  • Trend Alert: Phantom Heels

Chunky, stiletto, cone, kitten... I thought we'd seen it all. Until, of course, there was nothing at all to see! The heelless platform, or phantom heel as I've affectionately come to call it, is no longer a magical foot-piece reserved for the theatrical likes of Lady Gaga or Nicki Minaj. The cool curved back has been popping up all over, from red carpet to sidewalk, and not just as a crazy Halloween gag. The phantom heel has made it mainstream, so stock up on a pair of your own!

I'm pretty sure Daphne Guinness was born in these....

If you're looking for real world inspiration, then check out Eteclea. This girl rocks the phantoms like it's nothing.

  • Prada Takes High Fashion to the Highway

I'm not gonna lie, I've been to a few hot rod shows in my day, so when I saw Prada's Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear collection, the little girl in the rumble seat inside me let out a little squeal of glee. Finally, fashion that my dad might even appreciate....

All the initial hype I read was totally shoe-centric, and they deserve it, but hello! Look at how great everything is!

I love how she incorporated the classic car motif in so many ways, yet makes the traditionally masculine concept seem so feminine and sweet. Think muscle car-meets-pin-up, with a little fifties housewife mixed in. Prints, micro prints, racing stripes, flames, and full-on hot rod decals and embroidery... Oh my! And the color palette! Who wants to hop in my '57 Chevy with me and speed on down to the malt shop? (No, I don't actually have a '57 Chevy, or know where you'd find a malt shop nowadays).

But really, let's get back to the shoes, am I right? Spoilers, wings, chrome, flames, and even tail lights, plus the occasional bow or jewels? I could gush for hours.

  • LuLu*s Reads: Christian Louboutin (The Book!)

Ah, Christian Louboutin. He just gets us. Now, an invitation for you to get to know the genius behind those ever-coveted red lacquered soles. Christan Louboutin by Christian Louboutin is 304 pages of leather bound, shoe-lover's gold.

Confession: No, I haven't actually read it, nor had the privilege to even hold it in my hands. Though, I'll admit, the $150 price tag is beginning to seem like more and more of a bargain as my research forges onward. We're talking a five-piece foldout binding, a pop-up(!), and never-before-seen photographs spanning the life and work of the most talented and respected shoe designer of our time (or ever? Yeah, ever).

In addition to all the bells and whistles, just listen to what these six chapters have to offer (paraphrased/pretty much copied from the publisher):

Chapter 1: Louboutin's biography, complete with his early creations and influences illustrated with many never-before-seen photos from his personal archives.

Chapter 2: Features the Louboutin boutiques around the world, showcasing the varied and extravagant interior designs and displays.

Chapter 3: "20 years of design" highlights his shoe designs from over the years with all-new still-life photography, as well as editorial art.

Chapter 4: Features the spectacular interiors of Louboutin's homes in Paris and Luxor, Egypt, and behind-the-scenes shots from his studios and workshops.

Chapter 5: Focuses on his creative collaborations with David Lynch, of a series called "Fetish," of limited-edition shoes by Louboutin and limited-edition photos by Lynch.

Chapter 6: A complete catalogue raisonne of his work, with photos of all 120 shoe designs. (Did you catch that? Every shoe ever!)

"...So really, the shoe is just a pedastal of the whole body of the woman." (The Late Late Show)

"Well, I have been designing for a lot of stars, I just do not like to name people. Because I sort of take myself very seriously, a little bit like, as a doctor, you know, because a shoe is a bit of an addiction. So as a good doctor, you have your professional secrets." (Net-a-Porter)

    My heart melts.

  • Trend Alert: Smoking Slippers

You don't have to be a shoe writer (it does help though!) to notice that the hot new flat of the season is well, smokin'. (Oh, pardon me. I punned). The smoking slipper is EVERYWHERE, (LuLu*s included!), and it's much less "Hef" and more "her" than you might expect.

Everyone from Christian Louboutin (yes, red soles included), Jimmy Choo, Alexander McQueen, and Rebecca Minkoff to Sam Edelman and Ralph Lauren have contributed to the trend, vamping it up with fun prints and colors, sparkles, spikes, studs, and even skulls. Check out some of the stars spreading the word:

Alexa Chung and SJP working the versatility of Charlotte Olympia's super popular Kitty slipper flats (above).

Clockwise from top left: Nicky Hilton, Olivia Palermo, Ashley Olsen, and Kate Moss

Beyonce goes retro in her "Countdown" video (above).

LOVE how street style superstar Giovanna Battaglia (above) dresses hers up!

    Rihanna's got three different pairs:

And check out how much Anne Hathaway loves her "Rolling Spikes" Louboutins!

Converting flat-haters worldwide, the smoking slipper (I also have a tendency to call them loafers) adds a classic polish to any look, and hits the menswear trend on the nose. I'm particularly loving the dressed up look as an alternative to heels, especially in a more feminine, low cut silhouette.

Now, you know LuLu*s has your back on this one, so check out all of our lovely options!

Confession: I may have taken the Qupid Strip 27 home in Berry, Mustard, and Leopard (sold out), so don't be too shy to splurge!

  • Attention Shoe Lovers! Totally Unique Shoes by Kobi Levi

For all you shoe lovers out there, let's take a moment to appreciate the insanely cool creative designs of Kobe Levi.

Levi is a freelance designer who graduated from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem in 2001. Over the past few years he has been working on developing his men's shoe line in Tel Aviv and in collaborating with international companies all over the world.

Take a look at some of the inventive shoes he makes by hand in his studio:

His inspiration for these unique pieces?
    He says in his blog:

"In my artistic footwear design the shoe is my canvas. The trigger to create a new piece comes when an idea, a concept and/or an image comes to mind. The combination of the image and footwear creates a new hybrid and the design/concept comes to life. The piece is a wearable sculpture. It is "alive" with/out the foot/body..."

What's the craziest shoe in your closet? Favorite shoe?
  • All That Glitters

Hi, my name is Cara and I'm addicted to gold. No kidding, I wear it in almost every outfit I wear. I own six, SIX pairs of all gold shoes. And this is one obsession I won't be getting rid of anytime soon.

I wanted to share the wealth, so to speak, and hand deliver some of my favorite inspirations that keep me going throughout the day when I need my fix of the sparkly goddess known as gold.

First off: can we all just drool together over these Balenciaga pants? Yeah, they are from 2007, but they are still so revelvant. In the words of Liz Lemon "I want to go to there".

(most of the pics via tumblr)

I hope I helped indulge you in all things gold. These just dip into some of my favorite metallic inspired pics. Do any of you have a color you just melt over?

XOXO ladies, and remember to stay gold.
  • The Strong and Stylish Ladies of Iron Man 2

Scarlett Johansson in Iron Man 2When I went to see the new blockbuster hit, Iron Man 2, this weekend, I expected plenty of action packed scenes and stunning graphics to go with it. The last thing I expected was to be struck by the amazing wardrobe choices of the film's two hot leading ladies.

Gwyneth Paltrow returns as Pepper Potts, the smart and faithful assistant to Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr. Scarlett Johansson also joins the cast as Natasha Rushman, Tony's mysterious new assistant who's not only beautiful but kicks major butt.

Scarlett's character is definitely meant to be the sultry type. Her sharp business attire accentuates her feminine features with the utmost of confidence. Her wardrobe also seems to borrow from 1940's retro style with its high waistlines, polished pumps and one leopard print dress to die for!

Gwyneth's wardrobe is a bit more conservative. Black, grey and navy dresses pair with a tasteful boat neckline to keep her look focused on business while remaining both simplistic and lovely.

Have you seen the film? If so, who wore your favorite look?
