Denim is like the comfort food of clothing. Rare is the girl without a pair of blue jeans in her closet, and no matter what sundress I wear, my blue denim crop jacket always seems like the perfect companion.
But denim on denim was a place I dared not venture. That is, until I saw the trend step stylishly on the Spring 2010 runway.
One trick to pulling off the trend is to mix up the washes and textures. Pair a distressed jean with a crisp jacket or a light, chambray top with dark blue skinnies.

How would you sport the trend?
Dear Diary,
After going to North Shore, learning how to surf, and having a BBQ we decided to go on a hike through the Ma'akua gulch to swim in some waterfalls!
We drove to the East side of the island and traversed down a ravine that looked like it was straight out of Jurassic Park. At the end of the hike the walls closed in and we had to climb up a series of waterfalls to get to the end of the gulch! We got to a point where I couldn't continue and had to watch as Mark (our guide) climbed up the face of a slippery 30 foot waterfall.
When we got home, despite being sore, we dressed up and rode our mopeds downtown for some dancing. Here's what the girls wore out!

On Sierra the Made For Maui Dress by Collective Concepts was paired with Claire Fong earrings, a belt, and layered necklaces for an amaizingly simple but glamorous look! I threw in Sierra's moped goggles to make for a fun and funny acessory to top off the look! Molly sports a vintage leather jacket over her shoulder and huge colorful bangles with a dress that I designed.

With spring fast approaching, shorty shorts are hitting the shelves left and right. I put on a pair the other day and decided it was still too breezy outside and by far too early to be showing so much pale winter skin.
That's when I was inspired to pair my favorite black opaque tights with last summer's denim shorts.
The combination is so wonderfully simple. What better way to safely transition from chilly winter weather to fresh and sunny spring mornings?

The expert bloggers pictured here have mastered the whole jean short/tight pairing. I love it best with cut-off shorts or those with a cuffed hem. Paired with a loose top and a crisp blazer or crop jacket, the look is perfectly pulled together.

For footwear, try ankle booties or flats. Also, the addition of a long, chunky necklace adds the perfect finishing touch.

Viktor & Rolf have finally picked up where their Russian Matryoshka Doll inspired collection left off years ago. In that collection a model came out in an outfit that like a Russian doll that got smaller and smaller. This time an older model and a fashion legend, Kristen McMenamy, came out as if in a fashion show factory and was un-wrapped or un-dressed in order to dress the models coming out onto the catwalk.
The clothes were mostly spectacle and the show was all about Viktor & Rolf as they took visual precedence, over even the models. However, it was still a great show and reflected the importance of the assembly line and versatility in the production of modern fashion.

Color, and the exploration of it in all of its abstract forms, is the bread and butter of the famous Missoni Family of Italy. The Missoni fashion house and its colorful history were founded in the province of Varese, Italy, where a factory was founded around scarves and embroidered fabrics.
After the first runway show in 1958, the decorative patterns -- including multiple colors, stripes, abstracts, shapes, and florals -- became the staple of the Missoni House. The utilization of various textiles, such as silk, rayon, linen, cotton, and wool, is another signature Missoni attribute.
For Fall 2010 Fashion Week in Milan, Missoni showed a variety of crop tops, knit wrap skirts, and blanket-like coats that had pin closures. What was really interesting about Missoni's collection was that the pieces were totally versatile. The pieces could be worn reversed, with the back changed to the front, as well as being able to be pulled up or down in any direction.

My favorites from this collection were the the big wool jackets and wraps accessorized with sun glasses. The wraps were draped to hang and frame the beautiful faces of the models in just the right way.
Our in-house stylist, Cara, came up with some new inspiration for getting dressed in the new year! We'll post one sweeeeet style idea a day for the next three days, so keep posted!
