Hair How-To: Refresh Your Second-Day Waves

Who doesn’t love effortless, tousled waves? But once you’ve found the perfect wavy hair tutorial and you’ve nailed the look at home, you’re then tasked with maintaining your ‘do. That’s after sleeping on it and not washing it for a day–or two, three…you get the idea. Since shampooing and restyling your waves from scratch is way less than ideal for both your scalp’s natural oils and your schedule, it’s time to learn how to refresh wavy hair–and quickly!  That’s where our go-to beauty babe, Erin Ryser, and her easy second-day hair tutorial come in.

With just dry shampoo, a curling iron, and light-hold hairspray, Ryser shows just how easy it is to take your second-day hair from limp to lively in no time. Scroll on to see her step-by-step instructions for how to refresh wavy hair, complete with video!

Second-Day Waves:

  1. Spray roots with dry shampoo.
  2. Tease roots if needed in front area and crown.
  3. Grab a small section of hair in the front, open curling iron, and twist section into iron, curling away from the face.
  4. Hold for about a second or two and pull downward, straightening the curl a bit and pulling through the end of the hair.
  5. Repeat, grabbing small, random sections from top layer all around the head, alternating direction of the curl for a more natural, effortless look. (No need to re-curl the whole head! Just do about 10-12 small sections.)
  6. Run fingers through hair as you spray with a light-hold hairspray
  7. Scrunch and add product as needed for hold.
  8. Did you try this wavy hair tutorial? Show us your refreshed second-day hair on Instagram @Lulus using #lovelulus–and tell us what tutorials you’d like to see next in the comments!
