Here’s How to Make Easy Christmas Cookies That Will Fly Off the Plate

‘Tis the season for cozy sweaters, sequins, satin, velvet, and cookies–so meet the most festive, simple recipe you’ll make this holiday season. These easy Christmas cookies are thick and soft, with that classic sugar cookie taste–but they have an exciting twist! To level up the yuletide fave, we’re adding crushed Oreos, white chocolate chips, and crushed candy canes to the dough. The result: a recipe worthy of your holiday plates and cookie exchanges, no expert skills required. (Psst–I have it on good authority that this is Santa’s favorite cookie this year. Just saying.)

The dough for these Oreo peppermint cookies is a one-bowl situation that comes together in a flash–and only needs 30 minutes of chill time. If you’re a planner, you can also chill (or freeze) the dough longer, making these a great make-ahead recipe for family baking days or a holiday cookie baking-and-decorating get-together.

A few make-ahead tips: The cookie dough can be scooped into balls, put in an airtight container, and chilled in the fridge for 1-2 days before baking. The balls can also be frozen in an airtight container for 2-3 months. Bake the cookie dough balls from frozen; no need to thaw or adjust the bake time.

Want to dress these up even further and make them look fancy? Drizzle a bit of melted white chocolate on top and add an extra sprinkle of crushed candy cane dust. They’re also perfect as is, though–warm from the oven. A little advice: You should probably make a double batch! These will fly off the plate anywhere you take them.   • Baking these now but there's no instruction for the oven temperature. Going to try 350 but wanted to call it out that it needs to be corrected. Thanks for the yummy idea!

  • As of 12/24/21 there is no baking temperature listed for this recipe?! I searched and searched, did command F to find it and NOTHING. Would love to know how "Ashlyn" baked them. I could not find the recipe on the blog that was referenced either. After some testing, I found that 375 degrees worked for 9 minutes (I had chilled the dough) and these truly are amazing cookies! I've done loads of baking this year and this is the recipe I will repeat next Christmas. I followed the instructions about the chill time on the cookie sheet and then on the rack and found that worked perfectly. However, a 45 gram cookie would be HUGE and would expand way too much. I made mine 30g each and got 3 dozen. Bottom line: bake these and then thank me for the clarifications. Merry Christmas.
