We’re not gonna lie: We didn’t expect to still be loving the tie-dye trend this much–and for this long. It had been a while since tie-dye clothing was considered cool or chic but last year, the once-dead fashion trend made a surprising comeback. Now here we are, crushing on the look more than ever.

Tie-dye clothing came down the runways riding a wave (get it?) of other surfer girl-inspired trends that quickly caught on as the must-have summer vibe–but the look has shown serious staying power, through several seasons. It’s not just about ’90s Cali-girl T-shirts, although, if we’re being honest, we can’t get enough of those, either. Everything from comfy-chic loungewear sets and swimwear to satin skirts, sweaters, and party dresses has gotten the hippie-chick treatment. Today, the tie-dye trend feels effortlessly cool, edgy, and even elevated. Who knew?
