  • The Met Costume Institute Gala and One Shouldered Dresses!!

One of the best galas of the year (or at least one of our personal favorite events) took place this Monday! This fashionista-filled event was none other than the Costume Institute Gala that takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

One major trend that we couldn’t get over was all of the one shoulder dresses. Now this is one trend Lulus.com really loves!

The appeal in the one shouldered dresses is the one shoulder peeking out and showing off while the other side swoops elegantly across your body to one side.

Left, Blake Lively wears a Marchesa blue one shouldered dress, and on the right, Melissa George wears a rusted yellow J. Mendel. Both ladies looked ravishing while walking down the red carpet.

Below are two of Lulu*s one shoulder dresses, and we have many more! Take a look, I'm sure you'll love them too!

On the left is the Cerise Blossom Dress and on the right it is the I Feel Pretty Dress in Aqua!

  • Jillian Clare from Miss Behave!

Jillian Claire wearing a Lulus.com dressJillian Clare is a hot-rising 17-year-old actress most recognized from her award-winning performance as Abby Deveraux on NBC's Days of Our Lives. She is currently leading the cast of a web series and social network called Miss Behave, set to premiere in June, about real teens with everyday issues.

Not only is she an actress, she is a LuLu*s fasionista as well! Whether she is on the red carpet, filming, or out and about around town, Jillian is always spotted wearing designs from Lulus.com.

In the picture at left, Jillian looked fabulous on the red carpet wearing our Always Have Paris Dress at the Multicultural Harmony Benefit Gala on March 13. Below, Jillian is workin' it in a stylish outfit paired with the Sun City Handbag by Melie Bianco.

Below is a photo from Day 1 of filming Miss Behave

We were lucky enough to interview Jillian Clare to find out about her style, career and inspiration.

What is your favorite thing about Lulus.com clothes and accessories?

I love being able to go onto LuLu's and choose an entire outfit! Plus, with LuLu's, I know that I can trust the fabric, the sizes and the overall quality of the pieces.

Do you have a favorite item on Lulus.com?

I recently went on the site and fell in love with the Jeffrey Campbell Buckles Leather Hardware Heel! They're pretty incredible! I'm also completely in love with the Black Eyed Pea Minidress. I might just have to order those! =)

How were you introduced to Lulus.com?

I found out about LuLu*s through my new web series, Miss Behave. All the girls' wardrobes were provided by Lulus.com! Let's just say when it came time to take off my wardrobe, I was very reluctant. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to wear those outfits outside of the show!

How would you describe your style in regards to hair, make-up and clothes? Is there any particular decade that you draw inspiration from?

I'm constantly changing how I do my eye make-up. One day, I'll go all out with smokey eyes and black eye shadow and lots of liner, and the next, it'll be very simple light eye shadow and just a little mascara. I'm also really into anything vintage and try to find pieces from the 40's and 50's that I can modernize a little.

What are some wardrobe basics that you can't live without?

My leather jacket! I wear it everywhere. It's become a huge staple in my wardrobe. I've also fallen into the white v-neck and black skinny jeans trend. It's simple and always looks good!

What fashion trends have you seen recently that you love?

The 2 finger rings! It's such a cool concept and they look incredible! Instead of wearing multiple rings and having it look a bit over the top, you can just wear your 2 finger ring! It's a statement without being too much. I also love all the ruffle collars I've been seeing; very girly and fun!

What is one fashion item you splurge on when it comes to completing your look?

My heels! I'm obsessed when it comes to shoes, especially my heels. I went through my closet and counted how many I had one day and lets just say it ran upward of 80 pairs!

How did you get into acting?

Believe it or not, my singing is what got me into acting! When I was 6 years old, I put on a 12-song show all by myself at the local state and county fairs in Washington state. After one of my performances, a talent scout had asked my parents and I if I had ever tried acting, which hadn't even crossed our minds. My parents signed me up for an acting class and I fell in love with it! I still sing but acting has taken over my life! I really can't imagine doing anything else.

Has being an actress and being in the spotlight made you more aware of clothes that flatter your body?

Absolutely! With all the fittings you have to do when you book a job, it becomes clear what your body can and can't pull off. For instance, I know that most jumpers won't look good on me because of my height and I know that strapless dresses look great because of my shoulders. (They're not too boney and they're not boxy looking.) I think you just have to experiment to truly know how your body handles certain pieces. Not all clothes are gonna look good on you, unless you're Marilyn Monroe, of course.

What do you love most about your job?

I love the fact that I get to go to work and not really feel like I'm working, because I'm truly doing what I love! I love getting in the mindset of someone completely different than me and be able to express how they feel and let that character take over. It's such an exhilarating process.

How has your style changed throughout your career?

Well, since I've grown up in the business, as I mature, so does my fashion sense. I'm getting into the phase of wearing things that can really show off my body while still being really classy.

Are there any celebrities that you draw fashion inspiration from? Who is your biggest fashion influence currently?

I love Sienna Miller's style. I read an interview once where she was asked how she chose this certain dress she wore to an event, and she said she just found it in her closet and threw it on. She pulls off that "I don't really care" look while still looking incredible. She also tends to wear dark colors and that's definitely something I lean towards also. Kim Kardashian is a huge influence lately. I love how she combines sexy and sophisticated!

    Who are your favorite designers?

I've always loved Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana and Marc Jacobs! I've also recently become a fan of Zac Posen!

What is a fashion must-have for Spring and Summer?

Your classic short shorts. I've noticed that's a huge must-have on all the hot must-haves lists that have come out lately!

  • Red Carpet Ready!

