  • Aloha from Hawai'i! Day 5: Night Rider

    Dear Diary,

After going to North Shore, learning how to surf, and having a BBQ we decided to go on a hike through the Ma'akua gulch to swim in some waterfalls!

We drove to the East side of the island and traversed down a ravine that looked like it was straight out of Jurassic Park. At the end of the hike the walls closed in and we had to climb up a series of waterfalls to get to the end of the gulch! We got to a point where I couldn't continue and had to watch as Mark (our guide) climbed up the face of a slippery 30 foot waterfall.

When we got home, despite being sore, we dressed up and rode our mopeds downtown for some dancing. Here's what the girls wore out!

On Sierra the Made For Maui Dress by Collective Concepts was paired with Claire Fong earrings, a belt, and layered necklaces for an amaizingly simple but glamorous look! I threw in Sierra's moped goggles to make for a fun and funny acessory to top off the look! Molly sports a vintage leather jacket over her shoulder and huge colorful bangles with a dress that I designed.

  • Aloha from Hawai'i! Day 4: Surf Lessons....

    Dear Diary,

Day 4 and the surfing competition has commenced!

Well, ok, ok, I kinda, sorta, learned how to surf today, and despite my pathetic paddling skills I managed to actually get up on the board and then on a wave, which does equal surfing (at least in my world). Now that's not to say that I was awesome at it or anything, but I did manage to get up and that was quite a feat to accomplish for me!

After my feeble attempt at surfing (with the help of my sister's friend Mark) we retired home to a good ol' fashioned BBQ ... plus some super hot surfers ... plus some girls in some absolutely adorable clothes... which equaled an awesome day in O'ahu!

Sierra is wearing an adorable leopard print dress that we had a while back, while Molly sports a beautifully draped vintage dress that I grabbed from the LuLu*s vintage section as soon as I could. (Keep updated on our vintage, as killer pieces come and go before you know it!) Remember to pair dresses with cute belts and killer high heels, and always top your outfit off with a pair of Claire Fong earrings.

  • Aloha from Hawai'i! Day 3: Sunset Beach

    Dear Diary,

Today we ventured over to the North Shore of O'ahu to see what Sunset Beach was all about while a set was breaking. The waves were rolling in so strong that you couldn't get in the water unless you had a surf board, and we watched at least one person break a board in the first half hour of being there.

Although it was dangerous -- the waves are crashing over coral reefs -- there were tons of surfers out. It was pretty awesome watching a legendary surf spot come to life!

Afterwards, we headed home to relax and chill in the hammocks around my sister's house. Here are some pictures of the girls lounging about in one of our favorite Collective Concepts tops, cute vintage clothes, and Claire Fong fringe earrings (once again)!

  • Aloha From Hawai'i! Day 2: Daytime Dreamin'

     Dear Diary,

This is the second update of my five-day visual fashion diary in the sun of O'ahu, Hawai'i, and I'm LOVIN' every second of it. Today we mixed chains, gladiator sandals, leopard prints, and even a gold leaf crown with (yes, yet again) Claire Fong earrings for original but yet totally obtainable style.

In the first shot, on Sierra, we have cut-off shorts with top and necklaces designed by myself. To recreate this look, check out the Guard Rail Denim Shorts (pic below). These shorts would pair nicely with any patterned and textured top, as well as with any of your favorite sandals.

Molly's outfit is all about the Melted Heart Dress (pic below), topped with a few well-chosen accessories. Remember to mix and match prints with textures such as ripped jeans, and top it off with chains in gold for an original masterpiece of style!

  • Aloha from Hawai'i!

    Dear Diary:

Aloha from Hawai'i!! I have traveled ... well, more like hopped across the ocean ... to the island of O'ahu in Hawai'i for spring break.

O'ahu is the most populated island in Hawai'i and boasts both big-city fashion and remote jungle hiking. I am here to visit my sister, who lives on the tip top of St. Louis Heights, overlooking the volcanic Diamond Head crater and the city of Honolulu (the picture to the left is the view from her deck).

The sun that glares off of the beaches and the brilliant blue water around the island has inspired a week of fashionable dressing in the brightly colored patterns that reign so heavily this season.

Here is the first day of a visual fashion diary of my vacation in O'ahu. Photography by Daniel Noval. Modeled by the greatest of gals, Molly and Sierra. And styled by me with clothes from Lulus.com's What's New and Vintage sections, along with a few pieces I designed myself. Accessories range from vintage finds to Claire Fong's wonderful leather, feather and fringe earrings.

You can recreate this look with the Mona Bandeau Dress by Billabong and the Fly South Earrings by Claire Fong.

  • Megan Reports: Scandinavian Fashion Week!

Here's Megan's newest fashion report from abroad!

    Ciao Ciao!
So here is the DL on Copenhagen Fashion Week!

I just got back to Milan, from Denmark, for Copenhagen’s fashion week! They claimed to be the “fashion capitol of Scandinavia” and that claim is rightfully theirs! At the shows, what caught my eye the most, were the interesting knits, and FUR! Sometimes when you hear fur one thinks PETA, or some smelly old thing their grandmother had… Well, in Copenhagen, they totally know how to rock both the real and faux furs! The fur stole is most definitely making big noise, as well as fur collars and cuffs!

