  • Prada Presents: Il Palazzo. A Palace of Role Play

I know we normally talk about exclusively women clothes here at Lulu's, but Miuccia Prada's AW 2012 Menswear show was too good to pass up. Plus it allows me to report on menswear, which I love almost as much as womenswear. Almost.

Prada exclaimed from backstage that this show was "A parody of male power." She made sure nothing was as it appeared. The formal clothes were cut from denim, what appeared to be mohair was really cotton. The baroque patterns on the pieces are composed of football helmets or Native American headdresses. Each look more impressive than the next.

The piece de resistance came at the end of the show, when Miuccia paraded out actors. And not your Channing Tatum, chiseled abs type. No she brought out the strong brooding types. The award winning types (No offense, Channing, but, you know). From Emile Hirsch, to Jamie Bell, to Willem Dafoe, each played their part as the walked down the runway.

Tim Blank, of Style.com, described it best:

"If you accept that actors play archetypes, then each of them represented a particular kind of man. It wasn't only the accompanying soundtrack of Michael Nyman's music from The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover that cued Tim Roth as a gangster or Adrien Brody as a dandy."

Did yout enjoy this runway show as much as I did? Or are you like "eh" about menswear. Let me know! xoxo
  • Milan Fashion Week Fall 2011: Dsquared² Channels True Grit on the Runway

If you've been dreaming of cowboys and the great West since seeing True Grit then Dean and Dan of Dsquared² are about to make your day!

Dsquared² won me over at Milan fashion week with this tribute to American pioneers and more likely, Hailee Steinfeld's role in the latest Western, True Grit.

Although not breathtakingly beautiful, or feminine, the catchy part of this collection is that it is simply wearable. Take away the bulky layering and the pieces are totally practical. Expect menswear inspired layering for fall 2011 in a big way, and get yourself a great oversized and floppy hat ASAP.

Arizona Muse opened the show wearing an adorable deep-blush colored leather jacket paired with brown gloves, a black floppy hat, killer-pieced jeans, a studded belt, and a pair of white lace up boots.

To end the show Dean and Dan used their signature move by doing yet another take on a women's version of a tuxedo. This time however, it was a maxi dress version of a tux from the olden days complete with a black bow tie.

  • Fall 2011 Beauty: Vera Wang

Aside from all the amazing clothes, my other favorite part of seeing the various designer collections each season is checking out the beauty concepts debuted at each show. So far, one of my favorites has been Vera Wang. Cruising through Style.com for all the latest shows as they come out is one of the easiest ways to take a behind-the-scenes look at the newest and hottest beauty trends for the coming season. With a modern spin on the ever popular smokey eye, the team at Clé de Peau Beauté smudged beautiful shades of soft charcoal and what looks to be hints of camel and violet. It is ultra-feminine, yet still strong and powerful with the focus of the entire look being the eye.

A soft peach lip compliments the deep and smokey eye without overpowering the look.

This is a look I will definitely be trying out this fall!

    Will you?

  • A Fresh Look at Spring Makeup: Inspiration from Smashbox Cosmetics

This spring I am excited by all the beautiful neutrals that are popping up everywhere. Lace, chiffon, and other soft fabrics have been featured in every imaginable shade of nude, blush, and taupe. This fresh bloom of femininity has me thinking:  what does this mean for makeup? A while back, my questions were answered with the Smashbox Spring 2011 Collection, In Bloom. Smashbox, as you know, is one of my all time favorite brands, known for highly pigmented colors and beautiful artistry. This is an ultra-pretty lineup of shades embodying the fresh feeling of spring. I am in love with the soft and subtle greys, muted lilacs, and dewy cheeks.  This is a look that anyone can rock; how far you go is up to you!

Here are two of the featured looks, Grey Glam on the left and Petal on the right. I am especially in love with the lilac look of Petal. It's so sultry without looking like you have on a face-full of makeup. It accentuates the eyes, and the light is hitting all the right places on the face.  You can always tone it down or kick it up a notch depending on your mood. These looks have a fierce femininity to them without being overpowering. I was so inspired and excited by this collection that I wanted to share some of my favorite tips to create a soft spring look. Incorporating some Smashbox was a no-brainer, and I have also included some other favorite standout products that work so well for me.

Brand new and highly anticipated is the Philosophy Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer. Philosophy has been a long time favorite for those of us serious about skin care. Based off their bestseller Hope in a Jar, an award winning daily moisturizer, this tinted moisturizer embodies the same qualities we love so much in the original. Now in a tinted formula, this little tube of joy is loaded with antioxidants and armed with an SPF 20 to keep you looking naturally beautiful.

Looking refreshed and alert is hard to achieve at 7 AM. Unless you are a naturally ethereal goddess and look amazing in the early hours of the morning, this will be your new secret weapon! My favorite high lighter to date, Benefit's High Beam, is one of those products that is hard to live with out once you try it. This lumizing cream adds the perfect highlight needed to achieve that dewy, healthy look. Dab it along the tops of your cheekbone and blend out towards the temple, swipe lightly along the top of your nose, and a dab on your your chin giving you the perfect glow. Don't worry about looking like a disco ball! This product is just glowy enough with out having too much shimmer or sparkle. Be advised that a little goes a long way and blending is key!  Luckily, it is rich and creamy enough to blend easily.

Cream blushes are the best thing to use when trying to achieve a fresh spring glow! More moisturizing than a powder blush, cream formulas are easy to apply with your fingers and blend out very naturally. My new favorite is the In Bloom Creamy Cheek Duo from Smashbox in their new spring line, In Bloom, mentioned above. I love the peach and deep pink combo. Natural flush? Yes please!

