Few beach-ready styles are as versatile as that summer classic, the sarong skirt. First worn in Southeast Asia, the sarong has evolved into a summer staple. One of the things we love about them is that you can wear them in a number of different ways–from a wrap skirt to a dress to using a sarong as a cloak or beach shawl of sorts. Need guidance? Here are six ways to tie a sarong that will really show you just how adaptable the scarf cover-up really is! is!

How To Tie A Sarong

1. The Basic Sarong

This simple sarong style has you gather the ends of the fabric at your waist and tie a simple overhand knot. It couldn’t be any easier!

2. The Waist Wrap

Fold your sarong in half lengthwise and wrap it around your waist. Tuck in the loose end and you’re good to go.

3. The Shoulder Cover

With the sarong unfolded, take one of the narrow ends and hold it at your neck. Bring one corner forward over your shoulder and tie it to the long end of the sarong under your arm, making an armhole. Repeat on the other side. Wear the length of the sarong like a cape.

4. The Neck Wrap

This style is perfect when you need a full cover-up. Fold your sarong around your body with the ends in front. Bring the top ends together behind your neck and tie them for a simple, easy full-body cover.

5. The Split-Front Coverup

To tie your sarong this way, fold the sarong in half around your body with the ends in front. Tie the top ends together at your chest. Then, take the extra length of the ends and bring them behind your neck and tie them securely. Presto! You have extra coverage that still lets you show off your cute swimsuit.

6. The Faux Mini

Holding the sarong vertically in front of you, tie the top ends around your neck. Pick up the length and bring the ends to your waist, creating a pleat at the bottom. Tie the ends around your waist, creating a faux cowl neck mini dress look in the front.
