It’s time to get in touch with your inner #crazyplantlady.<\/p>\n

The indoor plant trend has exploded in the last year–one look at Instagram<\/a> will confirm that. Houseplants that were last popular in the ’70s and ’80s are experiencing a major revival and oversized plants like the Monstera deliciosa<\/em> have all but taken over, turning small urban spaces into indoor jungles–and perfect Insta backdrops. Of course, there are plenty of reasons to get in on the houseplant trend–and it doesn’t all have to do with great social content. Plants not only give us a sense of responsibility and something living to care for but they actually help us feel happier.<\/p>\n\"plants\n

It’s true! Having greenery at your desk or in your home can reduce stress, boost your mood, and increase productivity, according to NBC News<\/a>. Plants help regulate humidity and reduce carbon dioxide levels (they literally take in what we breathe out and vice versa). They also reduce dust and certain pollutants in the air, all while helping us feel calmer and more connected to nature. Plus, sites like The Sill<\/a> now make it more convenient than ever to shop for easy care houseplants.<\/p>\n

While the Monstera and their instantly recognizable split leaves make for great Insta content, these tropical native plants can actually be a little tedious to care for.\u00a0If you aren’t ready to commit to a high-maintenance plant, allow us to suggest some alternative easy care houseplants.<\/p>\n\"plants\n

Aloe plants look dynamic and dramatic with their spiky leaves but they’re actually relatively low-maintenance in terms of care. They do well in indirect light with a generous soak once a week or biweekly, which means they’ll thrive indoors. Succulents, on the other hand, require bright direct light–but little else.\u00a0 These drought-tolerant babies make great windowsill additions (or desk decor if yours happens to be by a window).<\/p>\n

The vining Pothos produces long, elegant trails that are just as photo-worthy as Monstera. Plus, they can tolerate moderately low-light–which makes them perfect for apartments or dorm rooms–and will do just fine if you maybe sort-of kinda forgot to water them for two weeks (no judgment). On top of being easy to care for, these pretty little plants are super easy to propagate<\/a>, which more-or-less means infinite plant babies. Welcome to the world, little ones!<\/p>\n

If you’re limited on space and can’t commit to a creeping plant, the low-maintenance Sansevieria<\/a> makes a great companion as well. These serpentine stunners are just about the hardiest plant you can find and can forgive quite a bit of neglect. In fact, overwatering tends to be a bigger problem than not watering enough! During the hotter months, you can water\u00a0Sansevieria when the soil throughout your pot feels dry to the touch but limit winter watering to about once a month.<\/p>\n
