The Fall Colors Your Closet Needs

Say goodbye to summer’s scorching heat and barely there clothing, and hello to fall fashion season! Filled with longer hemlines, layers upon layers, and a plethora of new dresses, jackets and shoes to choose from, fall is definitely our favorite season for getting dressed! When Pantone released the fall color trend report earlier this year, we just knew we had to add these fresh hues to our wardrobe. From classic neutrals to bright, bold colors, the clothing we love this fall is all about expressing yourself through color and texture. We picked out five of our favorite fall color trends featured in the color report to give you a quick cheat sheet for the must-have items in each of these trendy hues. Are you ready for a fall-inspired rainbow wardrobe? Read on for our top picks and the cutest ways to wear them!

The hottest color for fall is bright and fiery Grenadine red! From head-to-toe red to pops of the cherry hue added to neutral outfits, if you have to add an unexpected color to your closet this season, it’s this one. Stand out in a bright red jumpsuit like the Thinking Out Loud Red Backless Jumpsuit for a look that commands attention. Not “red-y” to go full monochromatic in red? Try adding it to your outfits with a pair of statement earrings, as an accent color on a printed dress or as a lacy layer underneath your favorite shirts and sweaters.

In the vein of more traditional fall colors, Autumn Maple is a cozy orange shade filled with warmth, updated for 2017 with a rusty, coppery cast. It’s completely unexpected in a lacy cocktail dress, which makes the J.O.A. Kyler Burnt Orange Lace Off-the-Shoulder Dress the best choice for any of the fall occasions you want to be your best dressed and look different from everyone else in the room. Other fun ways to add this rust shade to your wardrobe include shimmery leggings paired with your fave oversize sweater; sexy, trendy tops; and soft, suede handbags with boho accents.

Shaded Spruce is this fall’s answer to the classic forest green. This cool green looks amazing on all skin tones and is our favorite jewel-inspired shade to incorporate into the upcoming season’s closet. Rendered in silky satin, the Let Me Entertain You Forest Green Satin Wide-Leg Jumpsuit is a chic take on a one-piece outfit for any party you’re heading to this fall. The color looks equally beautiful as a dress, whether it’s a lacy midi, a sexy maxi or a playful striped mini dress. A strappy bodysuit paired with dark denim or a flash of emerald in your earrings are subtler ways of adding this gorgeous green to whatever outfit you’re wearing.

Blush is still happening! Whether you call it Millennial pink, Ballet Slipper (like Pantone did) or just plain, old pink, this soft, rosy shade is still hot for fall after being one of our most-loved looks for spring and summer. Add this femme color to your closet in the form of street style staples like the Melrose Blush Pink Velour Hoodie. It’s longer length and soft fabric elevate the classic hoodie style into something a little more special. Other picks for adding blush to your fall wardrobe include sexy separates, shift dresses (so cute with a denim jacket and sneaks!), and easy-to-carry handbags.

It wouldn’t be a fall fashion color report without burgundy! While this hue is consistently at the top of our favorite fall color lists, this year it feels fresh and elegant in a cool-toned cast. Look for burgundy pieces with a little bit of blue undertones to bring this color into 2017, such as the Free People Simply Henley Burgundy Long Sleeve Bodysuit. Rock this color from head to toe in pretty maxi dresses and low-key jumpsuits, or pick a key piece such as a suede mini skirt or velvet sneakers to bring a little burgundy into your everyday outfits.

We hope this color trend cheat sheet has you feeling inspired for a color-filled fall! Tell us your favorite fall color in the comments, shop our selections from this post below and tag your pretty fall outfits with #lovelulus on Instagram!
