  • DIY: Pumpkin Decorating Without Carving

Don't get me wrong, I love the traditional way of decorating pumpkins, but this year, I felt it was time for a change. After a little research, I realized that there were many ways of decorating pumpkins without the carving or the mess! These fun techniques will be sure to take your Halloween festivities up a notch, so hurry to the pumpkin patch and pick the perfect pumpkin to decorate.

    Decoupage a Pumpkin

    What You Need:
                        *Mod Podge Glue
                        *Foam brush
*Paper, leaves or other thin materials.

    Directions:

    1. Wash your pumpkin thoroughly so there is no dirt covering the surface.
    2. Once the pumpkin has dried, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge glue all over the pumpkin.
    3. Next, immediately place the item on the pumpkin that you want to be decoupaged. I would suggest something thin such as a leaf, ribbon, or some magazine clippings. This will make it so everything dries evenly and with a flawless finish.
    4. After this dries, put two more top coats of Modge Podge over your final product. Let dry and viola!

    Shimmer a Pumpkin

    What You Need:

    *Glitter of Your Choice
    *Mod Podge
    *Foam Brush

    Directions:

    1. Wash your pumpkin thoroughly.
    2. With your foam brush, coat your pumpkin with a thin layer of Mod Podge glue.
    3. Immediately sprinkle the pumpkin with the glitter. You can even do this in layers so the pumpkin has many different colors.

    Lace a Pumpkin

    What You Need:

*Enough lace to cover your pumpkin completely
    *Mod Podge
    *Hot Glue Gun
     Directions:

    1. After you wash your pumpkin, let it dry
    2. Next, cut your lace to fit your pumpkin. It is easy to wrap the whole piece of fabric around it to give you a general idea of how much you will need.
    3. Modge Podge the whole pumpkin and immediately place the lace all over your pumpkin. I like to lay the lace flat, place the pumpkin in the middle of the fabric and gather the fabric to the stem of the pumpkin. Almost like you are wrapping a wine bottle with tissue paper.
    4. Cut the loose ends of the fabric so all of the edges are even
    5. Hot glue the edges so that they do not fray.

    Paint a Pumpkin

    What You Need:

    *Fabric or ribbon
    *Paint
     Directions:

    1. After your pumpkin's surface is cleaned, paint your pumpkin with a couple of coats of paint.
    2. Let dry and then tie a bow around it. This is such a simply way to bring so much life to a little orange pumpkin!

    Push-Pin a Pumpkin

    What You Need:

                        *A lot of Push-Pins
    Directions:

    1. This is simple, but time-consuming: Merely push the pins into your pumpkin. Make different sayings, pictures, patterns, or whatever suits your fancy. If you have the right amount of patience, you can have a beautiful pumpkin as the end result.

    Rhinestone a Pumpkin

    What You Need:

    *Rhinestones
    *Hot Glue Gun
    Directions:

    1. Very Simple task: bedazzle your plump pumpkin! Heat up your glue gun to start off.
    2. Place a dab of glue on the bottom of the jewel.
    3. Place jewel on desired area of pumpkin.
    4. You can even glue on some little plastic spiders to add even more spooky-glam to your pumpkin project!

    Enjoy decorating!

  • Site to See: Skull-A-Day

In keeping with the spirited mood of October, I just had to share with you this amazing site that I can't believe I only just discovered.

Back in 2007, artist Noah Scalin gave himself the personal challenge of creating an image of a skull every day for a year. The result became the site, Skull-A-Day. Now Scalin is up to the fifth version of the site, but here are some of the original 365 skulls.

I URGE you to go see more of the original project here. It is just too cool.

  • Where the Werewolves Roam: Hollywood!

A while back we delved into the catacombs of Hollywood, and what we uncovered was a wealth of celebrities that by all logical explanation, appear to be vampires. Vampire Fever, they call it.

In the spirit of Halloween (and as a kind gesture to the general public) we would now like to reveal the shocking truth about celebrities who again, by all logical explanation, are possibly, probably, and most likely WEREWOLVES!!!!

    The Shaggy Shapeshifters
We all love Jeff Bridges and Jon Voight, so I don't think it's a far cry to just come out and say: "The Dude" is a werewolf!

Eternal Relics: Betty White and Cher
Don't act like you didn't know!

Hot Dogs!: Shakira and Andre 3000
These wild hotties are on the prowl!
    Awoooooooooo!!!

    What do you think?
Do you have any revelations of your own?
  • The Hauntingly Beautiful Art of Sylvia Ji!

In the spirit of Halloween and all things spooky let's take a moment to appreciate the captivating art of Sylvia Ji. Known for her paintings of women adorned in Day if the Dead style makeup and other dark and mysterious ensembles.

Sylvia Ji, a San Francisco native, grew up in an artistic family. She graduated from the Academy of Art University of San Francisco with a BFA in illustration in 2005. Since then she has held several solo shows in major cities such as London, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.

Sylvia's haunting work never ceases to capture true beauty and femininity of her subjects while conjuring startling emotions. You almost expect her spooky beauties to open up their eyes wider and reach out of the painting. Her work has become rather well known being featured in LA Magazine, Juxtapoz and many others .

Don't just limit your appreciation to the upcoming holidays of Halloween and Day of the Dead. Make sure to check out Sylvia Ji"s website for a full catalog of her work and hope, wish and pray that one of her shows will come to a city near you.

    Happy Halloween!

  • Must See Halloween Movies

Whether you're going out or staying in for Hallows Eve, cuddling up on the couch with a cup of hot cider and watching some scary movies with a couple of friends sounds divine. I've compiled a list of movies us girls here at Lulu*s adamantly believe are a must see for this time of year.

So call up the girls and pop in a DVD. There's mystery in the air. Halloween is on its way.

    1. Hocus Pocus - Halloween wouldn't be Halloween with out this cult classic. (Amuck, Amuck, Amuck)

    2. Practical Magic - Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are magical.

    3. Casper - This friendly ghost is still cute and not so scary

    4. Sleepy Hollow - This movie has just enough mystery without being too too scary. Plus, Johnny Depp stars. Need I say more?

    5. The Adams Family - For when you feel like your family is dysfunctional.

    6. Rocky Horror Picture Show - Another cult classic you need to experience at least once and then year after year after year.

    7. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! - Because sometimes we need to feel like a kid again, even if we're too old to trick-or-treat.

  • And the winner is....

  • Halloween Look 3: Gorgeous Geisha

Okay, okay ... just one more Halloween look idea before the festivities of the weekend.

Today's video once again comes from the talented Michelle Phan (because she's just awesome). This time we have a very unique and artistic geisha look.

I love how inventive this look is. I've never even thought about putting pink eyeshadow on the outer corner of the eye. The effect is gorgeous! Definitely a must see.

  • Halloween Look 2: Snow White

Okay, ladies, Halloween is drawing near. Do you have your costume planned out yet?

Well, if you're running low on time and ideas, you have to give this little video a look. One of my new favorite YouTube makeup gurus, Michelle Phan, has put together a gorgeous tutorial on the classic Disney Snow White look.

Even if you already have your costume in mind, this video is still worth a view. I love the way she really embodies Snow White.

Didn't we all want to be a Disney princess at some point? Maybe this Halloween is your big chance.  :)
