In the case of the latter, however, some of the changes have been delightfully positive, particularly when it comes to the rise of outdoor weddings.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pandemic has forced engaged couples to rethink their priorities, says Samantha Iacia, Associate Editor, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weddingwire.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WeddingWire<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which has led to more laid-back, outdoor celebrations in creative and unexpected venues such as neighborhood parks, restaurant patios, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/blog\/lifestyle\/backyard-wedding-ideas\/\">backyards<\/a>. This trend is here to stay, adds Maddy Sims, Associate Editor for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theknot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Knot<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as couples have started to realize the benefits of having outdoor weddings. We asked Iacia and Sims for some tips for how to plan an outdoor wedding, what to watch out for, and some fun ways to make your special day truly unique and safe for you and your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/2042_2106\/wedding-guest.html?subsite=bridal\">guests<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>1. Remember: Mother Nature doesn\u2019t care about your plans.<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some people claim that rain on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/bridal?subsite=bridal\">wedding<\/a> day is good luck, but who wants to be caught in the rain unprepared? No matter what the forecast says, have a plan B (and maybe a plan C and D too). When planning<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0an outdoor wedding<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sims says the key is to prioritize guest comfort. That means prep for every kind of scenario\u2014clear tents and umbrellas for rain; parasols, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/99_1250\/beauty-wellness.html\">sunscreen<\/a>, and cold water for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/893\/summer-fashion.html\">summer<\/a> heat; blankets, heaters, and warm drinks for colder temps; lights and electricity for when the sun sets. Also give your guests a heads up so they can plan accordingly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iacia echoes the guest comfort sentiment, recommending you also reserve any tents, generators, fans, or heaters in advance so you\u2019re not scrambling to get them at the last minute. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/2042_2106\/wedding-guest.html?subsite=bridal\">Guests<\/a> may not remember what your centerpieces looked like after the wedding is over, but they will remember if they were freezing cold for the entire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/blog\/fashion\/wedding-reception-dresses\/\">reception<\/a>!\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>2. Make sure you have the indoor conveniences even if you\u2019re spending time in the great outdoors.<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are details that you may not even think about when you\u2019re inside but can spell disaster if you don\u2019t account for them when planning an outdoor wedding. For starters: Make sure you have enough bathrooms and garbage cans for all your guests. (Iacia\u2019s pro tip: look into luxury restroom trailers instead of regular porta-potties).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s also the issue of electricity. Sims mentions that couples may have to bring their own generators if the venue doesn\u2019t have power, and they\u2019ll also have to factor in lighting, sound\/audio, heating, and more, which can all tack on additional expenses to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/blog\/lifestyle\/how-to-have-a-wedding-on-a-budget\/\">wedding budget<\/a>. Sims also recommends checking local ordinances, which may have restrictions around types of alcohol allowed or sound\/curfews, depending on the venue or location. Local vendors can also help you navigate logistics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In general, Iacia says the more remote your wedding location is, the more you\u2019ll have to provide. So if your dream is to get married in a quaint barn in the middle of a secluded forest, you\u2019ll have to bring in more equipment than if you were using something like a vineyard with a nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/99_2346\/home-novelty.html\">house<\/a> or facilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>3. Don\u2019t forget to plan for uninvited guests.<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When we say \u201cuninvited guests,\u201d we\u2019re not talking about that crazy distant cousin that showed up out of the blue to crash your wedding. When you\u2019re holding an event outdoors, critters are also a factor. Take advantage of the flexibility of an outdoor wedding.<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Per the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wedinsights.com\/report\/weddingwire-newlywed-report-covid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> WeddingWire Newlywed Report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, some of the top 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/blog\/fashion\/wedding-reception-dresses\/\">reception<\/a> venues included barns and farmhouses. Iacia says such outdoor venues provide perks you may not have with indoor weddings, including ample natural decor and scenery. One bonus is that you\u2019ll be glowing in your wedding photos thanks to all the natural light outside. Sims recommends scheduling a spot in your day-of timeline to capture those gorgeous golden hour photos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outdoor wedding venues also make it easier to socially distance, since we\u2019re still in the middle of a pandemic and need to take into account safety <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/99_5651\/face-masks.html\">precautions<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-nCoV\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CDC<\/a> recommends outdoor gatherings over indoor ones, and the open air may make your guests feel more at ease. Sims says that according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theknotww.com\/press-releases\/tk2020weddinggueststudy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Knot\u2019s 2020 Wedding Guest Study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 50 percent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/blog\/fashion\/floral-wedding-guest-dresses\/\">guests<\/a> who were originally planning to attend a wedding in 2020 said they would be comfortable attending a wedding with about 75 guests if it was held outdoors.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>5. Think outside the box with your venue.<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theknot.com\/content\/outdoor-wedding-venues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> outdoor wedding venues<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, your options are almost endless. Whether you like mountains, forests, lakes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/865_3840\/beach-accessories.html\">beaches<\/a>, vineyards, or deserts\u2014you can likely find something that suits your taste. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iacia says if you don\u2019t want to deal with getting outdoor restrooms and electricity\/generators, you can look for an indoor reception venue that has an adjoining outdoor space for part or all of the celebration. That way, you can get the best of both worlds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other options for venues could be museums or hotels, which can have outdoor spaces or rooftops, parks, summer camp grounds, farms, deserts, boats, or greenhouses (which help eliminate weather unpredictability) says Sims. And if you\u2019re looking for something small and intimate, consider using your own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/blog\/lifestyle\/backyard-wedding-ideas\/\">backyard<\/a>. Sims says many couples used their homes for wedding celebrations and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/blog\/lifestyle\/backyard-small-wedding\/\">minimonies<\/a> as a result of COVID-19, and that backyard weddings will likely stick around post-pandemic since they make for such a unique and personalized experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>6. Get creative with your details and favors.<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though a majority of your decor will be taken care of by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/blog\/lifestyle\/15-best-nature-and-wildlife-instagram-accounts\/\">nature<\/a>, Sims recommends personalizing other aspects of the wedding to celebrate your union. This could include a menu of your favorite foods as a couple, naming tables after favorite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/2442\/the-vacation-shop.html\">travel<\/a> spots or cities, or including your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/2042_6041\/engagement-photo-dresses.html\">engagement<\/a> story inside the program. These little details, says Sims, can help make the wedding feel even more special and customized to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The outdoor venue can also inspire some fun wedding favors.
