  • Hair Flair: Colette Malouf Sketch Style Tutorials

If you're a visual learner, then these incredible hair tutorials by Collette Malouf are about to be your new best friend.

This New York born and bred hair flair fashionista has been making her mark on tresses everywhere since the early eighties, and you just might have seen her work on shows like "Sex and the City" and "Gossip Girl," as well as on runways of Michael Kors and Michael Lam. Colette is known for introducing easy yet classic styles to the public at large, including staples like the French twist, stick twist, and figure eight.

Two decades later, Colette is still helping the everyday lady stay chic and fashionable with her online hairstyle tutorials. Whether you're need inspiration for a down 'do or a fancy updo, simply head over to her website, where you can click on the various styles below for an animated sketch tutorial. (Sorry, the tutorials themselves wouldn't link to our blog, only the pictures. You'll just have to visit her site for yourself!)

Inspired yet? Head on over to her styles section to view your tutorial of choice! (I love the Grecian!)

I also love that you can pause the sketches if you need a little extra practice on one step or another; the pictures are engaging and clear so that you can avoid all the frustrations normally accompanied with teaching yourself hair styles.

Just can't get enough? Here's a great "in person" tutorial I found on Colette's YouTube channel.

    Now get stylin'!

  • Love This Look: Fishtail Braid

Braids are much loved for their style, simplicity and cuteness.

Fishtail braids are definitely increasing in popularity this summer, and how could they not? With stars like Diane Kruger rockin' the fishtail plait at the Cannes Film Festival, it's easy to see what's so graceful and appealing about this look.

As far as achieving this look goes, it's pretty easy. Sorta like a french braid, but the hair is sectioned and transfered a bit differently. It works best for long hair, and short layers can be tricky to work in.

For a visual refrence, I love this video from Pixiwoo for her "English Rose Hair Tutorial." She makes her braid off to the side and pins it up for a darling effect. The bow headband she puts on at the end is the cherry on top!
Now to grow my hair out just a couple inches longer...

  • Hair How-To: Easy Glam Waves!

In addition to her stunning D&G dress that had me green with envy, Scarlett Johansson was rockin' some glamorous, full body waves at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.

I love this look. It's classic, it's universally flattering, and it always seems to pair so well with easy breezy sundresses when the weather gets warmer.

I'm not so much of a pro when it comes to handling a curling iron, but this look doesn't need to be perfect. The beauty of it lies in its loose and carefree nature.

That being said: there is some technique involved. That's where the lovely Tiffany of MakeUpTiffany comes in handy! One of my fav YouTube beauty gals, Tiffany has an awesome Curls with Volume tutorial that you MUST watch!

Tiffany advises using a 1.5" curling iron and a heat protectant spray of your choice. Take your time and make sure to heat the whole strand of hair evenly. Once done, gently shake out the curls and put on that glamorous strapless dress. Yowza! Now you're ready to rock!
