  • Retro Fox: Brigitte Bardot

Who could be more iconic of the swinging sixties than French model, actress, and singer, Brigitte Bardot? Known for her sexy gap-toothed grin and a bouffant as voluptuous as her body, this French siren was one of the few overseas actresses to be just as well-loved in America as in her native Europe. Today we still lover her beauty, her style, and her photographic legacy.

  • Model Profile: Meet Allie

Meet Allie, the absolutely amazing model from our new lookbook, The Girl & The Sea. She was incredibly genuine and fun to be around, plus super easy to talk to! Below we asked her a few Q's so you could get to know her more. And, as an added bonus, we have some exclusive pics from the lookbook that you can only see on the blog!

    1. What's your sign?
    I'm a full-on LEO.

    2. How did you get into modeling?
I started modeling as a 9 year-old, shooting catalogue for department stores. My mom sacrificed several days a week to drive me to San Francisco and sit through my shoots.

    3. What is your favorite spring trend?
I'm into all the loud graphic prints that are recently popular. I also looove maxis. Super flattering and comfy. :)

    4. I couldn't live without my...
Kickboxing class! I literally look forward to it the whole week, and when the class is cancelled or there is a substitute instructor, it ruins my day.

    5. What do you see as the next "it" thing?
I'm a big fan of cool athletic gear. I love a good track suit, and drop-crotch sweats with high-tops. Right now, most girls are afraid to dress like a guy with street style . . . but I love it, and I think it will catch on.

    6. What's your new favorite item on Lulus.com right now?
As soon as warm weather hits, I stack on the bangles. I love the "Press Play Orange Bangle Set". Orange looks good with everything.

7.What was your favorite part/shot of the recent lookbook shoot?
Easy! My favorite part of the shoot was towards the end of the day, when we were out on the boat, trying to get the shot on the bow . . . the whole boat was rocking back and forth like CRAZY. I was trying to stand up and look amazing, (and not look like I felt as if we were in Antarctica), while struggling to keep my balance and not fall into the water. I ended up falling down 20 times, crashing from one side to the next... but it was hilarious and I laughed the whole time. I like a challenge. ;)

    8. What was your favorite/least favorite thing about being on The City?
Oh man... I have too many answers for this question. My favorite thing about the show was watching the edited episodes. We never had a CLUE how the scenes were actually going to end up after the editors chopped and stirred every reaction and situation. It was always a shock.

My least favorite part would be . . . being portrayed to the world as someone I'm not. It's annoying to be forced to act whiny, sad and upset all the time, when I was actually very happy and having fun. I remember always saying "Aw mannn do I have to act sad again?" "Do we have to fight again?"  "Cant we do a happy, fun scene?" Then the one time I was told we were filming a "fun, girls night out" but the episode was ACTUALLY about a sad, bitter woman confronting me about being too thin. #notcool

    9. Any advice for aspiring models?
Sure, the #1 piece of advice I will give to aspiring models is **you cannot take criticism personally. We get paid to be criticized and judged by anyone and everyone. You have to think of your image like a tool you use to make money. If your agency tells you your skin isn't presentable- go to a dermatologist, do what you need to do to fix it. If you're told you're too skinny or too thick, you CAN'T let it make you depressed. Just realize your image is your tool, and you can't let it get you down. There will ALWAYS be criticism and mean comments out there, but that's part of the job... a BIG part of the job. xx

    Interview with Lucia!

BIOI am seventeen years of age and a fashion, commercial, and portrait photographer based in Sydney, Australia. I started taking pictures when I kind of realized that I needed to start documenting in some way or another. I don’t have the best memory, and there have been many moments when I’ve been too scared to blink because I know I just may let go unintentionally of something that later on, I will miss. Since then, I have developed a larger than life passion for it and it has led me to working with incredible artists from all around the world.

You are such a young talent; how did you get into photography?

I got into photography about two years ago. It was summer time, I had newly received a camera, and I just thought it would be interesting to start experimenting and photographing my life. I took pictures of my friends, and we would play with styling. It started and built from there, and I've quickly grown such a love for it since.

