  • Tune In: Away We Go

One of my favorite films of the year, Away We Go, is now sitting happily on my shelf at home. After watching the film for the third time, I have a couple heartstrings attached to the amazing soundtrack, which features the mesmerizing vocals of singer songwriter, Alexi Murdoch. His heartwarming acoustics and lullaby lyrics combine to create beautiful songs that perfectly fit the tone of the film.

As Burt (John Krasinski) and Verona (Maya Rudolph) travel cross country looking for a place to call home, the music accompanies their journey by each location. Alexi's songs narrate the feelings of love shared between them while always keeping them moving forward.

Check out the music video below and take in the soothing voice of Alexi singing "All of My Days".

  • Get Crafty: Homemade Valentine's Gifts

Love is in the air, and with Valentine's Day just around the corner, I have found myself yet again gift-less. Normally I would run to the store and find whatever chocolate goodies and cute cards were left, but this year I was determined to make my own Valentine's gifts.

I have found some simple homemade gifts that are perfect for friends, family or that special someone in your life. They are both inexpensive, easy, and quick to make. Believe me, if I can cut, staple and paste, so can you!

Below is a link to a video from The Early Show on CBS that gives instructions on how to make these gifts as well as a few other Valentine's Day favorites!

For That Special Someone: Message in a Bottle

    Materials you'll need:

    -1 cleaned empty glass bottle

    -popsicle sticks

    -colored pen

For friends and family: Stuffed Hearts

    Materials you'll need:

    - 2 paper hearts cut out

    - a stapler

    - Whatever type of candy you wish (should be small candy so it can fit inside)

    - small piece of paper for note

  • A Very Vintage Style Manicure

For the retro gal who has already mastered the hair and makeup, a vintage-style manicure is your next best accessory.

Sported by the bold and stylish Dita Von Teese, retro nails of the 30's and 40's have a very distinct and glamorous look. Each nail is grown long in an oval shape that is filed to a point at the tip. Traditionally the moons and tips of the nail were left uncolored, but I like how Dita sports it with the moons filled in with contrasting white lacquer.

Try out the look at home. I love this tutorial from MsFaintlyMacabre's YouTube channel. Her nails look stunning at the finish!

  • Time to Get Carried Away

I don't know about you, but I'm already excited to see the new Sex and the City movie due to come out this May!

I thought the first movie did a great job at keeping the story of the show alive without making things way too dramatic or over the top. The core of friendships and relationships was explored in a meaningful way. I'm interested to see what happens in the sequel. The girls are pretty much settled down (except for Samantha, of course), but it looks like it's going to be quite the adventure.

When I saw the first movie in theaters, the place was packed, and I swore I heard the popping open of a champagne bottle somewhere in back. This tells me diehard fans will make a celebration out of the release for sure!

So I got a little "Carried away" myself and named this cute little Hello Lover Top after one of our favorite fashionistas.

  • Pop! Goes My Heart

The most adorable little polka dot dress came in the Lulu*s warehouse this morning, and I knew it had to be named something special. The bold black and white graphic print reminded me of pop art, which made me think of a little song called: "Pop! Goes My Heart."

Those of you who have seen the movie, Music and Lyrics, starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, will know exactly what I'm talking about. Those who have not must watch the hilarious music video below. It stars Hugh Grant as a singer in a fictional eighties band called PoP! Their hit single is the catchy "Pop! Goes My Heart."

Ok, now that I've got you hooked on the song, you must check out the little number that started it all and go rent the movie!

  • Hair Inspiration: Dita Von Teese

I am in love with the seemingly effortless glamour and flirty waves of Dita Von Teese's hair style in the above pic. Inspired by hair of the 1940's, Dita has perfected this look on her own, which in turn, inspired me to give it a try.

Dita recently tweeted on her Twitter page that she uses "Hot rollers in small+med sizes," and sometimes "iron+clips" in order to set her hair into retro glam waves. I found the perfect YouTube tutorial which goes over how to style and set the rollers to achieve a similar look.

Now all I need are some good hot rollers. Any suggestions?

  • Fav Soundtrack: Whip It

During these bitter cold January weeks, I've been a bit lethargic when it comes to exercise. How does one motivate oneself to power up a treadmill let alone jog on it for 30 minutes?

It was then that I found what I was looking for: the perfect compilation of songs to get my butt into shape. It's amazing just how much music can change your mood, and the soundtrack from the movie Whip It has got the perfect mix of girl power and rock and roll!

Featuring songs from the The Ramones, Peaches, The Breeders, The Raveonettes, Apollo Sunshine...the list goes on....there's a little something here for everyone. So turn up the volume and get your groove on. Those lazy winter days don't stand a chance.

  • Coming Soon: Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is officially a month away, and what better way to celebrate than with a box of chocolates and a good old chick flick. Bring your beau or head out with the girls, 'cause the new film Valentine's Day is sure to be a hit.

Set in Los Angeles on Valentine's Day, this romantic comedy follows the story lines of different couples experiencing the butterflies and also the pressures of the most romantic day of the year. This combination of various integrating plots reminds me a lot of He's Just Not That Into You and Love Actually -- both films I also really enjoyed.

The film has an all-star cast, including Jessica Alba, Kathy Bates, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane, Patrick Dempsey,  Hector Elizondo, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Topher Grace, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Queen Latifah, Taylor Lautner, George Lopex, Shirley MacLaine, Emma Roberts, Julia Roberts and Taylor Swift.

Watch the trailer here, and go see the film Feb 12th, 2010!!

  • Weezer Muse

I wanted to share with you guys a fun music video by Weezer for their song, "If You're Wondering If I Want You To." It features the Weezer gang in a Pleasantville type of town called ... what else? Weezerville. They're four best friends, and life is sweet in Weezerville.

Enter the femme fatale, played by the gorgeous and charming actress, Odette Yustman. Her character is what inspired this blog and a couple YouTube hair tutorials on the web. Check out her awesome costuming, makeup and hair!! I love the soft feminine look of the dress combined with the flawlessly crafted, 40's-inspired victory rolls.

Check out the video below to see what an impact her looks make on Weezerville and the surprising ending!

And if you're inspired by her look like I was, give the hair tutorial by the talented LisaFreemontStreet a try. It shows a quick and easy way to get a similar effect.

Now, if I could only get my hands on that darling yellow dress ...
