In the spirit of Halloween and all things spooky let's take a moment to appreciate the captivating art of Sylvia Ji. Known for her paintings of women adorned in Day if the Dead style makeup and other dark and mysterious ensembles.

Sylvia Ji, a San Francisco native, grew up in an artistic family. She graduated from the Academy of Art University of San Francisco with a BFA in illustration in 2005. Since then she has held several solo shows in major cities such as London, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.

Sylvia's haunting work never ceases to capture true beauty and femininity of her subjects while conjuring startling emotions. You almost expect her spooky beauties to open up their eyes wider and reach out of the painting. Her work has become rather well known being featured in LA Magazine, Juxtapoz and many others .

Don't just limit your appreciation to the upcoming holidays of Halloween and Day of the Dead. Make sure to check out Sylvia Ji"s website for a full catalog of her work and hope, wish and pray that one of her shows will come to a city near you.
Happy Halloween!

Whether you're going out or staying in for Hallows Eve, cuddling up on the couch with a cup of hot cider and watching some scary movies with a couple of friends sounds divine. I've compiled a list of movies us girls here at Lulu*s adamantly believe are a must see for this time of year.
So call up the girls and pop in a DVD. There's mystery in the air. Halloween is on its way.
1. Hocus Pocus - Halloween wouldn't be Halloween with out this cult classic. (Amuck, Amuck, Amuck)

2. Practical Magic - Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are magical.

3. Casper - This friendly ghost is still cute and not so scary

4. Sleepy Hollow - This movie has just enough mystery without being too too scary. Plus, Johnny Depp stars. Need I say more?

5. The Adams Family - For when you feel like your family is dysfunctional.

6. Rocky Horror Picture Show - Another cult classic you need to experience at least once and then year after year after year.

7. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! - Because sometimes we need to feel like a kid again, even if we're too old to trick-or-treat.

Okay, okay ... just one more Halloween look idea before the festivities of the weekend.
Today's video once again comes from the talented Michelle Phan (because she's just awesome). This time we have a very unique and artistic geisha look.
I love how inventive this look is. I've never even thought about putting pink eyeshadow on the outer corner of the eye. The effect is gorgeous! Definitely a must see.

Okay, ladies, Halloween is drawing near. Do you have your costume planned out yet?
Well, if you're running low on time and ideas, you have to give this little video a look. One of my new favorite YouTube makeup gurus, Michelle Phan, has put together a gorgeous tutorial on the classic Disney Snow White look.
Even if you already have your costume in mind, this video is still worth a view. I love the way she really embodies Snow White.
Didn't we all want to be a Disney princess at some point? Maybe this Halloween is your big chance. :)
