While you\u2019re at it, another thing you may want to spring clean is your health, whether that\u2019s maintaining your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/blog\/lifestyle\/daily-habits-change-life\/\">good habits<\/a> or tossing out some bad ones. We talked to a few nutritional experts to get some <em>very<\/em> doable wellness tips&#8211;scroll on for simple things you can do every day to help feel refreshed from the inside out and put some spring into your step!<\/p>\n<h2>Spring Health &amp; Wellness Tips:<\/h2>\n<h4>1. Start your day off with H20.<\/h4>\n<p>The first thing you might want to grab in the morning is a big cup of coffee, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daily-harvest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Harvest&#8217;s<\/a> Nutrition Partner, Amy Shapiro MS, RD, CND, suggests to instead start your day with 10 ounces of water with the juice from half a lemon. We get dehydrated overnight, so she says drinking water first thing in the morning can help rehydrate, support natural detoxification, lubricate joints, provide energy, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/blog\/lifestyle\/immune-boosting-foods\/\">boost immunity<\/a>. Get outside and get moving.<\/h4>\n<p>Fresh air can do wonders for your body and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/845_292\/spring-optimism.html\">mood<\/a>. \u201cAfter a cold winter and more time spent indoors (especially this year) getting outside for fresh air and sunlight truly is one of the best things you can do for your health,\u201d says Shapiro. And don\u2019t feel like you have to do an intense <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/5616\/activewear.html\">workout<\/a>, Shapiro says even a walk can oxygenate your blood and give you a burst of energy any time of day.<\/p>\n<h4>3. Eat foods that can help prevent seasonal allergies.<\/h4>\n<p>Everything <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/859_1350\/floral-print.html\">in bloom<\/a> is great for your IG feed, but all that pollen can be not so great for anyone who finds themselves struggling with allergies through the season. Caroline Margolis, RDN, says there is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/ebiom\/article\/PIIS2352-3964(15)30221-8\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">research<\/a> that shows \u201ca lack of diversity in the gut microbiota may be associated with seasonal allergies, especially compared to the microbiomes of those without allergies.\u201d That means keeping your gut healthy\u2014and eating certain foods to help achieve that\u2014can help combat your constant sniffling and sneezing. She says foods such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/nutrition-research-reviews\/article\/milk-kefir-nutritional-microbiological-and-health-benefits\/1393DC2B8E5F08B0BE7BD58F030D387B\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kefir<\/a> add beneficial live and active probiotics cultures to improve diversity in the guy, which may help allergic response during allergy season (and maybe help cut down your Claritin usage).<\/p>\n<h4>4. Add more fiber to your day.<\/h4>\n<p>Instead of only focusing on what foods to cut out, Megan Roosevelt, RDN, founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthygrocerygirl.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HealthyGroceryGirl.com<\/a> and spokesperson for Purecane, says to think about what you can add to your diet. She suggests eating foods that are naturally rich in fiber, which can help feed your \u201cgood\u201d gut microbes and keep things moving through your digestive tract. And feel free to get creative with how you use them. \u201cFor example, try frozen cauliflower in a smoothie, roasted sweet potatoes added to a salad at lunch, or diced zucchini to your go-to spaghetti sauce at dinner!\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<h4>5. Adopt a sugar-conscious diet.<\/h4>\n<p>A diet high in added sugar may suppress the immune system, hinder gut health, and contribute to weight gain, says Roosevelt. Shop for local produce.<\/h4>\n<p>With a new season comes new produce, and spring fruits and vegetables are light and fresh, says Shapiro. \u201cThey provide new motivation for cooking, inspire new recipes that are often lighter given the season, and are full of water and fiber to provide energy,\u201d she says. Think green asparagus, watermelon radish, and snap peas \u2014 all great vegetables that will add a delicious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/categories\/753\/brights.html\">pop of color<\/a> to your plates.<\/p>\n<h4>7. Switch up your breakfast to match the season.<\/h4>\n<p>Warmer temps are a great excuse to change up your go-to morning meal. While you may reach for a warm bowl of oatmeal or eggs during the winter, spring may call for something lighter, like a smoother or yogurt bowl. Shapiro says she loves the Daily Harvest Cucumber + Greens smoothie or adding fresh berries and local bee pollen to unsweetened Greek yogurt.<\/p>\n<h4>8. Try some new plant-based recipes.<\/h4>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lulus.com\/blog\/lifestyle\/veganuary-plant-based-eating\/\">Plant-based foods<\/a> such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and legumes are packed with vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients,\u201d says Roosevelt. And eating more of them can help your gut health, immunity, and overall health. Shapiro suggests making your own by brewing 3-5 tea bags in five cups of boiling water, letting it cool, and then keeping a pitcher in your fridge. You can drink a refreshing glass over ice or use it as a base for a smoothie.