How would you describe your style of photography?
I always say I shoot “fashion, faces, life and love” because they are the most special to me. To be honest, I still feel like I’m trying to find my style, and it’s definitely been more defined than when I first started, which was then all about experimenting and seeing what I liked and what I don’t like, what worked and what didn’t. Right now though, all I like want to do is capture spontaneity and realness.

What kind of things inspire you?
Strangers on the streets, energy, and new places tend to inspire me the most. I’m very fascinated with human habits, and I get an incredible amount of ideas just being in a different environment. New York is pretty responsible for a lot of ideas in my head, some still in the progress of transferring to photographs!

Lucia, how did you hear about LuLu*s?
I’ve heard about Lulu*s a while back ago while I was hardly into my teenage years from a magazine that listed their personal favourite online stores.

What made you want to work with LuLu*s specifically?
One of the things I love about the store is that it’s got so much variety and that allows endless concepts to come into mind. Everything from the clothes and the atmosphere of LuLu*s stood out to me.

What kind of vibe did you want to capture with this photo shoot?
I wanted to have the vibe that Lulu*s already has, which is all about youth and having fun. We shot in a house belongs to a friend of a friend one morning and the location, with a wall shelf of books and beautiful furniture, helped significantly to establish the collegiate theme of the photo shoot.

What would be your dream photo shoot?
My dream shoot would be more of documentary style, no makeup, no pressure, just following a few friends running away and having fun during the summer. I’d always love to have a bonfire on the beach or just go on a drive out of town and just photograph every day life and the strangers we meet along the way.

Thanks so much for working with us, Lucia!

Make sure to stop by her site for more pretty pictures and endless inspiration!

  • Erin Wasson in Elle France June 2011

In a stunning editorial for Elle France, model Erin Wasson worked with photographer Fred Meylan to create beautiful bohemian images.  Featuring denim, leather fringe and maxis, this shoot was exactly what I needed for some midweek inspiration. Take a look below for some of the best images!

I love the rustic background with the contrast of a maxi and tousled hair.

70's bohemian style with a perfect oversized cardigan and hat.

I love leather shorts paired with a vintage tee. So perfect for summer.

Fringed pants that only Wasson could pull off! In a vintage car with red interior, this is definitely a rad picture!

  • Pull & Bear Spring 2011 Campaign

When I came across the Spring 2011 Campaign for Pull and Bear on Fashion Gone Rogue, I got so excited that I just couldn't wait to share it!

The soft and ethereal vibe of these pictures is so breathtaking! This Spanish line is being added to my list of favorites! I can't wait to see what they do next!

I love the use of patterns and stunning natural backgrounds. How perfect is that floral crown?

Lots of lace and soft muted tones, perfect for Spring!

This is such a great shot! I love the barely there makeup with flower petals adorning the face. So conceptual, yet it somehow doesn't seem over the top.

Make sure to check out this amazing campaign and don't skip the video! It's absolutely amazing, like the perfect summer actualized in a short film. It reminds me of summers in Chico, relaxing in the park and swimming in the creek. Enjoy!

After being signed to Elite in 2010, this young beauty's career has quickly taken off. • Space Age Androgyny: Andrej Pejic in Dazed and Confused Magazine

In an amazing, conceptual shoot for the April 2011 edition of Dazed and Confused Magazine, model Andrej Pejic is transformed into a colorful and metallic work of art.

Rejic has quickly become the face of fashion androgyny with the ability to embody beauty of any form. This space age interpratation is no different. With geometric shapes and bursts of light and color, this editorial is one of my current favorites.

Robbie Spencer, the magazine's fashion editor, was the mastermind behind the styling of the shoot, using iconic fashion labels such as Lanvin, Vivienne Westwood and Miu Miu

Many talented individuals came together to complete this other-worldly set of amazing images. Contributors include spectacular makeup by Ayami Nishimura and prop work by the visionary Gary Card. With photography by Anthony Maule, a well repected young trailblazer, the images come together to create a visual fairytale of a land far away. Make sure to pick up the April 2011 issue of Dazed and Confused Magazine to have this amazing editorial all to yourself.
