  • American Lolita: Model Kristy Kaurova in Velour Magazine

In a style reminding me of a modern take on Lolita, Robert Harper photographed model Kristy Kaurova for an editorial in Velour Magazine for August 2011. I love the long flowing hair with a 50's style twist, while the clothing has a definite 70's influence. With a lean towards a young, Lolita-esque beauty, this shoot is one of my favorites of the summer. Take a look below for some of the top shots.

The bottle of Coca-Cola really gives an American feel, especially paired with bright 70's style wedges and a light floral two-piece play suit!

An apple gives the feeling of innocence and youth. I love the rolled up white tee for an almost James Dean, 1950's look.

Super cute high waisted shorts and bow wedges!

A classic halter dress in a gingham print has got to be the ultimate in American style summer fashion. I love the flow and shape of this piece!

Seersucker being another classic American fabric, this playful jumper is perfectly crisp and fun! I really love the gingham bandana pairing.

  • Erin Wasson in Elle France June 2011

In a stunning editorial for Elle France, model Erin Wasson worked with photographer Fred Meylan to create beautiful bohemian images.  Featuring denim, leather fringe and maxis, this shoot was exactly what I needed for some midweek inspiration. Take a look below for some of the best images!

I love the rustic background with the contrast of a maxi and tousled hair.

70's bohemian style with a perfect oversized cardigan and hat.

I love leather shorts paired with a vintage tee. So perfect for summer.

Fringed pants that only Wasson could pull off! In a vintage car with red interior, this is definitely a rad picture!

  • Starring Rosemary Rey: Fashion Editor for Role A|F|M!

For a while now, I have been itching to do a segment featuring stylists. Well, when the first edition of the Houston-based publication, Role A|F|M, fell into my lap, I was introduced to the artful styling of fashion editor, Rosemary Rey.

Rosemary partnered with LuLu*s for some of the looks featured in the art, music and (yes!) fashion magazine, but my favorite part of the whole spread (besides the monochrome stag head) is the minimalism that hovers with an air of seriousness. The looks are sophisticated, feminine and deeply attractive with small splashes of color that hide amongst shadows. The styling is moody without being pretentious, and dark without being dreary.

For a brand new publication, Role A|F|M does not disappoint; the images are juicy, and the content is perfectly contemporary. Read what Rosemary has to say about it!

First of all, can you describe the intent of role A|F|M?
The intent behind role is simple....to bring the latest in local Art | Fashion | & Music to the masses of Houston.  There are a ton of local magazines in Houston but none really focusing on what the creative and talented individuals have to offer.  All we hope to do is bring them and what they are capable of into the limelight.

The first issue of role A|F|M just came out this March, how long has this been in the works?
The first issue was in the works a whopping 6 months!

What brought on the first spark to create a publication like role A|F|M?
It came to my boyfriend (editor-in-chief) in a dream. I remember he skyrocketed out of bed one morning and described to me in detail the publication....the concept, the content and all the other minute aspects. So we decided to give it a go!

What were the most rewarding and challenging moments in the preparation for the first issue?
The most rewarding moment would have to be creating the magazine in itself, the entire process.  Bringing together so many different and talented and artistic people to work together. It was always an amazing meeting of the minds! And luckily we didn't face any difficulties in the prep for the first issue!!

How did you get into styling?
My love and total obsession with fashion as an art form and as tool for self expression propelled me into styling......I think it was inevitable.

    Describe your fashion/hair/makeup style.
I would describe my fashion style as feminine with an edge...hair is naturally tousled and makeup is minimal.

Are there any current fashion trends that you’
    re into?
I'm into everything all the time!!!!!! I think its important to acknowledge trends...try them out....find out what works for you...plus a little trend here and there keeps things interesting.... fashion's about taking risks and being bold every now and again!

What can we look forward to seeing in the future from role A|F|M?
I'm really excited about Vol. 3 which is our "September Issue." This issue will focus completely on fashion!!!!!

Where can our viewers find the magazine?
Well unless your in the Houston area you can have a look at http://www.roleafm.com/

  • Lady Gaga In i-D Magazine April 2011

Lady Gaga never ceases to create a buzz. Love her or hate her, you better get used to her because she isn't going anywhere. Featured in so many magazines, online articles, and more, Gaga seems to be everywhere we look. Take, for example, the new spread in i-D magazine for April 2011. Gaga is the cover girl with a small but totally memorable feature within. Inside "The Exhibitionist" issue, Gaga shows off her now famous facial and shoulder prostheses, multicolor hair, and dark, dramatic lips and eyes.

I love these images. To me, Gaga seems to be redefining the idea of beauty. With an extraterrestrial aesthetic and bizarre yet beautiful makeup and hair, these photographs draw you in, making you wonder what exactly you are looking at. For additional pictures check out the full spread at i-D Magazine's site.

What are your thoughts on Lady Gaga? Do you love it, or is it all too much for you?

  • Space Age Androgyny: Andrej Pejic in Dazed and Confused Magazine

In an amazing, conceptual shoot for the April 2011 edition of Dazed and Confused Magazine, model Andrej Pejic is transformed into a colorful and metallic work of art.

Rejic has quickly become the face of fashion androgyny with the ability to embody beauty of any form. This space age interpratation is no different. With geometric shapes and bursts of light and color, this editorial is one of my current favorites.

Robbie Spencer, the magazine's fashion editor, was the mastermind behind the styling of the shoot, using iconic fashion labels such as Lanvin, Vivienne Westwood and Miu Miu

Many talented individuals came together to complete this other-worldly set of amazing images. Contributors include spectacular makeup by Ayami Nishimura and prop work by the visionary Gary Card. With photography by Anthony Maule, a well repected young trailblazer, the images come together to create a visual fairytale of a land far away. Make sure to pick up the April 2011 issue of Dazed and Confused Magazine to have this amazing editorial all to yourself.

  • Vogue on Vogue: A Year in Covers

While perusing my daily blogs via tumblr the other day, I stumbled on one of the most visually stunning covers of Vogue I had ever seen. With a little research I found that these covers were made by a livejournal user shrubrub and instantly reached viral fame.

    (India & China)

These covers represent every cover published in 2010 of each country’s editions, and the results are hauntingly beautiful.  Each cover also speaks volumes of the conventional layouts of some Vogue editions as opposed to others that take a more artistic approach and embrace the avant-garde.

In both the UK, US, DEUTCH vogue stick with the up close tight shot of the models face.

    (UK, Deutch, US)

While most other editions stick to a full length shot, with the model’s face framed within the “G”

    (Portugal & Nippon)
    (Austrailia, Hellas, & Espana)

The two that stood out to me the most were Vogue Italia and Paris, with their dark and moody themes and eclectic covers, these two editions are an obvious step above the rest.

(Above:Turkey, Korea, Taiwan. Below: Brazil & Russia)

This final image is of all the 2010 covers merged into one with the text removed. Call it cliché but I think I can see the Virgin Mary in the picture...

Let's take a poll and tell me which one is your favorite!
