  • Fashion Week Has BEGUN: Hot New Trends to Come!!!

    Drum roll....................

Fashion week has officially begun and we'll be reporting on our favorite of the hot new trends to come!

Here are two shows from the Spring 2011 Ready-To-Wear that I actually found quite interesting.

First of all I thoroughly enjoyed breezing through this sandy collection by Jen Kao

My favorite part were the macramé knee high sandal boots.

Overall, I felt as if I had taken a breath of fresh after going through this collection. Despite the fact that she kept it safe with going almost completely colorless I think there are some amazing pieces in this collection.

After the ocean breeze of Jen Kao I needed a little urban jungle color in my life. I looked through the Peter Som collection to get my fix of color.

Som proved that mix-matching patterns is still as hot as monotone colored dresses.

What do you think of these two collections?

Do you go for colorful or monochrome looks?

  • The Cult of Couture

I have just received the ultimate anatomy lesson in the form of Riccardo Tisci's latest Couture Fall 2010 line for Givenchy. Intricacy is an understatement when describing the detail and texture of these pieces.

According to Tim Blank on Style.com Tisci was inspired by "Frida Kahlo and her three obsessions: religion, sensuality, and, given the painter's lifelong battle with spinal pain, the human anatomy." These obsessions were translated by Tisci into Chantilly lace and appliquéd leather encasements of the human body.

Not only was the material of the garments themselves manipulated into forms resembling bones but all the hardware was also made into the shapes of bones. While one dress took a mere 1,600 hours of labor another dress took six months to create!

I've been waiting for a fashion exhibit or show to reveal the backs of the garments and my wish has finally come true. The pieces for this collection were inintimate and important enough that Tisci set up parlors for each dress to be showcased.

"In obsession is born the cult of couture." -Tim Blanks

There was also a portrait (see above) hung of models in the garments that you could walk around and see the back of as well.

  • Milan Fashion Week WRAP UP!

Milan fashion week has ended and we should take a minute (Paris fashion week has already started rolling) to remember some of the "moments" from the shows.

*Prada's "plus-size" models and curvaceously tailored dresses

*Dolce & Gabbana's re-cap of their history ending in an army of girls with no pants on

    *Dsquared² laboratory Frankenstein power dressing

Here is Style.com's recap of the week of fabulous fashion told by fashionista's themselves!

  • The Danseuse: Lou Doillon

I happened upon this enchanting video one day and keep going back to watch it over and over again.

Here, Lou Doillon (a fashionista, designer, and actress), is documented while doing an improv dance (wearing Vanessa Bruno) to the music of Stéphanie Di Gusto. Style.com did an interview with the him and states that Di Gusto created the music inspired by and for Doillon specifically. Di Gusto told Style.com this about working with Doillon:

“There’s something really primal about Lou; she has great freedom, we just left it up to her, and at one point, she just let go".

You can really see an emotional freedom in her that is almost to be envied as she runs, jumps, laughs, cries, and tumbles in this timelessly romantic video.

Note the wonderfully layered and styled clothing. Check out our new pieces and romantically inspired dresses to create a similarly dreamy look for yourself...

  • A SPRING Fling with Jason Wu!!

This spring, women around the world are having a fling with fashion designer Jason Wu. Watch the models walk the catwalk below, in his pieces which were created and sewn to fit each and every model!

Jason Wu's Spring 2010 Collection has inspired the masses to adorn lofty, draped, chiffon dresses everywhere and anywhere. For example (below), this wonderful style dress was first seen on the runway at the Jason Wu show, then on Zoe Saldana at the T Magazine Party on Style.com.

And last, but certainly not least, we have the same style of adorable dress, otherwise known as the Conversation Hearts Dress sold out!], at Lulus.com!!

  • Love Conquers All : Omnia Vincit Amor

There are many new and hot figures flirting with the cameras about town in NYC these days, but there is one in particular that has caught my attention again and again. I have to admit, he was the only Sikh man in all of the "who's who" party pictures on Style.com, and he was in sooooo many of them that I couldn't help wondering who he was.

His name is Waris Ahluwalia, of the House of Waris jewelry company. Waris jewelry could charm almost anyone, gleaming with precious gems and whimisical fantasy. In order to keep up such a business, Waris can be seen working around the clock to keep on the cutting edge of the world of the socialites.

Not only is Waris an amazing jewelry designer, he is also an actor. Waris premiers in the Darjeeling Limited as the train conductor but is also in The Life Aquatic. I LOVE Wes Anderson movies, so this was awesome to find out!

Here, below and to the left, are Waris' earrings. On the right, here's a LuLu*s necklace [sold out!] that is reminiscent of his style and use of gemstones (although our necklace does not actually have real gemstones in it).

  • Fashion Week Update: LONDON

    OH NO BABE!

"Louise Gray is in her groove now, and like a street Pied Piper of London's East End, she's going to be pulling a lot of followers with her."

I love it when I find new designers that give me a crisp look at what could happen in fashion. This season, I have found a few so far, and one of those people is Louise Gray.

Gray is a young designer that has used her textile background in the right way. Gray mixes and matches vibrant and jarring prints and shapes to create a unique Louise Gray girl for Spring 2010! This collection is fresh and refreshing for a time in which many find themselves looking at the ever resourceful and safe ditsy prints mixed with color blocked shift silhouettes.

Creative energy emanates from this collection. Louise Gray used finger paints for makeup and even put fake earring holes in the model's ears. The shoes are a great with a new, and somewhat destructed, twist on the current theme of strappy gladiator shoes. The color palette and patterns created an 80's nostalgia in 21st-century textiles.

The graffiti-sprayed designs, bright colors, and lots of bows brought a bit of familiarity to this funkified look, which Sarah Mower from Style.com says is fitting for "a punchy young girl with a rebellious streak ... [or] like-minded types with an eye for something off-kilter and vivid."
