Retro, fun and a little bit quirky, ya gotta love a good polka dot print! Our newest Surprise Party Dress (pictured center front) arrived just in time for all those graduation parties I need to attend. Blue and white make an exceptionally good pair for this print, as seen on Zooey Deschanel (left) and Miranda Kerr (right).

I can't wait to style it with a messy chignon, bow hair clip and some red lipstick (but of course!).

Summer is fast approaching, and I have a feeling that She & Him's new album Volume Two will be essential part of my summer soundtrack.
If you aren't familiar with She & Him, here's the breakdown:
The band consists of M. Ward, a indie singer-songwriter who rose to fame out of the Portland, Oregon, music scene, and Zooey Deschanel, one of our favorite actresses here at Lulus.com. M. Ward was impressed by Zooey's singing in the movie Elf, and after she sent him some demos, he insisted she record them proper. Thus, She & Him was born.
I first heard of She & Him almost two years ago to the day, when I was asked to record a video review of their first album, Volume One, for the college radio station I was working for. I've had them stuck in my head ever since.
The pair just premiered the video for their new single "In the Sun" that's absolutely adorable. Check it out below:
Their sophomore album, Volume Two, hits stores March 23, so mark your calendars.

This summer, I'm hoping to add a little retro flair to my warm-weather wardrobe. Retro to me means a high waist, whether it be skirts, pants or shorts. Don't be frightened into thinking that a high waist = mom jeans. When worn correctly, a high waistline will cinch in your middle while creating an overall flattering and feminine silhouette. That's why I was thrilled to see our Short Shorts from Cheap Monday come in last week. With a high belted waist, these dark denim shorts are just ready to be styled up with a pair of cute flats and button up top (not to mention hair tied up with a handkerchief and bright red lipstick).

For styling inspiration, I love how Kiera Knightly has paired a simple collared blouse with her high waist plaid bottoms.

A leggy Audrey Hepburn keeps the look chic with little heels and a plaid shirt.

Zooey Deschanel's outfit goes all out retro with double breasted sailor shorts. The tights are a nice touch in that they make the look wearable for the cool months of spring.

I was flipping through Lucky Magazine the other day and was so inspired by this pic I found of Zooey Deschanel in an advertisement for America's Cotton Producers. I've gushed about Zooey's style before, but I thought I should point out how well she pulls off the bow trend here.
The cute little bows on her feet are a dead ringer for our Chinese Laundry Sweet Caroline Black Jelly Flats that have been literally FLYING off the shelf. I love the idea of a metallic bow necklace as well, which is why I was so psyched to see the Maybe So Necklace in gold and silver arrive this morning.
Now, the Zooey Bow Earrings below [sold out! but available in Red] have a name not only inspired by Zooey herself, but I'm pretty sure she'd go crazy over them if she happened to stroll into the Lulu*s warehouse one day. :)

If you're like me, rainy weather has you neglecting any attempts at hair styling and sporting a variety of caps all week instead. Now, while hats can be fun, it's nice to change up your look every now and then. But while there's so much moisture in the air, I find it pointless to spend time blow-drying and straightening when it's all going to end up a frizzy mess.
That's where the classic chignon comes in extremely handy.

A low bun pulled to the side of the head, a chignon is a simple style that can be as glammed up or as casual as you wish. I prefer it loosely gathered and pulled slightly off center. Add any clips or accessories, red lipstick, and those rainy days won't look so daunting after all.
