Shine On: Here’s How to Get Shimmering Copper Eyes for Date Night–or Daytime

Shining bright for day and showstopping for night, metallic eyes are as easily stunning as they are to achieve. Try out my single-shadow technique to pull off this beaming copper eyeshadow look. Just check out the video below and scroll on for the full makeup tutorial instructions!

Instructions:

1. Skin Prep:

• During the Fall and Winter months when the temps drop along with the humidity and moisture in the air, be sure to pay extra attention to providing your skin with the nourishment it needs to look its very best. I reach for cleansing oil and a cleansing cloth to remove impurities from the skin without stripping it of its moisture.  Follow up with a gentle massage of oil all over the face and neck for a hydrating, smooth, and radiant glow.
• I lock in the skin’s moisture for the day and beyond with a water cream.
• I pay special attention to treating the eye area next, applying caffeine solution to reduce puffiness followed by eye cream for brightness and hydration and for brightness and hydration.
• Condition the lips prior to applying makeup with ointment, allowing the treatment ample time to soak in and remedy dry and chapped skin.

2. Foundation:

• Keep your skin lightweight and fresh by buffing a drop of face and body foundation in a circular motion from the center of your face outwards.
• Layer concealer under eyes or to mask unwanted color or blemishes. The product can also be used to highlight the t-zone and brow bones, balancing the natural highlights and contours of the face.

3. Cheeks:

• Let your eyes make the statement by pairing them with a subtle contour and monochromatic cheek color. Lightly dust bronzing powder onto the cheekbones, along the jawline,  and up into the hairline, to softly frame the face.
• Brush a peach blush softly onto the apples of the cheek.
• Using a smaller blending brush, blend the bronzing powder along the length of the nose, up into the eye crease, and underneath the lower lashline.

4. Brows:

• Use a spoolie brush loaded with soap or a waxed-based product to backcomb the brow hair. Grab even the smallest and thinnest of hairs before combing it through and locking the shape in place.
• Using a precise brow pencil, lightly fill in the brow, making hair-like strokes.

5. Eyes:

• Metallic eyes can be easily achieved with a swipe of just one highly-pigmented, crème-based eye shadow. Get the look by tapping a copper eyeshadow or bronze shade onto the lid. Use the warmth of your fingertips to smooth the pigment out before buffing a blending brush along the outer edges of the shadow to soften edges, creating a beautiful gradient effect. I used metallic cream pigment for a long-lasting, high-metal shine.
• Smudge the shadow underneath the lower lash line and use the same technique after applying a rich black kohl eyeliner. Swipe on a healthy coat of carbon black pigmented mascara.

6. Lips:

• Prep the lips with a primer to keep your color in place and on for longer.
• While the primer sets and creates its “grip,” lightly dust a soft-focused setting powder onto areas of the face where oil production tends to be the highest, t-zone, brows, upper lips, and under eyes. This is not about “baking” but simply reducing unflattering shine on the face.
• Now that the primer has set, define the lips with a neutral lip pencil and pair with a complimentary warm lipstick to complete the look.

Voila! A day-to-night copper eyeshadow look that’s sure to shine.