Between The Hurt Locker taking home best picture and Best Actress winner, Sandra Bullock, giving one of the best and funniest acceptance speeches, I could have gone to bed happy after catching the Oscars last night. Yet the red carpet also put on a great show, sporting many pieces that were daring and inventive in all the right ways. Here are just a couple of my favorite looks:

    Show Stopping Skirts

Love it or hate it, most couldn't keep their eyes off of Zoe Saldana's ruffled lavender hemline. Another head turner was Vera Farmiga's sculpted waves of fuchsia which fanned perfectly down the skirt. Also, soft and flowy ruffled tiers of fabric looked feminine and romantic on stars like Elizabeth Banks.

    Dazzling Details

Sandra Bullock's bejeweled bodice was so elegant, especially paired with her perfect red pout and sleek hair. Charming Carey Mulligan truly pulled off the whimsical detailing of forks and keys on her black strapless Prada. I loved it, and hey, it makes a great conversation piece!

    Pretty Prints

Rachel McAdams sported a strapless beauty that looked like a breathless watercolor painting while Maggie Gyllenhaal looked cool, chic and stylishly put together in her vibrant printed bodice.

  • Grammy Style Favs

Hey, ladies (and whatever gents happen upon our blog)! We have new interns, and they are going to be doing a weekly blog! They split up this week to explore the fashion trends at the GRAMMYS! Read below to see some of their favorite dresses, celebs, and trends. (You'll even see how to find one for yourself!)

    *********

Hey guys, this is Torrey and Michelle and we are two of the new Lulus.com interns. We will both be posting weekly blogs covering topics we find interesting. Check out our blogs and comment to let us know what you think. Hope to hear any comments you have!

Any performer's dream is to one day walk the red carpet of the Grammy Awards. The two most important things for any artist at the Grammys is their acceptance speech and their outfit.

Out of all the dresses that walked down the red carpet at the 2010 Grammy Awards, the elegant backless style worn by Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Rihanna were some of our favorites.  We feel that all three of these artists pulled their gowns off perfectly, showing their back but still showing class.

Like always, Taylor swift looks beautiful in an off the shoulder backless blue gown from Kaufman Franco.

Katy Perry shows off her elegance in a backless beige and gold gown from Zac Posen.

Rihanna looks stunning in a high neck, open back white gown detailed with feathers from Elie Saab Haute Couture.

    *********

Hey everyone! What’s up, my name is Lauren and I am a new intern at LuLus.com. I’ll be doing weekly blogs as well so I hope you guys enjoy!

I thought Keri Hilson looked amazing in this dress by Dolce & Gabbana, she definitely was my favorite of the night. Fergie also looked gorgeous wearing a design by Emilio Pucci.

Jennifer Hudson looked stunning on the red carpet in a dress from Victoria Beckham’s Spring 2010 collection. A similar look at Lulus, the Bye Bye Baby Dress [sold out!] makes a statement with a slim waistline and powerful shoulders.

  • Fast and Glamorous: The Simple Chignon

If you're like me, rainy weather has you neglecting any attempts at hair styling and sporting a variety of caps all week instead. Now, while hats can be fun, it's nice to change up your look every now and then. But while there's so much moisture in the air, I find it pointless to spend time blow-drying and straightening when it's all going to end up a frizzy mess.

That's where the classic chignon comes in extremely handy.

A low bun pulled to the side of the head, a chignon is a simple style that can be as glammed up or as casual as you wish. I prefer it loosely gathered and pulled slightly off center. Add any clips or accessories, red lipstick, and those rainy days won't look so daunting after all.

  • RED Hot Emmys

Last nights Emmys was the first time I had watched the award show and actually enjoyed it -- mostly due to Neil Patrick Harris, but also largely due to the excellent fashion! Really, there were no major bombs. Sure, some missteps, but nothing so ... pronouncedly shocking, like Bjork's swan designed by Marjan Pejoski from the 2001 Oscars.

What we did see? RED! Lovely dresses from Jennifer Morrison, Debra Messing, Sigourney Weaver and Carrie Preston.

But the red dress of the evening definitely goes to Blake Lively. Fantastic shape, dangerouly low plunge... makes me think of our own Lady Danger in Red Dress [sold out!]. Wow! Fashion never looked so hot.

  • Fashion Recap: VMA Awards

Whether or not you caught the VMA Awards last night, chances are you heard plenty about it. Drama or no drama, some of our favorite musicians and celebs brought their game to the dance floor, showcasing some of the latest styles, and always daring to be different.

Taylor Swift bejewed in a flowy gown. Alicia Keys rockin' the sequins.

Beyonce was a lady in red while Katy Perry kept it sassy in silver.

And....sometimes you get caught looking not so different...

Pink and Shakira laughed it off, though, and made the best of a funny situation.

    Who wore your favorite look?

  • Hot Trend: Bib Necklaces

Though the name may sound funny, bib necklaces are making quite the mark in the fashion world. Layered, chunky and boasting plenty of bling, these necklaces can make even the most bland of outfits effortlessly glamourous.

The trick to making this look work is to keep the neckline as simple as possible. A neckline that frames the necklace or serves as a flat, subtle background works best. Check out these bib necklaces found on the stars, the runway and on our models here at Lulus.com!

  • Steal the Style: Angelina Jolie's Black Maxi Dress

Angelina Jolie is known for her classic yet daring fashion choices on the red carpet. And even in her down time as a busy mom, this sultry star manages to maintain a super fresh and posh look.

The simple yet fabulous black maxi dress she's wearing below shares a lot in common with our new Karlie Kloss Dress. This floor length beauty has removable straps and a gorgeous ruffled hem for a stylish look day or night. Angelina approved!
