How To: Mini Skirts In Winter

Winter is here, which means colder weather and tons of layers. But just because it gets a bit chilly doesn't mean that you can't still wear some of your summer and fall favorites. Wearing tights with shorts has been a big trend for a couple years now (gotta love the 90s revival!), but what about wearing your mini skirt in the winter?

Well don't fret ladies, we got you covered. Below are three amazing looks styled to perfection just for you. So sit back, relax, and let us walk you through these simple and easy styling tips!

Double Up

For a wonderful layered day look, pair a printed skirt with what I like to call the "double up." This is when you wear a pair of opaque tights with matching thick thigh-highs for extra warmth and a subtle texture!

We put black booties with the double up to help elongate the leg and keep the focus on the mix of the warm knit and printed skirt. Add a bit of sophistication by wearing a button-up under a loose knit crop top!

This is the perfect combination of comfy chic that is perfect for the college scene. Pairing an oversized shirt over a monochromatic mini is a basic outfit that I still use to this day.

Pair the mini with a pair of patterned sheer tights to give it a bit of edge. Add a pair of bright contrast thigh-highs, but slouch them over the knees to represent that "devil may care" attitude that college is all about.

Match your mini with a pair of simple oxfords wedges to complete the look. All you need is a oversized anorak and you're ready for the door!

Weekend Inspiration: Vicki from Magpie Girl

Happy Friday! After a long week and very chilly temperatures I was really excited to see some inspirational images by the lovely Vicki of Magpie Girl. She has a fashion blog with absolute cute overload! Every outfit is girly and on trend. What really drew me in was the super saturated images vibrant with pinks, greens, oranges and rich neutrals.

When days are grey and rainy the best thing you can do is put on a favorite song and collect some visual inspiration to keep your mind open and creative. At least, thats what I think! So enjoy these beautiful pictures. If you are feeling adventurous and a little experimental play the video below for a full transport to another state of mind! Glasser is one of my favorite new singers and her angelic voice combined with electronic and abstract elements really put the mind at ease.

Baby It's Cold Outside

After all the holiday cheer has passed and January's bitter cold sets in, we fabulous and stylish girls may find ourselves in need of some extra layers to keep us insulated from the chills that convince us to stay in bed with the covers pulled over our heads.

For me, winter used to be a long, dreary season during which I didn't really care about what I wore. My old college sweatshirt, go-to blue jeans, and a humongous, unflattering old coat would do just fine.

What I know now is that layering a winter outfit is an art in itself. An art that, once mastered, can have you looking quite put together and weather-appropriate whether you're going to work, school or running a couple of errands.

My new favorite blog to visit for fashion tips is The Freelancer's Fashionblog. This vintage lovin' lady, (whose drawing is featured above), teaches the art of layering in her newest post, "The Anatomy of Dressing When It's Really Really Cold."

I love the use of the word "Anatomy," because that's really how technical layering can be. The Freelancer's Fashionblog advises to use buildable layers of warm knits, wool and handy accessories to not only keep you looking cozy but cute. I've already borrowed some of her tips to help me out on my teeth chattering passage to work.

Accessories are my favorite part of the layering process. A hat like the Sunny Disposition Cap in Black [sold out!] will help keep your body heat from escaping. We pretty much all own this hat at the office and wear it every day, so it works!

I love layering my Argyle Addict Knee High Socks under my long john pants and skinny jeans. They go great under boots too. Last but not least, my most recent find are the High Five Arm Warmers in Purple [sold out!], which allow my hands to defrost and get typing happily again. Yay!!