This is the grand daddy of eye shadow paletttes! Introducing the fabulous, the one, and only Smashbox In Bloom Eyeshadow Palette! This amazing set has 10 soft shimmer and matte shadows to create a myriad of combinations this spring. If you buy one beauty product this season make sure you snatch up this pallete before it is too late. You will not be dissapointed! Imagine the possibilities!

An amazing mascara has no season, and the Dior favorite that has been making the beauty world go 'round for some time is Diorshow. Runway inspired and crafted to create the most dramatic and thick lashes, this mascara is a favorite of pros and makeup fanatics around the world. With spring makeup being softly smokey in flower-inspired shades, a great lash line will be very important to draw attention to and open up those eyes! This product will take your lashes to the next level. While not exactly the price of your typical drugstore mascara, it is definitely worth every penny!

Last but definitely not least is the oh-so-popular Kiehl's Lip Balm #1. Kiehl's has been around since 1851 so you better believe they know how to make a good lip balm! This little tube will have you addicted you from day one, so watch out! Perfectly smooth and moisturizing, this lip balm leaves the slightest shine to complete your spring look! Stick this in your pocket or purse and trust me, don't leave home without it!

Now that you have all the necessary ingredients to create the face of Spring 2011, you need to get shopping to find some to-die-for spring wardrobe necessities!

  • New Trend: Denim on Denim

Denim is like the comfort food of clothing. Rare is the girl without a pair of blue jeans in her closet, and no matter what sundress I wear, my blue denim crop jacket always seems like the perfect companion.

But denim on denim was a place I dared not venture. That is, until I saw the trend step stylishly on the Spring 2010 runway.

One trick to pulling off the trend is to mix up the washes and textures. Pair a distressed jean with a crisp jacket or a light, chambray top with dark blue skinnies.

I love the two looks pictured above from Ralph Lauren and D&G. For even more inspiration, check out the street stylin' bloggers below found on Lookbook.nu!

How would you sport the trend?

  • Made In Italy: MISSONI

"Color is a way of expressing light, not so much as a physical phenomenon but as that light which exists in the mind of the artist."
    -Henri Matisse

Kate Moss in Missoni topColor, and the exploration of it in all of its abstract forms, is the bread and butter of the famous Missoni Family of Italy. The Missoni fashion house and its colorful history were founded in the province of Varese, Italy, where a factory was founded around scarves and embroidered fabrics.

After the first runway show in 1958, the decorative patterns -- including multiple colors, stripes, abstracts, shapes, and florals -- became the staple of the Missoni House. The utilization of various textiles, such as silk, rayon, linen, cotton, and wool, is another signature Missoni attribute.

For Fall 2010 Fashion Week in Milan, Missoni showed a variety of crop tops, knit wrap skirts, and blanket-like coats that had pin closures. What was really interesting about Missoni's collection was that the pieces were totally versatile. The pieces could be worn reversed, with the back changed to the front, as well as being able to be pulled up or down in any direction.

My favorites from this collection were the the big wool jackets and wraps accessorized with sun glasses. The wraps were draped to hang and frame the beautiful faces of the models in just the right way.

  • Favorites From Fashion Week

Fashion Week is one of the biggest events in the fashion industry, as it allows designers to show off their new collections on the runway, and gives buyers a chance to see all upcoming trends. Jill Stuart has been one of my fashion designers for a while and so far for Fall 2010 fashion week, Jill Stuart is once again my favorite.

Moving away from her risque Spring collection of short dresses with studs and spandex, Jill Stuart's Fall collection is full of dark, almost goth looking boyfriend jackets worn over a variety of tight dresses, shorts, and high-waisted trousers.

Take a look at the pictures above for quick peek of Stuart's Fall collection for next year!
  • From the Runway to the Red Carpet!

New York Fashion Week Fall 2010 has begun!

During this week, Bryant Park transforms into a sea of white tents, and the fashion industry gathers to await this season's runway shows. Designers from all around the world come to show off their latest collections.

So far, Monique Lhuillier's Asian-warrior inspired collection is, without a doubt, my favorite collection. As in all of Lhuillier's collections, there were a handful of beautiful evening gowns, and the two below were my favorites. These elegant, form fitting, strapless gowns would look amazing on any Hollywood actress walking the red carpet at the Oscars. I love how both of these gowns have rosettes that taper down the base of each dress.

  • Tribute to a King

The first time I fell in love with McQueen's designs was his Fall 2006 show. This show began with eerie 18th century inspired gowns and closed with a ghost of Kate Moss floating and dancing in mid-air in the middle of the runway. I had to do one more tribute to the great Alexander McQueen and this is just one great show to remember him by!

The entire runway show from backstage to the catwalk is shown below!

  • RIP the Enfant Terrible of Fashion

"For everyone left behind, there will eventually be consolation, however scant right now, in a body of work whose power will never die." Tim Blanks

Today the fashion and art world mourns the loss of the renowned, acclaimed, fashion genuis Alexander McQueen. From Savile Row, as an apprentice tailor, to LVMH Moët Hennessey Louis Vuitton, McQueen established his career as a fashion designer in all the most awe-inspiring ways.

There are so many things that can be said, and there are so many things that we will dearly miss about waiting on the edges of our seats every season for a new jaw-dropping show from McQueen. McQueen's influence in fashion was viral, and I have personally never made a piece or drawn out a collection without some direct influence or inspiration from McQueen.

I could ramble on about McQueen for days, however, I believe today should be a day to remember and make note of all of your favorite McQueen fashion moments... mine being his latest show, the Spring 2010 Plato's Atlantis. So take the time and ruffle through the archives of the wondrous worlds that McQueen created through fashion design.

"McQueen represented the kind of volatile imagination that transforms clothes into a cultural tapestry, intensely personal therapy and political provocation." Washington Post
