Trend Alert: The Short Suit

When my sister first clued me into this short suit trend, my initial reaction was "ew, no." But then she mailed me a clipping of the original article from the Wall Street Journal and, well, I'm pretty sure this is really, really cute. Now, not everyone is a fan, and granted, it may not be totally appropriate for the stuffiest offices, but the great thing about the short suit is that it looks super chic and tailored anywhere in-between.

Celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Eva Longoria, and Amanda Seyfried have been seen embracing the trend with stylish success.

Jason Wu's take on the trend at his Spring 2011 show might just be my favorite. How chic is the look in the middle! And, according to WSJ, we have a cropped tuxedo to look forward to in his upcoming resort collection. Yes, please.

With all of these adorable options, it's a breeze to find a short suit for every occasion. Plus, it looks equally on-trend with heels and flats alike, so feel free to mix it up! (I'm a big fan of cute oxfords or boat shoes for a casual, vacation-ready look).

Calling All Country Fans: Country Strong Will Knock Your Socks Off

Calling all country music fans!

Saturday night was cold and chilly, so in efforts to stay indoors where it was warm I went out with my friends for a girls' movie night. After buying eighty pounds of candy at CVS, we headed over to the theater to watch Country Strong.

In case you haven't heard of the movie or seen any trailers, here's a little info blurb from IMDB: "A drama centered on a rising country-music songwriter (Hedlund) who sparks with a fallen star (Paltrow). Together, they mount his ascent and her comeback, which leads to romantic complications involving her husband/manager (McGraw) and a beauty queen-turned-singer (Meester)."

Starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Leighton Meester, Garrett Hedlund, and Tim McGraw, this film actually really surprised me for its dark, realistic plot and incredible music. It's a great cast with a great soundtrack, so even if you aren't a big country fan, I'd definitely still recommend this movie.

Leighton Meester surprised me the most on this film, because while I've heard a couple of her songs on the radio or online, I wasn't overly impressed. Given free reign to belt it out without the hindrance of electronic manipulation, however, she was amazing! and every part the gorgeous and talented country star (love the huge curls!).

Gwyneth Paltrow played probably the deepest role of the movie, as recovering alcoholic and country superstar Kelly Canter.

As this song below clearly indicates, she is definitely not just a pretty face or a talented actor. I'd buy her album!

You might already know Garrett Hedlund as Sam Flynn from Tron: Legacy or as Patroclus in Troy. You might not have known, however, that he is also a mcyummy cowboy who can sing like nobody's business.

Here's one of the songs he sang on the movie, "Chances Are."

And then, just because they are so cute, I couldn't resist posting a clip of the duet between Meester and Hedlund.

As you can tell, I loved this movie, and it's already been nominated for a Golden Globe. So are you ready to be wowed? Will you go see it?

The Strong and Stylish Ladies of Iron Man 2

Scarlett Johansson in Iron Man 2 When I went to see the new blockbuster hit, Iron Man 2, this weekend, I expected plenty of action packed scenes and stunning graphics to go with it. The last thing I expected was to be struck by the amazing wardrobe choices of the film's two hot leading ladies.

Gwyneth Paltrow returns as Pepper Potts, the smart and faithful assistant to Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr. Scarlett Johansson also joins the cast as Natasha Rushman, Tony's mysterious new assistant who's not only beautiful but kicks major butt.

Scarlett's character is definitely meant to be the sultry type. Her sharp business attire accentuates her feminine features with the utmost of confidence. Her wardrobe also seems to borrow from 1940's retro style with its high waistlines, polished pumps and one leopard print dress to die for!

Gwyneth's wardrobe is a bit more conservative. Black, grey and navy dresses pair with a tasteful boat neckline to keep her look focused on business while remaining both simplistic and lovely.
