Varying shades of flaxen tresses have been trending for some time now, but there’s yet another iteration of platinum blonde hair that’s emerged on the beauty scene–and it’s about to let you channel your inner Khaleesi. Yep, Scandinavian blonde hair–or ‘Scandi blonde’ as it’s come to be known–is currently an ‘It’ hair hue.

This bright, white blonde is all of a sudden everywhere, which is only somewhat surprising given how all things Nordic have permeated the collective consciousness, from ‘Scandi style’ to cozy, hygge everything. No matter what’s actually spurred the Scandinavian blonde hair color craze, there’s no denying that this haute hue is currently the most of-the-moment way to lighten up for spring and summer.

1. Remember: Scandinavian = Platinum. This look isn’t necessarily an alternative to platinum blonde hair color but rather, a more amped-up version. According to Brierly, “‘Scandi blonde’ is the ultimate ‘pure’ blonde. Technically this is platinum blonde but keeping it with a clean, fresh look.”

2. Make the color work for you. Don’t feel tied down in your quest for Scandinavian blonde hair. If bright, white blonde doesn’t work well with your complexion, Brierly says you’ve got wiggle room. “Unlike the silvery trend, ‘Scandi blonde’ is adaptable and flattering to so much more than just one skin tone,” she says, “You can customize the color to be more creamy and buttery or on the icier side depending on your preferences. Cooler and fairer skin tones are preferable but can be adapted to a mixture of other tones. Scandi blonde is a range from pure white to cool, buttery blonde which does allow a [wide variety] of people with different skin tones, eye colors, and hair lengths to try the trend.”
