Hair How-To: Get Instantly Party-Ready With an Easy Headband Hairstyle

Figuring out holiday party hair that looks festive but isn’t overly complicated can be one of the least fun tasks of the season. Instead of attempting a complex updo or admitting defeat and wearing the same everyday look you always do, get in soiree-mode with an easy headband hairstyle. From our fave hair expert, Erin Ryser, this style is simple to achieve and totally celebration-ready. Stressing over your tresses? Not this season!

This look was actually inspired by Amanda Seyfried’s glam goddess waves from the 2018 Met Gala, a headband hairstyle that we haven’t been able to get out of our minds since. The flowy twists! The gilded headband! The romance! It’s all so holiday-party-hair perfect.

This style also happens to be blissfully uncomplicated (a holiday miracle!): In addition to being one of the most important trends of the season, accessories like clips, pins, and headbands are the ultimate party hair hack. Just brush out your curls, add a shimmery finishing touch–in this case, a gold, tiara-like topper–and voila! You’re ready to get on with the festivities (minus the freakouts!).

Holiday Waves Headband Hairstyle:

1. Spray the hair with medium hold hairspray, brush through, and section to curl.
2. Curl the hair in small sections, twisting before wrapping around the iron.
3. Create a middle part and brush out curls with fingers, smoothing with hairspray as you go (a dry oil hairspray is preferable for this part).
4. Add a party-ready headband!