From the shows that I saw the general color pallets for fall are: black, cool grays, reds, beige… Below are the highlights from some of the shows and a little bit about my observation of the collection!

     FIN

This wonderful collection was full of effortless draping, they even showed a few of their draped dresses on men! And believe it or not, it still looked amazing! To top it off this is an environmentally and socially responsible company which focuses on developing environmentally friendly textiles for their wonderful designs!

    Wackerhaus

This collection read as comfortable, elegant, modern

    Munthe plus Simonsen

A cold but girly collection graced this runway! You got frills with fringe and leather.

    IVANAhelsinki

This collection is where fashion meets art. There was a strong chain theme throughout this collection. Chains came in funky distorted prints to oversized chains as scarves and necklaces…

If you want to learn more about Scandinavian designers see which you prefer, the Norwegian, Danish, Finnish or Swedish?...

  • New Year's Eve Plans!

The countdown to 2010 is fast approaching, and we can't wait to sip some bubbly, kiss our loved ones and ring in the New Year! Here's what some of us at Lulus.com have planned:

    Wase

(we asked her while being styled for our photo shoot!)

"I'm going to a party with my friends!!!"

    *

    Amy

"I will be celebrating the New Year in the Bahamas, with tropical refreshments, where I won't have to wear any jackets or scarves!"

    *

    Cara

“I’m going to head down to San Francisco for a cocktail party. Then I’m going to Shotwell’s -- this awesome beer and wine bar in the Mission District.”

    *

    Kathleen

“This New Year's Eve is going to be special, because it’s my first year anniversary with my boyfriend. We’re going to dress really fancy and celebrate at the same party where we met last year.”

  • New Year Hot Spot Style: Manuel Antonio National Park

Beach. That is all you need to know about this New Year's adventure.

But not just any beach. If I were to have my New Year's way, I would head to the Manuel Antonio National Park in Costa Rica located south of Quepos on the Pacific Coast, 132 km from San José. Tours through the park are available, including a rain forest walk where you might be so lucky as to spy a sloth!

Coastal Manuel Antonio at night is pitch black, being lit only by the moon -- perfect for some stargazing. Instead of the big count-down at midnight, I would suggest quietly bringing in the New Year with a few good friends or your sweetie on the sands.

With spring coming, this would be a perfect place to try out next season's trends: the Pocket Change Necklace in Gold [sold out!], the Silk Arboretum Maxi Dress, and the Bamboo Poetic 04 Gray and Silver WhipStitched T Thong

  • New Year Hot Spot Style: Venice

    Ahh, Venezia! Que bella!

Every year, this city of bridges and islands gathers in the Palazzo di San Marco for one of the biggest gatherings of New Year's kissers! The Palazzo di San Marco, being the biggest and most culturally relevant square in the city, is a great place to gather with your sweetie and snuggle up until the Campanile di San Marco, or bell tower, strikes midnight.

I would suggest making the effort to stay up to see the sun rise over the Adriatic Sea from the beach island of Lido, where the Auguri di Capodanno sulla spiaggia del Lido di Venezia takes place ... aka jump into the freezing cold water a la Polar Bear Swim.

Venice is high fashion, and the Palazzo di San Marco has no heaters outside. When I was there last year, the stone ground was iced over, so make sure to watch your step and have some cute walking boots like the Bamboo Follie 04 Black Mid Calf Riding Boot in Vegan Leather [sold out!] (great for going over jeans!).

Add a little bit of sparkle with the Kismet Karma Dress  so you don't have to wear any metal on your neck. Again, it will be cold, so the Emma Pillsbury Coat in Soft Pink is a great piece to keep toasty in, and attract the eye of any cute Italians walking by!

Pucker up, New Year's is almost here!

  • New Year Hot Spot Style: Ginza

Not sure about the rest of you fashionistas out there, but right after, "What did you get for Christmas?" the question I'm getting is, "What are you doing for New Years?".

With only four days left, I still have no idea what I will be doing ... but I know what I would like to do! Barring money, travel, and time, here is the first of four awesome New Year's Eve destinations I would love to visit (and the outfits I would love to wear!)

Ginza is an upscale part of Tokyo with luxurious shopping and high fashion everywhere. The flagship stores of Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci are always lit up, creating one of the most beautiful city nights I have ever seen. Having been to both, I dare say Ginza is brighter, even, than Times Square.

Class would be the name of my game -- including a midnight toast at the Icebar Tokyo, a bar made entirely of, you guessed it, ice. Everything from walls, the bar, tables, and even glasses are made of ice. A jacket is provided in the Icebar Tokyo, but I would walk in wearing the Little Time Dress and Nekhbey Necklace in Gold [sold out!]. Simple, sophisticated, stylish ... kind of like Ginza itself.

But let's not be square bears -- a splash of color is needed!  Jeffrey Campbell Pacific Teal Leather Double Ruffle Heels it is!

Check back tomorrow for my next New Year's hotspot!
