What to Do This Weekend: Kickin’ It Old School

You made it! Welcome to the end of the week, Lulus love. Looking for something fun to do with your time off? Read on for our picks for what to do this weekend, ranging from total couch potato (you deserve it after the week you had!) to full-on sweat sesh (take care of that body, babe). Let’s kick it!

Watch a classic movie

It’s hotter than hot for most of the U.S., which means going outside is decidedly not on the top of our to-do lists. To beat the heat this weekend, we’re taking our recreational activities indoors and planning an A/C-fueled movie night. Instead of picking the latest summer blockbuster to watch with friends, switch it up and choose an older title for your viewing pleasure. Many classic films have timeless stories that are the basis for tons of current movies–you may find your new favorite movie was released 30 years before you were born! Some picks from around the Lulus office? VertigoJawsSabrina, and The Godfather are beloved classics that run the gamut from action to romance. If you aren’t into these titles or you’ve already seen them all, we’ve curated our list of the top 10 throwback movies to watch with your girls, or there’s a wide selection of vintage movies on Netflix and Amazon perfect for finding something new to you.

Clean your baseboards

We promise this series isn’t going to be an ongoing lecture about the things you should clean more frequently, but in this case, it makes a huge difference! Have you ever looked around a very clean room and still not felt satisfied? That was probably your subconscious telling you to do a quick sweep of your baseboards! This article from Apartment Therapy has an extensive list of the many ways you can go about making your baseboards look shiny and new–find one that fits your usual weekend cleaning routine and go. You’ll feel like domestic goddess once you’re done and you can enjoy a subtle sense of superiority whenever anyone tells you your house just looks so clean. And next week, we swear we won’t suggest wiping down the inside of your refrigerator or doing a deep clean on your grout 😉

Try a kickboxing class

Get out some aggression and get your sweat on at the same time! Kickboxing is an incredible workout to boost your heart rate, tone your muscles, and work on your balance and mobility. Beyond the physical benefits, it is also helpful for managing stress and can even be beneficial for those with anxiety and depression. You can go all out combat mode by trying a Muay Thai class at a martial arts or boxing gym, or you can see if there are any boutique kickboxing studios in your area or cardio kickboxing classes at your regular gym. There are also tons of free kickboxing videos on YouTube so you can get your kicks from the comfort of your own home–just search and start striking.
