How To Do Delicate Dried Flower Nail Art (That’s Perfect for Wedding Season!)

Baby’s breath is not only an incredibly romantic flower (there’s a reason it’s so popular for weddings!) but it can be used to create some seriously romantic-looking nail art looks. So if you’re a bride-to-be, wedding guest (to be), or just in the mood for something pretty and feminine, you’ll want to try these dried flower nails. Feel free to experiment with different flower varieties–Forget-Me-Nots and Ozothamnus are tiny and perfect for nail art, too.

You can dry your own flowers using baby’s breath from a bouquet, or you can buy many varieties of dried blooms from craft stores and even nail art supply stores. You can create this look with both gel polish and regular nail lacquer; just be sure to give your lacquer time to dry and completely cure to avoid any smudges. Dried Flower Nails:

Supplies:

‘Sticky’ base coat (usually these are blue–like Cirque colors “Get Ready”)
Dried mini flowers, like baby’s breath, or tiny petals from other flowers
Tweezers if needed
A glitter polish that has white or gold glitter
Thick glossy top coat like Essie Gel Couture Top Coat

Instructions:

Step 1: Paint clean, filed nails, with one coat of a sticky base coat. If you don’t have a sticky base coat, you can also apply the base coat you have using a thick layer (or two coats).

Step 2: Let dry for about 30 seconds and gently place your small flower or petals on the desired spot on your nail. Gently press the dried flower into the base coat so that the entire flower is stuck to the nail completely. You can also arrange individual petals to form a flower shape.

Step 3: Do steps 1-2 for each finger individually so the base coat does not completely dry while you are adhering the flowers.

Step 4: After each nail has its petals in place, dab a small amount of gold or white glitter around each flower to add decoration to your dried flower design. Let your nails dry for about five minutes.

Step 5: Using a thin layer of top coat, paint each nail and let dry completely. You may have to paint about three coats of top coat before the petals are completely encapsulated and the surface of the nail is smooth. Once you are satisfied with the top coat, you will want to be careful and let your mani dry for about 20 minutes to avoid any smudging or denting. The polish itself will dry but total curing can take a few hours.

Step 6: Once the top coat is completely dry, your flowery nail art look is complete!
