It may be a new decade but when it comes to beauty trends, babes are looking to the past–more specifically, they’re looking at scrunchie hairstyles. According to a Pinterest report, searches for the staple ’90s hair accessory are up 6,309% (yes, you read that right), which means the throwback look is officially a 2020 fashion-girl staple. (Bonus: These fabric-covered elastics are gentle on your strands, too!)

Of course, rocking the retro trend doesn’t mean you have to look like you stepped off the set of a ’90s movie or you’re wearing a Halloween costume. So how to wear scrunchies the 2020 way? It’s easy–ahead, check out three chic and easy ideas!

1. Half-Up Scrunchie Hairstyle

For this first style, section off the top half of your hair starting at your ears and going up towards the top of your head! Secure with your scrunchie of choice and hit the hair framing your face with hairspray to lock this look in place.

2. Low Ponytail With Scrunchie

Looking for something a bit more pulled together? Opt for a low to mid-height ponytail! The trick here is to align the scrunchie with the top of your ears. Pull out two pieces in the front for that undone look.

3. Messy Bun With Scrunchie

This style takes “messy bun” to a whole new level. Keep your face-framing pieces out and toss the rest of your hair up into a bun, wrapping and twisting the hair around the base. Secure with your scrunchie and voila!
