Chrome nails are having a major moment. If you’re a Hailey Bieber fan (or have scrolled through Instagram or TikTok lately), you’ve most likely seen the pearlescent version known as “glazed donut nails.” The yummy trend all but took over this summer. And while Bieber’s first iterations consisted of milky pink and nude polishes frosted in sugary topcoats, this trend can easily carry into the fall season. How? By adding in some chocolate, of course.
Using a classic fall nail color palette of chocolate brown and beige, you can take simple French tips to the next level with a few simple swirls and a chrome glaze. Here’s what you’ll need to create these delicious glazed nails at home:
Step 2: Apply 2-3 thin layers of a sheer neutral polish as the base shade of your look. Make sure to cure each layer.
Step 3: Starting with your brown polish, use your striping brush to map out the French tip. I prefer starting with the sides and then rounding out the middle curve to connect, taking time to make it look symmetrical. You can also use a clean up brush to tidy up your shape and clean up the lines. Make sure to cure before moving on to the next step.
Step 4: Next, we’ll be creating swirly lines with the beige gel polish. Feel free to switch up the swirl and make it your own, but for this look I did two on either side. Starting on the left side of the nail, curve the line up and thicken it slightly. Repeat on the right side, then cure.
Step 5: Using the white polish, trace those beige lines on either side. Follow the shape of the beige swirls and then cure.
Step 6: Top with a no-wipe gel top coat and cure.
Step 7: Using a white chrome powder, pick up a small amount with your sponge applicator (or your applicator of choice), and gently rub onto the nails. Dust away any excess powder on the nails and hand once you’ve achieved that chrome finish.
Step 8: Top again with your top coat and cure.
Step 9: If you have excess chrome powder around your nail, use a lint-free wipe to clean it off the skin. Finish with cuticle oil!
