  • Trend Alert: Neon Brights!

    Go Bright or Go Home!

I don't think I've worn a single piece of neon anything since the '80s, and yet a neon pink skirt has already crept into my closet in the anticipation of warmer weather and brighter days to come. It's not that I feel like I'm being forced into the ebb and flow of this year's trends, though, something in me is just ready to revisit those fluorescent flourishes of my youth.

If we take a peek at the spring 2011 runways, we'll see the reemergence of neon throughout the whole of Christopher Kane, and neon yellow popped up in a single item for Lanvin. The rest is history, or should I say, history in the making.

Lanvin had a single piece of neon in their spring 2011 fashion show.

A single neon color-pop is a great way to test the waters.

  • Looks We ♥: Embellished Collars

I currently have the biggest crush on oxford collars, which had recently turned into full on infatuation with the emergence of detachable and embellished collar micro trend. Both sharp and classy, playful and professional, this can be seen on the catwalks of SS 2012 shows such as Louis Vuitton. Plus, they really work out for any style; girly, edgy, prep, vintage, you name it! Come, take a journey with me into the world of collars.

Oh pearls, they're gorgeous aren't they? They add this delicacy to and outfit, and remind me of pure innocence. I love the idea of rocking a full on monochromatic look with the accent of pearls at the neck.

Who doesn't love some bling around their neck? These collars have such a lovely vintage feel to them, I can just imagine the full a line skirt and mary-janes paired with these beauties. These are definitely some of my favorites pictures of these glittery masterpieces.

The stud is my absolute favorite of them all, but that's just the kind of girl I am. What really makes me love this trend so much is that it gives you the perfect amount of flare. It’s a genius idea to add simple intensity to such a basic piece.

I am a sucker for cats (Um, Cat Litas anyone?), so I love these last two picture I found. The piece de resistance is the statement necklaces paired with the collars. Gives it that extra oomph, you know? I almost feel a DIY blog coming on...

So are you guys as excited about collars as I am? Or is just a miss for you? Let me know!

    xoxo

  • Beauty Trends for 2012

To ring in the New Year I wanted to examine some of the top trends from the Spring Runway shows. Although these are relatively classic looks, I love that they are being shown on the runway because it gives us all an idea of attainable beauty and celebrates the features of a woman's face rather than creating a theatrical or over-the-top look. Lets examine the best of the Spring 2012 Runway shows along with some products that can help you achieve the look.

Giorgio Armani featured a beautiful version of a cat-eye with silver highlights and a swoop of smokey grey shadow. This is a really beautiful interpretation of a classic cat-eye and I just love the intensity without it being too over the top.

To achieve this look, a palette with multiple shades of sparkling silvers, greys and blacks will be perfect. I love Bobbi Brown's Cool Party Eye Palette, shown below. To get a perfect cat eye, use an angled brush and a gel eyeliner. Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner is a great choice. It is easy to control with a good brush and stays on for hours!

Flawless, flawless, flawless! There is no decade when this look is not drop-dead-gorgeous. Dewy skin, soft smoky eyes and red lips, this is just classic beauty at its best. Christian Dior knocked it out of the park with the beauty for his Spring 2012 collection. The great thing about a bold lip is while red is the classic, you can go with something a little different too. As long as you keep you makeup simple, a fuscia or an amazing orange-red will give a more modern pop of color. A statement lip, if you will!

YSL makes an amazing lipstick, Rouge Pur Couture Golden Lustre in Fuchsia. A bright fuchsia lip is always daring and bold and can look flattering on many skin tones. Another favorite of mine is MAC lipstick in Morange. This bright orange-red is the perfect tone for a fiery lip! I always get tons  of compliments on it and I recommend it to everyone as a fun color with more of a pop than traditional reds.

Rouge Pur Couture Golden Lustre in Fuchsia                            MAC Morange

Bold pop of color has been a theme throughout most beauty reports and has been seen on many runways. Above we have Richard Chai and Miu Miu, respectively. With neutral makeup and flawless skin as the base for this look, a pop of color is introduced at the eye. This is a really fun way to create an evening look. You don't always have to use dark colors for a smokey eye such as black, grey or silver. Feel free to use different colors to create a sultry and smokey night time look. I love the idea of a bold orange eye with a really natural face. Here are some suggestions to achieve a similar look:
Above we have Makeup Forever eyeshadow in Rust Orange and Nars eyeshadow in Outremer. Both of these shades can be used in bold application for a daring look that is totally on trend for 2012.

I am so excited for a new year of fabulous fashion and beauty trends!
What makeup will you be trying out in the new year?

  • Alexa Chung on the Cover of British Vogue!

Trendsetter Alexa Chung graces the cover of British Vogue for the June 2011 issue looking as beautiful as ever! With soft bangs and a tousled wave, her chic bob is picture perfect.
Alexa has been a hair icon for years and has been setting trends since she arrived on the scene! Check out some of my favorite hair looks from years past.

Similar to the Vogue cover, look this soft and feminine bob is the perfect length for Alexa's face shape. The caramel hue makes her eyes look even more blue!

Alexa had a heads up on the ombre trend back in 2009. With dark roots and a lighter tone on the tips, Alexa was one of  the first to make this hairstyle sensation a hit!

Fixing the bangs into a chic side braid is the perfect way to get your hair out of your face while changing up the style. Keep it loose and tousled for a soft and easy look.

What do you think of Alexa's styles? Which one is your favorite?

  • Get Gorgeous with Michelle Phan

If you are interested in beauty and makeup and you haven't heard of Michelle Phan, well, you can thank me later. This YouTube beauty guru has been long been considered the authority on internet makeup tutorials. With a fantastic range that includes both conceptual and everyday makeup, her videos are respected and referred to regularly in the beauty community. Michelle is the first female YouTuber to reach over a million subscribers, and her video views exceed 361 million! Michelle recently joined the Lancome team and is currently making videos using their fantastic products.

