This Simple Glitter Nail Art Will Inspire You to Celebrate Your Imperfections

Published by

This glitter nail art is inspired by the precise geometric patterns of the Art Deco era. By layering black nail polish under shimmery gold, it adds dimension that pops the color, making it appear 3D. You can customize this manicure with different polish colors as your base coat, and different shimmers for your line work. If you want to have a dark nail as your base, simply swap out the thin black lines for white.

What I also love about these neutral nails with glitter lines is how they remind me of Kintsugi. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. The idea being, when you embrace flaws and imperfections, you can create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art. As author Candice Kumai puts it, “you are better with your golden cracks.”

Glitter Nail Art

Supplies:

  • Nude nail polish
  • Clear nail polish/top coat
  • Black nail polish
  • Shimmery gold nail polish
  • Aluminum foil (to use as a palette)
  • Thin nail art brush (My favorite brush for this is the Orly Striper Brush

Instructions:

Step 1: Paint 2 coats of your favorite nude nail. For this look I used “Sheer nude” by Orly
Step 2: Using a thin line brush, paint thin black lines that create a geometric look on the top half of the nail.
Step 2a: Using the same technique, create varying geometric designs across each of the other nails.
Step 3: Using your favorite shimmery gold polish (this works with silver too!) paint another thin line over the black line.
Step 3a: Repeat the same technique across each of the other nails. Seal with a top coat and enjoy!
