Happy Hour: Watermelon Mint Margaritas with Sivan Ayla

In honor of National Tequila Day, we’ve teamed up with one of our fave influencers, Sivan Ayla, to bring you the ultimate tequila cocktail: Watermelon Mint Margaritas! Read below to get her how-to on this perfect summer beverage.

Summer is officially here! I feel like I wait all year for this season because it means permanent tans, rosé without guilt, and easy outfit choices. And of course, cocktails for absolutely NO reason! I had to make that part clear since I invited my friend and lifestyle blogger Devon Rachel over on a Tuesday for some margaritas. Then again, Devon is probably the only girl I know that would be down for some impromptu cocktail-ing (knew I liked her for a reason!).

With temps already hitting triple digits here in the Valley, a refreshing, COLD drink is actually pretty necessary. Nothing sounds more refreshing to me than watermelon, cucumber, and mint. Am I right? So why not add a little tequila, line that rim with some tajin or salt, and there you go!
Now I have to be honest, when Devon and I first attempted to make this (as you’ll see in the video below), I added 6oz of tequila!!! Not sure how I got the number so wrong, but between the strength of the alcohol and the supreme saltiness on the rim, we were anything but graceful while taking our first sips. However, I promise you we gave it another shot with the correct ratios and it was beyond yummy. For the full recipe and video tutorial, scroll down.

WHAT YOU NEED: Makes 2 glasses
-2 oz tequila
-1/2 oz Cointreau
-1 cup watermelon cubes
-4″ cucumber, peeled
-1 lime, juiced
-Fresh mint
-Margarita salt or Tajin
-Ice

WHAT TO DO:
1. Place watermelon, cucumber, & lime juice into a blender. Blend well.
2. Line your margarita glass with lime & your choice of salt or Tajin.
3. Add ice to your glass.
4. Pour the tequila & Cointreau into the glass.
5. Evenly pour the watermelon mixture into the glasses. Stir well.
6. Add a watermelon slice & sprig of mint as garnish.
7. Cheers!

*Tip: If you want a smoother drink, strain the watermelon mixture before pouring into your glass.
