It’s the vintage-inspired look that never goes out of style: old Hollywood waves are sexy, glamorous, and as it turns out, easier to achieve than you might’ve previously thought. Since the days when movie stars like Veronica Lake and Lauren Bacall made these silky waves famous, everyone from Reese Witherspoon to Rihanna has rocked the iconic hairstyle. Now, it’s your turn.

Retro waves are probably the most timeless of all old Hollywood hairstyles, but you don’t have to be a starlet to get your turn at red carpet-ready tresses. With the guidance of our go-to hair and makeup guru, Erin Ryser, we’re showing how you can score this look for any special occasion this season, from fall weddings (yours or someone else’s!) to bridal showers to holiday parties and more. Get ready for your closeup, babe.

Possibly our favorite thing about this take on old Hollywood waves? We get to incorporate one of our current favorite trends: hair accessories. Pretty pearl hair pins add extra vintage vibes to these already-retro waves, so regardless of the event you’re heading to, you’re going to look totally timeless. Silky Old Hollywood Waves:

1. Spray the hair with medium hold hairspray, brush through, and section to curl.
2. Curl all in the same direction.
3. Create a side part and brush out the curls with a comb, smoothing with hair spray as you go.
4. Tuck hair behind the ear on the side with less hair.
5. Add hair pins.