Being on YouTube almost more than Facebook and being obsessed with all things beauty and makeup, I have following Ms. Phan for quite some time. Let me walk you through a few of my favorite videos, shown below.

Ahh, the Purple Disco Tutorial! Not only is this video fantastically edited and easy to follow, Michelle is one of those super talented artists who manages to make purple eyeshadow look somehow subtle and glam. This tutorial gives you step by step instructions on how to achieve a perfectly sparkly and sultry evening eye look. The main reason I love her syle is that Michelle always manages to make her makeup look effortless, regardless of the intensity of the colors. The look is never overdone and always celebrates her features.

Fast and fresh makeup in the morning is an instant confidence booster. Growing up pale and awkward, I quickly discovered that blush and mascara were my friend, and from that a love of cosmetics was born. It is all about enhancing your natural beauty and feeling great! Enjoy this tutorial shown above, which gives you fast tips on how to enhance your look in just 5 minutes! I love that Michelle always mentions the importance of defining your brows. Giving you an instant frame around your face, your eyebrows are one of the most important parts of your face.

Michelle definitely knows how to have some fun with makeup, as shown in the video above. Based on a look from Lady Gaga's video, Bad Romance, Michelle shows us how to achieve the wide eyed look made famous by the pop sensation. One of several Lady Gaga inspired videos, this tutorial is my favorite for the fun computer generated effects at the end. Receiving over 20 million views, this video is a web classic and has been referenced many times.

Make sure to check out Michelle's channel. Her sweet demeanor and expert skills will make you an instant fan, trust me!

  • Trend Alert: Tempting Tail Hems

Feeling a little playful with your hemlines? Tail hems are the best option if you want to experiment with the hemlines of your skirts and dresses. A tail hem is when a dress is actually slightly longer in the back, also known as a high low hem. This length does not have to be drastic; it can actually be very subtle and allow one to wear a short dress or skirt if they are usually self-conscious about revealing too much of their back end.

Etro spring summer 2011  Mary Katrantzou spring summer 2011  Topshop Unique spring summer 2011

This is an awesome way to spice up your spring fashion wardrobe with a new cut. One side of the garment suggests lengthy elegance, while the other allows one to be a little risqué. This makes it utterly impossible to ever get bored with this adorable trend!

Here are some perfect little numbers that will keep you on par with this transpiring trend:

What do you think about tail hems?

  • Nails by The Biebs!

What can't this mini-mogul do? This Justin Bieber beauty craze comes in a small and colorful bottle. What could it be? No, it is not a love potion to make The Biebs fall head over heels for you! Tap into your inner Belieber with this fresh line of nail polishes in an array of colors! The 17 year old designed a line of polish for Nicole by OPI called One Less Lonely Girl Collection this past October. Although it has been out for a while, I can't wait to get ahold of a few bottles of my own! With his signature purple and plenty of primary colors in the mix, this line has clever names such as One Less Lonely Glitter, One Time Lime and Give Me the First Dance.

Personally, I love the glitter shade on the top left. It has chunks of multi-colored glitter and would be perfect layered on top of a light blue polish. I love statement polish and these shades are not for the faint of heart. They would make the perfect gift for the Bieber-loving teen (or adult!) in your life.

I think that Justin wants his nails painted, in the shade of Step 2 the Beat of My ♥. What do you think?

  • Trend to Try: How to Wear Maxi Skirts

After a few years of short hemlines ruling the streets a new fresh take has emerged. With a flowing, long maxi and your choice of top this trend is definitely one to try. Let's take a look at some inspirational photos and how these stylish ladies choose to make the trend their own.

Using an all black color pallete this gothic inspired look stands out because of the lacy skirt and the layered necklaces. Image from thrifted on Chictopia.

I love the vintage inspired long lace maxi dress shown here. With platforms, simple hair and makeup, this look is a perfect spring transition. Image from meat market on Chictopia.

These two lovelies decided on a skeer maxi with beautiful animal prints or pleats. I love the floppy hat paired with the animal print shown first on Carolina of Fashion Squad. In a navi sheer maxi, Rhiannon of Liebemarlene, pairs a striped crop top for the ultimate in effortless style. Both of these ladies always look flawless!

In the above photo, from Vanessa Jackman, is one of my favorite examples of the maxi trend done right. This photo went viral so fast and for good reason. Taken during Paris Fashion Week this beauty has combined an oversized grey sweater with a perfect black maxi and platform boots. From the hair to the sunnies and the red lipstick this photo always stands out in my mind as styling at its finest.

Finally we have this stunning example from The Haute Pursuit on Chictopia. I love the leopard panel on this maxi paired with a crop top and oversized sweater. You can never go wrong with animal prints!

Wanna try the trend yourself? Here are some fabulous maxi options for your consideration.

Here we have the Enchanted Evening Black Lace Maxi Skirt and the Extra Toppings Brown Maxi Skirt. I love the sheer black lace which allows you to layer! The perfect taupey-brown of the second skirt makes it super easy to match with whatever strikes your fancy.

Will you be trying this trend?

  • Trend to Try: Oxford Flats

Put a little prep in your step this season with a sophisticated pair of oxford flats. I love the look of oxfords and was so excited to see our stock of the Vabene Boyfried Oxford arrive earlier this week. The menswear look for women is on a roll, and if you're on board, you need to get yourself a pair of these cuties. Wear 'em alone with dresses and shorts, or take a tip from model Agyness Deyn and pair them with some cute ankle socks. How would you rock the oxford?
