Sick of waiting for your man to propose (and wondering why you have to wait at all)? Turns out you\u2019re not the only one. Plenty of women appear to be taking matters into their own ring-free hands and looking for ways to flip the script. According to Pinterest<\/a>, searches for \u201cwomen propose to men ideas\u201d increased 336 percent year over year in 2018, which means the old \u201crules\u201d about (heterosexual) proposals might just be on their way out for good.<\/span><\/p>\n

When you think about it, the idea that you <\/span>have to<\/span><\/i> wait for your partner to take the lead does sound a little outdated. They say \u201cWhen you know, you know,\u201d so why not ask? Think about how many more women keep–or hyphenate–their last names these days. That wasn\u2019t always the case, right? The same can be said of asking for his hand in marriage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t get us wrong, now: if popping the question to your man doesn\u2019t feel right for you, that\u2019s totally cool. The same goes for changing your name. But remember: you <\/span>do <\/span><\/i>have a choice and if you\u2019re thinking of doing the asking, you\u2019re definitely not alone. Heck, Monica proposed to Chandler! So how does a lady actually go about taking the proposal plunge? Since this is a more recent phenomenon, there are no hard and fast rules to go by. You don\u2019t have to ask his mom for permission or get down on bended knee–unless you want to, of course–but you definitely need to do some careful planning. This is a big step, after all! 1. Let the music play.<\/span>\u00a0Take him to see a band he loves, then ask during his favorite song (just be sure he can hear you over the crowd).<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Be a snow angel<\/b>. Live somewhere cold? Go for a winter stroll and write \u201cWill you marry me?\u201d in the snow. (Warm weather alternative: Do the same, but in the sand.)<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Try a throwback.<\/b> Go back to your first date spot or the spot where you first met and ask him there. <\/span>So <\/span><\/i>romantic.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. One word: Food. <\/b>Cook him a special meal or have one catered (no judgment), then spell it out with dessert.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Say it with jewelry. <\/b>Skip the engagement ring for an \u201cengagement thing\u201d like watch or bracelet engraved with \u201cWill you marry me?\u201d on the inside. <\/span><\/p>\n

8. Involve your pet.<\/b> Because how could he ever say no to a <\/span>proposal from your fur child<\/span><\/a>? <\/span><\/p>\n

9. Look up.<\/b> Spell out the proposal with glow-in-the-dark star stickers on your bedroom ceiling and wait for your answer after lights out. <\/span><\/p>\n

10. Get in the game.<\/b> Is he a puzzle fanatic? Have a custom jigsaw puzzle made with your picture and the words “Marry me?” <\/span><\/p>\n

11. Text him.<\/b> Have someone take photos of you with posters that say, “will,” “you,” “marry” and “me?” Then plan to meet your man in a special spot, and text the photos in order (make sure you have good cell service!) before you get there.
