and having to explain THAT to Mom and Dad? Well, fret no more, because now at such great prices you can build an "eyewear wardrobe" so you have choices depending on your mood!

BonLook sent me a pair of their awesome, Drink the Kool-Aid frames in black and clear. I loved this look because they remind me of horn-rimmed styles from the '60s, kind of like James Dean. If anything reminds me of either of those two things, I AM SOLD.
I created an account on their site, entered in my prescription information, and then patiently waited for my glasses to arrive. I was so stoked when they arrived only a few days later! Let me tell you that this pair of complete glasses for $99 goes above and beyond in the quality department. I have paid a TON of money for "designer" frames and they were not as well made or sturdy as these adorable glasses. I love the black and clear coloring with the classic vintage-inspired styling. I have had these for a few weeks and they are so comfortable! I get a ton of compliments on them. My prescription is just right, too! I will definitely order from them in the future; such a great value!

Today, we have partnered up with BonLook.com to offer a very special contest to our readers! In just a few steps, you can be entered to win a $99 voucher from BonLook and a $99 voucher to LuLu*s!

Meet Grace, she's one of our newest models here at LuLu*s, and quickly becoming a fan favorite! • Making the Cut: Vidal Sassoon Then and Now

For anyone that has ever sported a bob or a pixie cut, it’s time to pay your respects to the one and only Vidal Sassoon.

The legendary hairstylist passed recently, leaving behind a legacy. Most of us know his name from his many salons hair products, but Sassoon also created famous cuts that helped revolutionize hair into what it is today.

Sassoon made his rise in the 1960s with the “five-point cut” which liberated women from the tyranny of rollers and hairspray, while still looking absolutely chic. His work was inspired by architecture, which is easy to see through his angular styles that frame the face, and models Grace Coddington, Peggy Moffitt, and Nancy Kwan (pictured above) served as Sassoon's muses and trendsetters.

He created the official Mod hairstyle that was worn by Mary Quant and others in Carnaby Street. He was also famously paid $5,000 dollars by Roman Polanski to chop Mia Farrow’s long locks (in front of cameras and reporters) into the pixie cut she sported in Rosemary’s Baby.

Thankfully, the Sassoon effect is here to stay. Sassoon's famous looks still make the cut with many of our favorite celebrities sporting them. All hail to Vidal Sassoon!
