  • A Few of My Favorite Things...

I thought I would share with you guys my favorite new buys for each week. Most of them are beauty products and face washes (since that's what I'm addicted to), but anything that strikes my fancy is up for game. I'll let you know why I love each item and have added it to my routine. (P.S. I bought all these items with my own money and was not paid for my opinion)

First up - Purity Made Simple, One-Step Facial Cleanser.

There's nothing worse than finding leftover foundation hanging out on your freshly washed face. This cleanser takes care of that, leaving you with pure, supple skin. My skin is very dry, and this does leave a slight "tightness," but as long as you follow up with moisturizer it shouldn't be a problem.

    Number 2 - Luna & Larry's Coconut Bliss Non-Dairy Dessert

My sweet tooth seems to go crazy when the weather warms up, and Coconut Bliss really hits the spot. I love that they use Agave sweetener which is gentler on your system. Plus, the coconut milk adds an unbelievable richness.

Number 3 - Maybelline Great Lash, Clear Lash and Brow Gel,

I can't believe how long I've gone without this product in life! Keeping unruly brows in place is no longer an issue. I also love using this gel after regular mascara. It helps separate the lashes and add a little gloss.

Number 4 - DERMAdoctor KP Duty Body Scrub

I bought this scrub last summer and am getting it again! For those annoying dry skin bumps of the winter, this scrub kicks major butt. This is also great for creating a smooth canvas the day before a self tan.

Share with me one of your favorite things!!

  • Jennifer Garner in "The Invention of Lying"

I couldn't stop laughing as I watched The Invention of Lying for the first time last night.

Starring Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner (not to mention Jonah Hill, Tina Fey and Rob Lowe), the film is set in a world where there is no such thing as a lie. Everyone tells the absolute truth of what they are thinking and gives their real opinion, no matter how harsh it may be. This poses a problem for down-and-out Mark Bellison (played by Gervais), who feels even more inadequate after meeting the beautiful Anna McDoogles (played by Garner).

Jennifer Garner was particularly charming in this role. A successful business woman in the dating world, her character is both sweet and extremely sensible. Though a kind person, she has the same shallow thoughts that many of us do when it comes to viewing others. Her main struggle is to learn to look beyond "appearances" in order to find true happiness.

I definitely recommend this film, which though a comedy, has plenty of down-to-earth tender moments and makes you think twice about writing someone off based on first impressions.

  • Urban Decay in Fabulous Shades

This weekend I discovered a marvelous eye shadow that I can't help but tell everyone about, almost to the point of annoyance. I've already called my sister twice telling her how much I like the Urban Decacy Ammo Eyeshadow.

"Sis," I said. "The color matching has a great egde to it by covering well with a great shimmer."

"I know," my sister huffs over the phone, "I was the one who bought it ... now give it back!"

Oops! Sorry, little sis, but I'm keeping this one.

  • "Whip It" Good!

As I sat in the theater Sunday night, I secretly hoped this movie would be good just so I could use the witty title above. However, Whip It far surpassed my expectations. It was AWESOME!

Directed by Drew Barrymore in her directorial debut, and starring Ellen Page of Juno, this movie had every chance of becoming something special, and it sure did.

I can't even begin to describe how much I loved this movie, but I'm going to do my best.

Ellen Page plays Bliss Cavendar, a small-town girl stuck in a world of beauty pageants, dumb high school pranks and a family that doesn't understand her. Life trucks along until a shopping trip to Austin, where Bliss is struck by a group of girls who skate happily past, giving out leaflets for a roller derby competition.

Bliss finds a way to attend the competition with the help of her best friend, Pash, played by Alia Shawkat. The story takes off from there, as Bliss befriends a team of hippie punk girls who aren't afraid to take a punch.

I'd never really thought about roller derby as a sport before, and at first, I cringed at the many falls, cracked ribs and bloody noses involved with the game. By the end of the movie, however, I became swept away by the exhilaration of the race and even felt like breaking out my old pair of skates and giving them a go again.

Ellen Page gives an amazing performance and is steadily becoming one of my new favorite actresses. Drew Barrymore is adorable in this film and did a great job both in front of and behind the camera. Even though some aspects of the plot are fairly predictable, it's entertaining and touching enough to have you leaving the theater feeling happy and empowered.

So what are you waiting for? It's time to Whip It. :)

  • Movie Review: Julie & Julia

A movie that cherishes a love of food doesn't come along all that often. Therefore, it's a good time to appreciate the delightful flick, Julie & Julia -- a movie that will not only have you raving, but your stomach growling.

While this movie is about food -- and I mean a lot of delicious food -- it is also about self discovery.

Based on two true stories, Julie Powell, played by Amy Adams, is a lowly cubicle worker who can only looked forward to depressing call after call in her frustrating job. The thing that makes her happy is cooking and knowing that she can come home night after night, follow a recipe and create something tasty.

Investing in her love of cuisine, Julie is inspired by her husband to write a blog about cooking, but not just any blog: a year-long cooking challenge to make every recipe in Julia Child's famous cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking.

This is where Julia Child's story comes in -- the Julia Child before she became famous. This Julia, played by Meryl Streep, was a bored housewife in Paris. In a desire to use her talent and excitement for learning, she signed up for a challenging French cooking class. Here, Julia discovered her talent in the kitchen, as did those around her, all while her ever-supporting and ever-adoring husband (played by Stanley Tucci) stood proudly by her side.

Julie and Julia's stories meet in an interesting way that you'll just have to see for yourself :)

Ultimately, this story is about finding happiness and joy in simple pleasures. It definitely made me want to slow down, eat a few less take-out meals, invite a few friends over and cook a fantastic meal.

    Mmmmm....what's for dinner?

  • My Favorite Foundation

It's summertime, and the livin' is easy...and humid. So why slather on a thick foundation when you can get great coverage and a gorgeous glow from my favorite foundation: bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation.

Bare Minerals has become quite popular in the last couple years, offering a great line of mineral powder foundations. These foundations are more like a cream than a powder once settled. You simply buff it onto your face with a kabuki foundation brush and the product melts with your skin, giving you very natural coverage that you can build on during the day. I like how it lets my skin breathe and doesn't feel heavy.

You do have to be careful how much you apply, however, or you can look way overdone and too powdery. It's best to start off with a little on the brush and build on top of that if you need more coverage.

Simply put: it's healthy for your skin, its easy, and it works. Give it a try and let it become your favorite foundation! You can purchase what you need at Sephora, Ulta, or the Bare Minerals store.
