Spring is here, the sun is out, the weather is warmer and the flowers are blooming! It’s the perfect time to lean into happy brights and pastel hues with your style. So channel the freshness of the season with a nail look that can take you from an outdoor picnic to wedding season: French tips with flowers!
By layering delicate flowers with leaves and lavender, you can get a colorful nail design that’s both fun and chic. Ahead, see how to do gorgeous, spring-ready floral nails.
1. Nail prep is always the first step to ensure a clean base for your design and a long-lasting manicure. Take the time to clean up any dry skin from the nail beds and push back the cuticles. Lastly, wipe the nail plate clean of residue and oils so the gel will adhere properly.
2. Apply a thin layer of base coat and cure.
3. Apply 2 coats of the neutral gel polish on each nail and cure.
4. This nail design requires working in layers but is very flexible, depending on the flowers and colors you want to feature on the tips. I like to start with the ‘tallest’ portions of the design, and continue to layer on top, which means starting with the green polish and a leafy design. Draw a squiggly line from the middle of the nail toward the tip.
5. Adding the leaves means simply drawing one curved line, and mirroring the same curved line opposite it so they meet on the top and bottom. Start drawing these leaves at the top of the squiggly line, and continue downwards on either side of the line and cure.
6. Next, draw a small white daisy at the tip of the nail. This is where a shorter, thicker detail brush is handy for drawing the petals. With a thicker brush, you can dip into the white
gel, and then just press the brush onto the nail to create a simple petal. Feel free to refine the shape with a liner brush as needed and then cure.
7. On the left side of the nail you’ll add the ‘lavender.’ To create more depth, I swirled some purple and white so the lavender looked more speckled. Use a small dotting tool to dot on
the design, and taper the dots towards the middle of the nail, then cure.
8. Next, on the right side of the nail, add some dotted flowers in 3 different shades (pink, magenta, and purple). To create these flowers, use the dotting tool to place 5 dots in a
circle–I like to use an initial center dot for placement. Layer each flower slightly on top of one another, curing between each flower.
9. Back on the left side of the nail, replicate the white daisy shape, but with a blue shade. Follow the same steps as the white daisy for the petals and cure.
10. Lastly, using a bright yellow shade and a dotting tool, place a dot of yellow at the center of each flower and cure.
11. Add a gel top coat and cure, then finish with cuticle oil.
