Hair How-To: Add A Romantic Twist With Our Low Ponytail Tutorial

Sometimes a little extra touch can instantly take a hairstyle from simple to swoon-worthy–and that’s definitely the case with this ponytail tutorial from our hair expert, Erin Ryser. Just add a bit of braided twist here, some face-framing tendrils there, and boom: You’ve got a romantic look that’s several steps up from your basic pony. Since it’s perfect for almost all occasions, including weddings, concerts, or even graduation (Hi, this pony’s low enough to accommodate your grad cap!), we couldn’t think of a better time to show you how to score this style.

Just look how dreamy this ‘do is!  In addition to utilizing our favorite ponytail hack–wrapping hair around the elastic–this tutorial serves up all sorts of volume and texture, giving new life to a classic. And you don’t need to be an expert to achieve this look: Hard not to love, right?

Ponytail Tutorial:

1. Create a rope braid starting about an inch from the face, adding hair as you twist, and secure with a bobby pin.
2. Gather the hair into a low ponytail and secure with an elastic.
3. Pull down face-framing pieces.
4. Pull on the hair at the crown for volume.
5. Tease the ponytail for volume.
6. Wrap a small section of hair around the lower elastic, tying a knot; secure with a bobby pin.
